You really undersold the latest update-- draggable wedges, physics improvements, and netcode fixes are INSANELY valuable to those who are still playing the game
@mus_xr4653Ай бұрын
Those updates should have been released in 2022. I really want to play this game but the infrequent updates keep me from getting the game. Now I only watch scrapman and kan waiting for the developers to release chapter two
@ThatDarkSquidАй бұрын
"undersold"....right... Draggable wedges - all wedges were already achievable before the update. Physics improvements - only improvement is you can put a lot of tiny loose parts. Other than that countless creations were broken because they changed part collisions and weakened the joints. Moreover these physics changes don't only apply to "Smart" physics (which, other than the part I mentioned before, only dynamically changes the physics level depending on creation requirements -> means you could already achieve the same result before update by lowering physics) but also to the others so you cant even escape the creation-breaking changes. Netcode fixes - there are no noticeable ones. Astonishingly it is worse than before: constant player desync which was much better before the update. Believe me, (at the very least for the technical side of SM), this update is virtually nothing but a stepback and people are calling for a rework in the next update. It is quite obvious that this update was just a way for them to just delay chapter 2 yet again and still have the "promised update of 2024". (this by no means should stop people from playing the game or anything of the sort, I know i will keep on playing. It is just such a shame to see how they completely disregard everything that was made before the updates by changing physics and other unnecessary things like hitboxes... same thing happened with survival update.) ok thats a chunky reply.... probaly should be a comment instead....

@@EsodillaIt’s been a really long time since the last major update, it may not be all to easy to find something fun to do, but it’s still fully up to your creativity as to what to create. The shear amount of stuff that is possible with the system already in place is obscene for a game that technically hasn’t even gone through a full release. I don’t expect anyone to stick by the game for all this time without any big updates, but ya can’t think that there isn’t still stuff to do, it has more streamlined possibilities than Minecraft for what’s possible in game, and look at the amount of stuff that just keeps coming from technical Minecraft! @@Atomizer_E it’s extremely narrow minded to attribute the whole scrap mechanic modding scene and a major part of the community living to just one person. the game has always had a large community of modders so i’m not sure where you got that part from. sure, no one really made survival mods other than him, but that’s because they weren’t officially supported for a long time and because they’re very hard to make well(in fact i believe fant mod is actually extremely bloated and in fact isn’t made too well, despite all of its original content.) i also dont think the “leaps” he made were extremely substantial, and what on earth do you mean he made sm a Massive Multiplayer Online game, MMO? Unless I missed it, you left out the detail that, per Axolot, the game has been in development since 2011. It might have gone early access in 2016, but they'd already been working on it for 5 years at that point. Giving us a total of around 14 years of development for a game that is still early access, and hasn't even had a "chapter two" that they've been teasing for around 7 years. Axolot has their players figured out. The players rate the game highly, because they enjoy the small amount of content they have. Other new players buy it, based on those reviews. Then they only have to release an "update" every few years, and that keeps the gullible players still hooked, and generating positive reviews. There's plenty of businesses in the "real world" that have delayed product release, or just never released their advertised goods. And those companies get lawsuits, criminal charges, etc. But Axolot avoids all this by just going "Oh, it's early access" and that frees them of all wrong doing. 🙄

no matter what anyone says or their opinions on anything, the complete lack of transparency is by far the most detrimental action of axolot. it is quite simple really to just show off some stuff they’ve been working on currently in a random tweet, and if there’s nothing new, they can give us further context an updates on old teasers that we still know nothing about. the bottom line of everything is that everything would be far better if they cared enough to talk at all.

This. It takes a whopping all of 1-2 minutes to think up a sentence or two for a tweet, or FB post, or anything else, and to post it. Even if they're working 200 hour weeks, which they clearly aren't, there's still 1-2 minutes to say "hi".

Also i think using different images for "exiciment" (Ninja 20x in the video) or "axolotl" would improve the video, for example the first time you talk about "Axolotl" you show the logo of the company and after that every time you mention it you show different pictures of real axolotls, and again chill with the pop sound. I appreciate you putting this information together. I don't know if Scrap Mechanic's story is much of a cautionary tale for devs though--didn't they sell a lot of copies and make a ton of money, thus making it so they could take as much time as they wanted, or just call it quits if they wanted to? It's more of a cautionary tale for gamers, or at least a reminder of the agreement between devs and gamers, being that they owe us nothing, other than the current state of the product, if we buy it in early access. I have over 3,000 hours with the game, so I'm find with the $20 I spent on it. One of the negative Steam reviews shown in the video had about 4 hours spent on it. You can barely scratch the surface in that time. I'm not defending Axolot's lack of communication and broken promises--that frustrates me--I just like to keep things in perspective.
@rabidlawnmowers15 күн бұрын
If you want to put it in perspective, then actually do so. There are PLENTY of games that are less than $20, also created by indie developers, that have gone to full release in a fraction of the time that Scrap Mechanic has been lingering, without the problems and lack of communication from their developers. There are games that are $5-10, of similar crafting, world exploration type ideas, that are far more stable, fully released, etc. If they don't know how to develop a game, hire people that do. If they don't know how to communicate with players, hire someone to handle PR. But there's absolutely no reason to defend a company that has mad millions from sales, and somehow can't muster more than 1-2 communications per year. I agree that you agree to the "current state" of the game when you buy into early access. But that also just provides a copout for developers. This game has been in development since 2011. Is it really okay for them to keep taking everyone's $20, and they can just brush off complaints with "oh, well, it's early access, we don't actually have to give you more"? "early access" is a BS escape, too. In any other product, failure to produce product on time is a breach of contract. With penalties. But in the gaming world, you can let stuff linger as long as you want, and gamers just have to suck it up. Even if they complain, oh well. You already made your money off all the chumps who bought in.
