It has been only two month since Gamescom and with what we have seen there, there was no way we would see some huge new things on CitizenCon. Still what they did with Planets in those two months in spectacular.

I think it's actually starting to really fill out, esp when you compare the fidelity here to what they have in game now. The next patch brings Orizon, and Citizencon will bring Pyro and maybe Nyx, by this time next year this game will have enough elements to keep everyone plenty busy until finished. Fire, Cloud tech, Gas Tech, Capital Ships, Docking, Reputation, Medical and Salvage, Mining, Bounty Hunting, Components, these are serious breakthroughs either already in play or just around the corner, so they actually have met their promises. If you want to stomp your feet and pout, fine. But that's the thing with an open sandbox universe sim, if it was easy someone else would've done it by now, and we would be talking about that game instead. And once it is released, it will define the next generation of games, nothing even comes close.

Why? They just have PCs like everyone else. You can clearly see though, that the ships and vehicles change that 100 fps into 60 pretty quickly. So: What you get in the current game is pretty much already stuff, that is causing the lowest fps. So, if you are fine soon in AC or in the current alphas, you will be okay for the game as well. And again: Noone serious would say, that they should built for nowadays PCs.....New tech is coming, new APIs are there, etc....Why built a ugly game for ugly nowadays hardware, if you can stress them hard now and the new hardware will run fine. I mean: We are still years away from real polished release.....so

It's a shame that much of the media seem to not appreciate what you guys have managed to accomplish. I've looked at several articles that ONLY talk about the delay of SQ42 and that's all they talk about. Nothing else? Which makes me think "Have these people actually watched this demo? Did they fall asleep halfway through?" That gameplay footage I watched in complete silence in awe of learning that yes the demo was in real-time, yes it was in-game and yes everything you see you can go to (the space stations rings turning in the sky was a particularly favourite part for me). To be honest, I don't care that squadron 42 is delayed, if the game came out in 2020 but you guys kept bringing out more and more alpha releases and eventually beta releases I'd be happy. As Chris Roberts said himself "Let's do it right." Spectrum and the mobi-glass technology, procedural planets, vision stabilisation, no skyboxes, 64-bit positioning, the new ships/multi-crew that allow you to move around while the ship is also moving and everything else? Most of those things have probably been considered to costly or hard to implement before CIG showed they could make them work. They've just made several innovative technologies a reality, in one game, in 4 years. Other developers should see this demo as a kick up the ass to actually release working games, that don't require large patches to fix game breaking bugs. When 3.0 comes out i'm sure most of the haters are going to quit with their whining. Then again, haters gonna hate. Rant over, i'm going back to fly my Gladius with the interstellar soundtrack playing in the background. See you in the verse!

@sashatherrien70018 жыл бұрын
I see this argument everywhere, do you know how long it takes an established studio to build a AAA game? A AAA-MMO is even longer. MMO's usually take between 5-8 years to make, we are just wrapping up year 4 with SC. Not only that but they spent the clear majority of the first 2-3 years just building out the studios and the teams. Building a studio and getting us to where we are now in 4-5 years is amazing. The issue is that SC was known from day 1, most studios will hide their stuff before showing it in almost beta form. Assassin's Creed Brother hood, spent 2 years in the "Bunker" at Ubisoft before any of us saw a demo and had been in production for almost 3 before anyone saw in-game footage If you want facts, I would encourage you to go to the RSI website, they put out between 4-5 hours of content every week (anything from mechanics to lore).

i really really hope this games becomes true its my dream game ever since i was a kid i dreamed a game like this and now its happening and from what i've seen in these gameplay demos and other stuff (Around the verse , 10 for the chairmen etc) its becoming a reality. i still haven't backed the game as i had a really bad preordering experiance with AC : unity but its not really preordering its just backing the game. I want to visit this planet and make friends with Worms.
@kovenmaitreya71848 жыл бұрын
I understand. I choose to play when they release massive content (like Arc-Corp and the PU when each was released) but I only play for a little bit of time to try things out and see how its coming along. After getting my feet wet, I put it back on the backburner and focus on other things for a while again. The things I'm seeing with this game is absolutely mind-blowing though.

