My mum was born in the 40s so she lived through a lot of wild trends. One of the things she told me was to never overpluck my eyebrows, and considering she was a natural blonde with no eyebrow hairs left to speak of after a lifetime of plucking, I obey. Though that woman could draw on a beautiful set of identical eyebrows like no other in no time whatsoever. Damn I miss her.

Yep, my mum plucked hers in the 90s and they're still the same skinny, hair-scarce shape they were then. She felt very comforted when I pointed out how many other women had the same type of brows from doing the same.

I have a coworker who is in her late 40s. She did the skinny brow thing from the mid 90s through the early to mid 00s. Now she has pretty much no eyebrows. She's tried different brow products to enhance what she has, but now she's going through menopause and she just sweats any brow products right off. She's looking into getting brow tattoos now.

I have very thick brows (like Roberts). After being ridiculed for them in the 90s, I decided to carve them out by carefully shaving the edges instead of waxing/plucking and then using concealer to cover the bluish tint. I also used heavy gel to pinch them together into a thin shape. Guess what? I still have my full, bushy brows.

That's not the case for everyone. I plucked mine thin in the early 80's. Kept them like that for almost 20 years. When I decided to let them grow back they did. Right back to what they looked like before my 1st pluck. I tried threading once. Didn't like how they looked. I let them grow back again which they did. 15 yrs later/older and I now have 2 sparse areas but they're not that noticeable to where I have to use anything to fill them in if I don't want to... 🤷‍♀️

Wise. My face came with Brooke Shields eyebrows and luckily my mom complimented me regularly and told me to embrace them. I generally rock a full, shaped brow. Stick with what works (easy for me to say, I have good brows). Also all my 90s girls are SUPER SAD they plucked out their brows.

I got microblading last year after a lack of makeup during the height of ye olde plague was a nonstop reminder of how much I hated having no arch naturally. I'm so happy with my naturally full looking softly arched brows now since what I naturally had and would fill in myself with makeup seemed to be my perfect setup. A really nice brow shape does so much for your confidence honestly.

@@CherrrrBear little secret darling. The liquid rogaine. You can use that on your eyebrows. It works really good. My mom taught me that. Years ago. My step dad was using it for his hair. And my mom would take a little spooly and just brush it all over her eyebrows. And if she lost her little spoolie she would use a little baby toothbrush. She just apply it on and leave it. She would use a Chapstick, or a little bit of CarMax or a little bit of Vaseline and just go around her eyebrow in the bottom part. Just so it's not running down. But then again you're using so little it's not really going to run but just in case. She would just swipe it right over the top of her eye brow bone underneath the brow. Worked like a charm. I never really got into those thin brows. Although I have completely lost my unibrow. I'm okay I don't want to grow that back. I'm good. But truly it worked really well. My mom has blonde fine hair. And God bless her she always had troubles with her eyebrows. I'll also say this stress also made her lose her hair. Omega fatty acids. And cholesterol. I would start making her eggs with salmon. She laughed at me. It was the bushiest eyebrows and most beautiful hair she ever had. No laughing matter it really works. Fish eggs are awesome. If you can eat them. Please find wild caught fish eggs. Ancestral supplements has them. Costco is the only place that I know of that sells a wild-caught fish oil. Absolutely awesome. I use them I use them on my dogs. But seriously try it out. It works really good. My mom even made jokes like hey we can grow your unibrow back. I was like get out of here. 😓😬🙊🙉🙈

My grandmother who was born in 1918 warned me like crazy about plucking my eye brows when this was a thing in the 90s. She had virtually no brows from going through a plucking trend when she was young. I listened to her thankfully and never did more than a small amount of plucking. She's been gone for 20 years now and would be warning my daughter about plucking her brows if she was still with us. So listen to your moms and aunties and your future brows will thank you! And I'll be the warning auntie on behalf of my grandmother, DON'T OVER PLUCK!

As someone with sensitive, acne prone skin, I LOVE powder foundation. But back in the day they made you look so dry and flat. I'm so glad companies are making powder foundations that also have some hydrating ingredients so your skin doesn't look dry. I had skinny brows in the 2000s. Thankfully I never was into plucking, so I used a eyebrow razor and my natural brows all grew back. So if you really want to try it, don't pluck - use a razor.

I’m so sorry! I would NEVER do that to a bride, communication and consent is everything. That’s one reason trials aren’t so important, if they want glitter I will only do it in stages. I complete the look without sparkle and take pictures, then add shimmer or sparkle and do photos again. It’s great to see how it will look on the day, they often decline even when they came in asking for it. I have a super fine shimmer powder I use on flower girls shoulders, they love it! Moms and girls often argue about makeup at young ages, but allowing them a few subtle products keeps mom and young lady both happy.😊

Robert I had my brows tattooed 4 years ago & I absolutely LOVE them. They're tattooed within my natural brow shape & thickness. Robert you naturally have dark, thick brows that don't need to be tattooed imo... I have sparse, matchy, dirty blonde brows that I have to tint constantly and draw in. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to wash my makeup off and have my brows still be there.

