all the dempsey haters today.... yet heres a guy who saw everyone from dempsey thru early tyson & he places dempsey at the top.... he comes off as objective, analytical & honest here. not an emotional attachment to a period gone by.... what it tells you, like tyson, for a short time frame, dempsey was a very special fighter.

You are absolutely right. Ray talks about that performance against Willard. On that day Dempsey was devastating. There had never been a man who fought like that before. On that day Dempsey was truly great. Incidentally Dempsey fought so many fights leading up to the Willard fight in July 2019. In 1918 Dempsey had 21 fights! Imagine that 21 official boxing matches in one year. When Dempsey fought Willard he was a fine tuned fighting machine and he was the classic hungry fighter. I truly understand what Ray Arcel is saying about Dempsey.

@@vantheman1238 he was special. Innovative also. A mix of raw savagery sprung from mining and hobo camps when the west was still mainly lawless… yet also trained in new innovative technique and saavyband hungry to new innovation…. From ‘18-‘23, he was scary and a real threat to any great.

Roberto mentioned in a interview that Fredie Brown trained him not Ray Arcel. Ray Arcel would come by to see Duran during training camps and he would look at Duran and say You're in shape then walked away.

To be fair, Duran was already a complete fighter. He was a natural, pure talent.