I second this notion. Truth be told, while I watch the videos, I haven't played since 2.3 or so. I don't want to risk getting burnt out, just like C0T0HA, but I also don't want to constantly tweak my Voice Attack profile before the controls are more or less ironed out.

Noone like Chris and other "non-stupid" people ever want to get in contact with Elon Musk. He is an investor and just doing stuff for fun. And you treat him like a god. Others buy soccer clubs, etc. So, he has fun....but he is just an investor, who did a homerun earlier and now doesnt know, where to put money. Please: Would be awesome to not hear about Elon Musk. Chris Roberts wouldnt be that dumb to get in contact with a man, that is less intelligent than an average. :) He doesnt need to get in contact with those douches. @EvidenceFragmentary8 жыл бұрын
Pushing the boundaries. I would certainly say so. When I signed up years ago, I bet on a 2018-2020 release tbh. With what they want to do and the limits they are pushing... I couldn't see it taking anywhere near the normal length of a AAA title. I bet on about twice that length and so far it's on schedule (for me personally). I am impressed by these demos. I watch a shit ton of video game trailers and demos and presentations, of engines and systems and mechanics and art design etc.... And nobody ever makes my jaw drop like SC. Sure I get excited for Battlefield and other new titles, but this genuinely makes me catch flies with a wtf look on my face as they challenge what I think I know about video game design. Kudos to CIG. Kudos to Chris Roberts for having the balls to do what they are doing knowing that they will receive a HUGE amount of skepticism and criticism, warranted or not. Generally, when you do something that hasn't been done before, there are major issues and setbacks with unforeseen consequences.. There will be skeptics and naysayers and people with valid concerns (myself included). But I admire the vision and that's what I signed up for. I like people who say fuck it and push their own agenda in a direction that has never been attempted. You've already given me my $ worth simply by bending the CryEngine to your will and impressing me on a technical level. Keep at er boys. Push your dream. See you all in the verse :)

We already know, that this is realistic. So, what is the deal. Most new IP on such a scale would take 8 years minimum to develop. If they do it in 8-10 years, they are fast. And I am okay with it...so are 99% of the community, who backed money and said: Take whatever time it takes!

I think it will, at least partially. The ground textures, for example, is way better that the one they show at gamescon (that didn't really hold up to the standard of the manual assets of the game). So I don't see why they would use that version of terrain generation instead this much better one (now if this mean the entire package like dynamic weather I don't know, probably what is "ready" at the time).

