Good evening to you.I can honestly say that I (we) feel your pain. We have had some very similar challenges with our '69 Cutlass W-31 Project. aka. " Mr. Jones" Your efforts and tenacity are to commended. These cars can certainly push a persons ' will that's for sure. You've accepted the challenge and are handling it very well indeed. FYI the cowl tag will tell you if your car originally had a vinyl top. There will be a letter following the two digit color code. We go over some cowl tag break down and decoding in a few of our videos. Lastly, it's great to see your daughters involvement. My daughter and I built a '69 Cutlass convertible for her high school graduation. Some of the best 3 years of my life. Memories of a lifetime!! Keep up the great work. - Steve

It's interesting you mention the cowl tag... I'm actually looking into it right now as we speak! The tag says the car was color 61 / 61 which is Sandalwood, and there are no letters there. This doesn't quite make sense to me because the color I found on the door jambs and cowl is closer to Bittersweet Irid or Kashmir Copper, and I don't think it lists a vynil top. Then again, it could have been added on after it was made?

Great video Bob! Welcome back to the "High Performance Game"! It's hard to believe it has been 19 years! Man, we are getting old! Have you decided on a color yet?

Thanks!! Not yet... we're narrowing it down to a color similar to Summit's Bahama Blue Metallic, or something in the Cranberry/purple range like it was before.

Thank you! I've never replaced a full roof like this, but I have painted at least a half dozen cars in my lifetime, and living in NorthEast Ohio in the "rust belt" we've always had to repair sheet metal on our cars. This was usually things like repairing sections of floors, trunks, quarter panels, and rockers. Honestly, having the basic welding/bodywork skills combined with research of similar projects on KZbin, and access to the correct pre-stamped replacement panels was the key. In some ways replacing a whole panel is easier than sectioning it when the panel gets to a certain threshold of rot.
