With my strat, I thoroughly tried all the boss ODs on my pedalboard, including the waza versions, and the od3 is my favorite regardless of the amp

@CC-fi3pp Жыл бұрын
@Antal Antal Reason it's an even better overdrive with a Tele or LP is because it's not as high or low cut as most overdrives so on a Tele it let's the trebble through and on an LP or SG it let's the bass through (which you can then cut on your amp after rather then have an OD forcibly and oppressively over cut those frequencies).

I got this pedal a few years ago second hand for a steal of $45 in excellent condition. I think it’s supposed to be BD-2 circuit but using mosfet/jfet instead of opamps like traditional boss/Ibanez circuits. I don’t use it anymore because it’s too good, it gives up great tones a bit too easily. I think of it as the original amp in a box pedal that makes any clean rig into a hot rodded Marshall. Which takes all the fun of getting an actual Marshall. You don’t want to believe this pedal will make your clean fender solid state 100 watt combo into a screaming Marshall. But this pedal will, and will do it in spades - it even does the sag when you dig deep into power chords. So I put mine away, I need to fight a little for tone. But if I was a gigging musician and didn’t know what the back line would be night after night. I would bring this pedal

Hey Robert, this is a really cool video. Brian Wampler also did a video about the OD-3, comparing it to two other popular Boss overdrive pedals, and explaining how the circuit is completely different than what you'd find in a SD-1 or Tube Screamer. After doing a ton of research, decided I liked the tone of the OD-3 best. The bottom end is fuller and it has a very rich characteristic in the sound compared to the SD-1 and others. I replaced my beloved Maxon OD808 with the OD-3 and it's staying that way for a while. I'm very happy with the sound I'm getting.

Hey Robert, Lots of thanks on this video man. I just purchased a Hot Rod Deville amp and I’m on my last area of upgrades here.... my pedal board. I probably had the worst selection of pedals known to man haha! I just ordered me a new board w/ power supply bundle and a few Boss Waza’s. I also finally ordered the Boss chromatic tuner and EQ pedal as well. Overdrive had me up in the air however after listening to this I’m definitely going with another Boss 🤙 Thanks again, your descriptions are great and the brief history is always real interesting to know as well!

I've always been more of a pedal guy than amp guy. I just can't tell you how many times a bag of good pedals has saved my bacon at a gig. If I knew a spare amp would be on hand I'd bring a bag of boss pedals, typically an SD-1 or OD-1, DS-1, Chorus, Flange, EQ, Delay, etc. BTW Jake E. Lee used an OD-1 for years. He liked would run them with the leval high and drive low to tighten up the low end of his Marshalls which ran through EV loaded cabs which tended to lack a tight low end. This is perhaps why Mesa Boogie included a mix of EVs and Celestions in their high end 4x12 cabs.

The SD2 is great and is supposed to be based off the Sd1, circuit wise. But it totally sounds different to me. The low gain mode is very open and reminds me of the BD2 at low gain. The other mode sounds a bit thin and is more DS1 than SD1 to me. Still a great pedal tho

After months of playing both pedals i never liked the lack of bass that the sd1 has. I aleay turning back to my beloved od3. Even with single coils or humbucker is better to me. The OD3 isn't a Nobel's ODR1 clone, but it knocked the ODR1 off my wish list. I didn't necessarily need an ODR1, I just wanted a good overdrive with a flatter response than a Tube Screamer. I'm not a country player, but I wanted "that sort of overdrive"... I've seen videos comparing OD1/OD2/SD1/OD3 but I think the OD3 is in particular a hidden gem for people who want something more like an ODR-1 and less like a Tube Screamer. Seriously, pretend that you're on a hunt for something in that range and these don't get mentioned. I'd love to see a shootout with an OD3 and a Nobel's ODR1. That aren't the same thing, but i think they are in the same category.