I'm the same as Ash, I got my brows microbladed in 2018, and it was the best thing I ever did. Yeah they are lighter than they where back then, and I could POSSIBLY go get them redone and done a bit darker, but I'm not rushing out the door for it - It gives me a little more flexibility - use darker products to give a bit more texture and depth or just use a clear brow gel.. well worth it

Most men don't find the thick brow trend attractive it a biological predisposition bc facial hair growth including brows is influenced by testosterone levels, there are other genetic factors. The funny thing is, I was in college in the 90s and getting married and having babies in the 2000s - and I was so clueless about makeup and trends. I was a total nerd blasting through college and career and whatever - if you asked me what trends were popular in the 90s I’d say grunge (not that I wore grunge 😂). I was mainline preppy nerd allllll the way. But show me a photo if early Avril or Britney and it all comes back. I looked awkward enough in my flannel shirt over a turtleneck all tucked into jeans with a belt. I didn’t even need wacky, whimsical glittery white eye shadow to look goofy 😂

I had a bad brow waxing experience in the early 2000's and lost the outer ½ of one of my already thin brows. I tweezed out the other side to "make them even" and drew in full on Cruella DeVille brows for ages while they grew back in. I swore i was the absolute coolest thing walking at the time!

The dream matte mouse foundation was my favorite when I was 17 and in high shcool (I'm talking over 10 years ago) it does bring back memories. I also really liked the Maybeline loose foundation powder which was a rip-off of bare minerals when that brand was very popular in the beginning. It's amazing how much your skin changes and what use to work perfectly for you no longer does. I tried wearing the Maybeline powder just before they discontinued it and it accentuated every line and dry spot on my face. The way that foundation looked on me in high school was nothing like how it looked on me several years later.

Unpopular opinion: Powder foundation looks gorgeus on super oily people if the skin is well prepped, the powder is not thick and the amount + application technique/tool are the right ones. When it settles, it blends with the natural oil and doesn' t look Marie Antoinette at all. Also, touching up is easier than a matte fluid foundation. 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤

Unpopular opinion on brows: Thick, fluffy brows are not universally flattering. I think brows should be made to compliment a person's bone structure instead of trying to follow a trend. I have thin brows because I would look too masculine with thicker brows. On some people, thicker brows look amazing. I am not one of those people.

Yes!! Thank you!! I went through my preteen and teen years with thick dark eyebrows on a pale face. Oh and they grew in the middle quite a bit. I always hated them and got made fun of because of them. People always said I needed to thin them but I saw girls in my grade who plucked the shit out of theirs and it just didn't fit and plucking looked so painful. So I've never done anything with them except for plucking between my brow. Now everyone has the exact same thick, super dark brows Groucho Marx would be envious of. I think you can thicken/fill in your brows a bit but it should be in a way that fits your face. If you have naturally thin eyebrows, rock them!!

@@LadyJessicaWilliams You are 2/2 today! I couldn't agree more. I have another personal example. I have a short, round, wide-ish nose. A true button that I love now but growing up I hated. I got told I looked like I had a pig snout and I felt like I looked like Christina Ricci in Penelope. It took me a VERY VERY long time to like my nose but I love it now which is why I refuse to contour it. I don't have a skinny nose and it wouldn't fit my face to try to turn my nose into something it isn't. There is nothing wrong with contouring because when I have a double chin, contour is my BFF. I just think we should try to embrace our own nose and eyebrow shapes, whether they're thin or wide, on trend or not. Trends come and go but the face that you look at in the mirror should be one you love every day, no matter what year or season 💜

Probably the best makeup advice I ever received was to find my style- what looks best for my face and to ignore the rest. It’s fine to experiment and play but don’t make potentially permanent changes based on fickle fashion. That fashion doesn’t have to live with those permanent changes you do.

For real! I have a face that is really poorly suited to the makeup trends of the past 6-8 years. The popular heavily contoured makeup and the bold drag inspired eye looks just don't look right on my face. It's only in the past year that I've started really looking at my face and doing my makeup to enhance what I have instead of copying what influencers and KZbinrs do. The difference is really stark and I feel a lot more myself. Trends tend to only look good on a particular face shape (often achieved thru surgery) and following them doesn't really teach you how to work on other faces. Plus the trendy face will change over the years.

As a fellow 90s brow trender (the first time around) I too had not much left - after months and months of research I found a good microblade practitioner and haven't looked back - I absolutely love them and wish I'd done it sooner. it's the best! definitely worth really inspecting their work - do they do a variety of skin tones, does their style align with yours, do they shape the brows for each individual and is the pigment a good match. oh and do they share video of the work, not just pics. so on following trends that are permanently damaging / aren't for you? 100 percent agree - don't pluck/thread/wax for a trend; you will regret it!

I've always loved that dream matte mousse foundation. It's been a go to since it came out. Use a large brush and buff it into the skin and it's so freaking good for lightweight coverage. I've got a lot of redness and this is one of the few foundations that gives me great coverage without feeling heavy.