@avidian8888 жыл бұрын
It's just jealousy and craziness. Because a lot of people were dreaming about making and playing a game like this and CIG is the first to make it possible, even without the big corporate developers and publishers. That's unheard of in our capitalistic driven society and people just rather hate on something, than try to change their thought patterns and behaviors. It's the same with environment activists, vegans and other great things/people, which get so much undeserved hate.
@Bigl1230x8 жыл бұрын
I think it's because the kickstarter campaign started back in 2011, I believe and the game still isn't out by 2016. The vision of the game seems like it will be the GREATEST game ever to exist, even if you are not a SyFy fan. I think what many people have an issue with is the fact they speak so highly of a game that is not even close to being finished. His vision is too vast for what he is capable of doing. Even when we see videos, yes it looks like the most amazing thing since sliced bread????... hmmm. but we won't get our hands on that for another, what 1,2 or 3 years. @Arvid Don't think many people care about what you are speaking about. People just want the game, just stop speaking about it, showing progress, giving details... Just wait until the game is finished and do the traditional advertising campaign. Think it's just that simple.
@alexharry90098 жыл бұрын
Lavell Hill Maybe it's because the devs are being so open with it's development and people are upset its so slow. But the same people who are upset are so incredibly uninformed on how long a game takes to make. Especially one of this size with such lofty goals.
@wileywilson8 жыл бұрын
Nor me Alex. It looks incredible.
@avidian8888 жыл бұрын
Okay, I can tell, that you´ve never worked for a gaming company or have any idea how long game development usually takes. First off, this is "open development", that means, I and other backers WANT to hear about the development a lot (AS THEY PROGRESS) and they even just put the money from the dedicated subscribers (which is NOT mandatory) into this videos and not the actual funding for the game. The talking about it, won´t effect the development in any bad way or make the developers take longer, it´s the other way around. Because they´ve shown us so much of the game, we could give our feedback and help them making a better game. 60% of what we already have, was never intended back in 2012 (where the campaign started, not 2011) Secondly, It is already better than most other games. There´s no other game with this level of fidelity, where you can walk out of your spaceship and fight an FPS battle inside a space station with other people and that´s just the Alpha... Sp people who follow the development know already, how much progress CIG has made and they´ve done their research, so they know about the development time of other comparable game (even planetside games like GTA-V took over 7 years). MMOs usually need between 7 and 10 years and they won´t do a AAA-singleplayer campaign at the same time. So you mean 4 years for a building a huge company of 363 people from 12 at the beginning and having this level ground-breaking graphics and story-line and community engagement is taking too long?! That´s laughable at best. x'D

wow, everything about that demo was incredible. My only concern is with the nature of the missions. I doubt that massive ship fallen in the desert was a one time asset. So am I going to keep running in a similar scenario all the time on other worlds? Same ship, same worm and sandstorm that trigger at the same time? Or is all of this crafted for this specific planet? This would be too good to be true. Another question about the nature of missions, are they a one-time thing? Or can you keep taking on the same mission multiple times, going through the same exact environment with the same exact environmental cues?

Cloud Strife I was specifically talking about missions you get from NPCs. They are obviously going to lead to designated, designed spots, not random places across procedurally generated world. My question, then, is how similar these mission areas will be to one another? I understand this specific mission was part of the single player portion of the game, but my question still applies to the multiplayer component. It would be awesome if they could individually design each and every planet to be different and have different enough missions that it stays fresh. As I understand it there are/will be close to 1000 planets in the game though, in which case there's only so much you can do to differentiate them.

GibsonGaming Whether single or multiplayer, they're missions nonetheless. My question is equally valid. What are we to expect from multiplayer missions? How similar will they be among them in setting and objectives? They obviously won't all be unique.

The will use handcrafted pieces of narrative strung together by procedural events and player choice so that they hopefully appear as full of variety. So its a mix of unique parts and math magic. I think they will try to cram as many settings and objectives as possible in these half procedural systems. Combined with the rich ecosystem of economy and war and pirates and stuff it could get quite rich. You have to take into consideration that there will be many roles to play, many professions. Even if you play the "same" mission twice, alone the time difference of day and night and the people participating could have drastic effects on the mission, so there is no same mission actually. It all depends on how deep they want to go with this tech and how much unique parts they want to create. Knowing CIG and their level of quality it will take a while, but will be worth it.

You know, with all of the negative press around this game, it's been really discouraging. I've pledged to SC because it looked like a dream game, and after NMS I was even more afraid that I had sunk money into a crowdfunded SC for which I'd never see the original concept realized. What I've seen here looks truly impressive. Don't let us down, Mr. Roberts. If you do, then you'll have killed both the space genre and trust in crowdfunding forever.

I think he's already revived the space genre. Just look at how many space games have come out, even COD is a space game now. I'm not really sure if this game can fail at this point. they are already past the hardest parts of development. They also share a crazy amount with the community, and take so much feedback. It can't end up as everyone's perfect game, but I just don't see them "failing" at this point unless something really crazy happens.

They are basically too big to fail at this point. My concerns are more about the nature and quality of the final product than about if there will be a final product.
