I find it easier to hit the blade with the flint when using a knife to get a spark. Charcloth on the edge of a log, knife tip resting on it to hold it, and strike down the spine with the flint. Much safer and more reliable.👍

You mentioned that RWL blanks are much more expensive than O1. How much? What is the relative cost for O1, 52100, RWL, CPM-3V, and Magnacut?
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Жыл бұрын
Easy to find out just go on a knifemaking store site, cpm and RWL Aldo cost more to HT . Magnacut is roughly 5x more expensive than 01.

Why is the spine dropping?
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Жыл бұрын
The large clip drops the centre line of the blade , thinning the tip and making a more gradual curve, this makes for a far better carving tool.

Rob I am lucky enough to have a book signed by Mors via one of his studies Jon McCarthur , Mors Inspired me to get outdoors when I was around 10 seeing a show he did here in Canada called " On the Road Again" where a fella travels and meets interesting people,Really love the design of this knife And when I can swing it I'll definitely be contacting you / subbing for sale updates ....Atb...Spook

Very nice pair of videos and a lovely knife. Thanks for demonstrating the chopstick/tongs - I'll introduce that idea to my PLs and APLs at summer camp. I'm still using my Rob Evans Bushtool and it's still getting admiring comments from Scouts from all over the world. I would very much like to have an option to buy one of these new knives when they become available: I'll put a new piggy bank to one side to start saving now.

Nothing harmful in Ash, its just very open grained, so for kitchen stuff, things get into the grain and go rancid. Same reasons its a poor wood for an outdoor construction material. Rots quickly, bad around moisture.

Great video! The more I see that MK2 the more I like it. Your timing on this video is excellent. I just got home from an overnight camp, put away my gear and sat to watch this video. As soon as you mention forgetting to wipe it down after breakfast I thought "OH CRAP" checked my knife and sure enough just a few spots of rust starting.... Thanks for inadvertently saving my blade!😂

My theory is that harder steel will produce smaller sparks when striking a flint. That is why it works better with a dedicated fire striking steel.

This was treated by a different guy than usual. That's probably why it hardly sparked.

Flint and Steel and Ferro rods ideally you want to stick with a dedicated striker. My preference anyway. Was there enough Carbon Content in the Blade Rob? People Say you need a high carbon steel striker for Flint and Steel. I am no expert. Interested in your thoughts brother.😊👍🌏🌏🌏🌿🌿🌿🥝🥝🥝🔪🔪🔪🪨🪨🪨💥💥💥💥😳
