I have those Digitech Pedals, along with the Digitech Grunge and Digitech Death Metal. Pretty good pedals, I like them.

I also acquired a Hot Head and immediately booted my DS-1w off my board. The Hot Head doesn’t have that nasally sound Boss pedals are so known for. I would’ve never associated the Bad Monkey with the SD-1. TS-style pedals makes sense to me. Rock on brother!!

"nasal sound" they're "known for"? Not sure about that. Maybe just the DS-1 but not Boss pedals in general.

You collect Boss pedals, but I have been collecting Digitech pedals for a while now. My trophy pedal is the DigiTech Brian May Red Special Pedal, which is holding an overall good selling price so far and still increasing. Just got an almost mint Digitech GNX4 lately, but still have to run it through the mill when I get some time to have fun. Most of the GNX4's currently online are really beat up and for outrageous prices. Be careful if ya buy one cause they list them as "untested", so ya could get a hopeless lemon boat anchor, but at least it will look cool.

Seeing these Digitech pedals scratches a nostalgic itch for me because these and Boss were pretty much all I knew in the beginning when I first started learning to play. I always get a kick out of seeing dudes talk about them. And being a 15 year old kid, I didn't wanna save up for the Boss pedals so I'd go Digitech. Had a Bad Monkey, Grunge, Metal Master, and my friend had a Death Metal (those sound like poop though). Cool little units to look back at. The Bad Monkey to me is solid but I went back and tried one out recently and eh. It's not for me anymore. I mainly use a Blues Driver or an MXR Custom Badass OD.
@dw17843 ай бұрын
I bought the Bad Monkey thanks to Robert's OD comparison video from 2018 or 2019. I love it. I onw the 40th anniversary DS-1 and I own the Boss JHS Angry Driver, so I might not be as influenced to search these ones, which is good because I just picked up a used PRS Custom 24-08 yesterday and don't need to spend more money this week lol

I preferred this Digitech series to the DOD pedals because those damn plastic DOD battery covers always went missing. Got these 3 but still need the Grunge and Death Metal pedals. Always figured the Bad Monkey was meant to be a Tubescreamer clone though.
@RobertWJackson2 ай бұрын
It IS a Tube Screamer clone. But the Boss SD-1 is also a Tube Screamer clone - the first one, actually - and the Tube Screamer itself is a clone of the Boss OD-1. Full circle!!!

I have my bad monkey still listed on eBay for 200 i think. I put it on there to upset people and just forgot about it. I never really intended to sell it. If someone did buy it for 200, I probably still wouldn't part with it. That's the thing about people who collect things they like. It's not about price. I wanted it and the grunge specifically because they remind of better times and friends. But I couldnt pass up the opportunity to troll when Josh made that video after years and years of people telling my how much that pedal sucked, when I could rub it in theri faces. Just a little get back. Becuase most of the people who told me that, they didn't know. Most never even had one, heard one, or been in the same room with one. And I can't make people understand, whether a pedal or sounds, "sucks or not" well, i guess that would depend on the sound you are aiming for. If you aim for a clean tone at some point, a boss ds1 1 sucks. But a compressor might be awesome. In my board, I have like 4 overdrives and four kinds of distortion. Some of them really cheap pedals. And basically I just have them set to different settings. Like the first has a little gain and the second a little more etc. so I don't have adjust Everytime I need a little change. I just use a different drive. And sometimes I stack them. But I would never get rid of my bad money. Wish I had that hothead. I thought it sounded better in that demo you did. Question. Is that ts7 plastic or metal? I'm guessing metal, but they just look plastic. I don't really care as along as a pedal works. Ill rehouse a behringer if I have to. Hahahaha right now I'm working on this old USA made Peavey predator. Aged really nicely. They were cheap but had the nitro paint. Alder body and maple neck. And the tilt neck, which I wouldn't use if I had to tilt the neck. But it has it like USA fender. The hardware was cheap. This one is just a husk. These were 100 dollar brand new in the 90s. They stopped making them at the end of the 90s and people want around 400 for one. I just finished shielding it. And I havr a destroyed strat with expensive hardware I'm gonna put on the Peavey. Cause finding a strat husk is hard. The Peavey is USA made and worth saving. Got the fender locking tuners and electronics. But I have two old grey bottom pickups that I put a more modern reverse phased fender single coil in the middle. None of this matters I guess. I just wanted to talk about it. Hahahaha no one around me knows what I am talking about or would care. So, I guess I'm building a feavey? A pender? Something that st some point in the future people can look at and say, "what idiot did this? Why would someone do this ? Only an idiot would do this". But like most things in like most people don't understand, there is always a reason. Usually necessity. I always try to like and comment when I watch one of your vids. Even when things may look rough man, never give up or stop what you are doing. In the lean times, think of it as setting a chess board up for a future move.

I got rid of my Bad Monkey before the JHS thing so I didn’t make the same killing on it as I did my TS10. It was a good pedal, I just wasn’t using it. I bought it new cause it was cheaper than a TS9. I mostly use my Katana’s now or my Nu-X MG30 into my PA speakers. I do have a pedal board I break out from time to time though.

@OmicronTauKappaClassicDaddy3 ай бұрын
I collect DOD pedals and for the most part I'd say the microswitch rarely is the issue when the pedal doesn't want to respond to the footswitch control. Most of the time the issue is a matter of poor power (low battery, dirty power, ground fault issues, etc.)