I was a teen in the late 90s and early 2000s and remember those ultra thin brows all too well. had a few friends who basically had plucked themselves beyond repair and they still have to draw on their brows. never properly grew back. I completely skipped that trend cause I just didn't like the idea of changing the look of my face by haphazardly plucking my brows at home (a salon i couldn't afford). Then low and behold more than 5 years ago, Benefit came up with some brow pen product and the advertisement line "Pouff!! Brows suddenly appear!" and me, still primed by the thin brow trend, I was flabbergasted. Who wants that? In the beginning, though it was more about making brows appear more youthful and dense. That I kind of could wrap my head around. I also sometimes have little gaps in my brows. So to be able to draw them in and even the shape out a bit, cool, cool. But over the last years thanks to the Kardashian clan it went a bit overboard for my taste, with brows looking so drawn and clear cut, that you may as well paste a brow sticker on top of your original brows. Or I guess I'm just getting too old and close-minded at this point. I don't know. But just like my generation tended to look like eternally surprised Mickey Mouses, the last block-eye-brow trend to me made everyone look a bit samey like fresh out of the muppet show. Ah, well, it's all fine I guess. Every generation needs their trends to set themselves apart and have fun with their look. And what would any wedding, school reunion or family party be without being able to look back at our old styles in pics and laugh about ourselves?

I'm 34 and in 2015 when that trend came about I was in my mid 20s snd it want for me either. They were drawing their eyebrows in blocks ans outlining them with concealer, during the day, for school. Thay is drag style makeup and should be left to those professionals and lighting situations.

Honestly, I'm convinced this is one of those situations where, like, three people have made the switch to thin brows and blasted "OMG SKINNY BROWS ARE BACK!???" all over the place, and media outlets and tiktok just ran with it. @@ginkel23 yeah I’m the same early 30’s. I would say try gently pluck whilst holding the skin firm. A good threading tech will ask you to hold your skin firm whilst they thread. The less trauma around the eye area the better. I will say though every 6 weeks is possibly ok, I have some ladies that come every 2 weeks wanting a fresh wax, and I’d say maybe just let me tidy them with the tweezers instead. It totally depends on your skin type and your brow thickness. Myself- I have super dry, thin skin and thin brows, so I can afford to wait. I know this is different for those with oily skin who’s brows grow super thick- which is a blessing as far as I’m concerned but can be a curse too. But definitely the less trauma around the eye area the better and waxing is a real trauma- especially if the tech isn’t taking the skin type into account. No fault of their own- it wasn’t something that was taught on my course it’s just an observation over the years. I hope that makes sense xx

As someone in my early 50s I remember the whole disco glitter so well, glitter gel, glitter hair spray, Leichner did glitter everything in a glitter version and dam I wanted them all. I’ve got very blonde brows that I over plucked (early 80s) as you say, they DO NOT grow back. I think removing the outer edge is ageing too, womens brows naturally get shorter with age. I absolutely love the one colour cool-toned eyeshadow look from the early 2000s, like pale lilac. I’ve been hating the warm-toned extremely sculpted cut crease that everyone has been doing for the last ten years.

Warm eyeshadow makes me look off at best, and incredibly ill at worst, and hooded eyes hide even the boldest wing, so I'm fully guilty of preferring a simple single shadow taupe look. I never considered the fact it might even look outdated 😂

I don't like the red/orange/yellow shadows at all. I have blue eyes and light skin and those colors look awful on me. It's only fairly recently that I decided some shades of brown were ok. So, I'm hoping for the pretty cool tones to dominate for several years now.

I loved the Maybelline mousse concealer, and I lost my shut when it was discontinued. you couldn’t use the foundation to double up as concealer. it was its own magical thing.

I love glitter, but you are exactly right as to why you have to be careful where, how, and when you use it. It's also why I personally tend to things like glitter over liner, using tones that vibe well with skin as accents, etc. It can go really wrong really fast.

I recently went back to powder foundation and I’m glad I did! Its a quick fix and it also covers my rosacea.Not as well as regular foundation or concealer though,but it does look better sitting on my oily skin a few hours after

I’m so unfashionable 🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤣 I’ve always had reasonably thin brows. I do pluck mine and cut them a bit. So, I’m kind of glad this is coming back as Ive never managed to like the huge brow look of the last few years… I also love a bit of glitter 😕😂

The mousse was part of my routine for a long time. Its great for people who dont want liquid, but want more coverage than powder. Great for oily skin needing coverage.

Eye socket 😉 My babysitter, who I kept seeing when I was beyond in my nappies, grew up in the sixties and warned me not to pluck my brows. I'm still thankfull I listen to her advice since my brows aren't very full to begin with.

Ask me about over plucking! I was a teenager in the 90s and let me tell you, they do not come back no matter what. My mom told me to stop, that I would regret it, but I was like pfft what do you know? This is how we wear them now....& Now I rarely even wear makeup except my brows... I have to do them. I've gotten amazing at it, they look very natural, but it's very time consuming to get them the way I do. I use a minimum of 4 pencils and a clear gel to hold them in place & prevent smudging.

That frosted blue is absolutely stunning paired with the deep blue on your beautiful brown eyes! Your eye makeup is AMAZING! I love the blue and white combo. Also, I recently gave in and bought the Sigma eye primer…I have never used eye primer before….omg it is a game changer!
