It's a solution for a non existing problem imho,that said, great to see you review a tool on a honest and serious way to give it a change, great content mate, thanks again 👍🏻

Straight up honest review Rob. Don't think I'll be buying one, I'll just cut my own wedge's when I need them.

Hi Rob,great first impressions and use videos. I get the idea that the wedgie is part of the Pathfinder ultralight series of equipment aimed at who want to lighten their load for longer distance travels. It would seem to fit that niche pretty well if you know its limitations.Best wishes and thanks Demus.

Hi Rob☺ a fair test you gave it, for a fixed camp whith transport to get you there that would tempt us to take all sorts of superfluous nick nacks to play whith, and I put this in that catorgary, as you say , a saw, a small axe or hatchet, and a suitable knife is all you realy need, I think it was in Nessmuk ' s , or Kepharts stories, that an Indian said, ( Indian make small fire, keep warm, white man make big fire, keep warm fetching wood) , there's some logic in that I think. Thanks for the video mate, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.

Good review and demo, it is a neat looking thing but totally agree with you - hatchet is just more useful, especially since you need a knife and saw anyway. Enjoyed the bloopers!

Great woodsman skills as always sir! Good, review and demonstration. I see the Wedgie as a light tool that conserves your hatchet and it sure looked like it did a better job splitting. Put it up against your GB on twice as big of a log and youll like that wedgie more I bet.... You can also use both together to split a log down the line. Of course you can make wooden ones if need be. You all can laugh, I like mine, I still use my scandie CPM3V GNS, a silky 170 and a Big Boy 2000, and my wildlife hatchet. The wedgie though pounds through KNOTTY PINE like a champ. In the long run you may end up saving some $$ conserving the life of your other tools by using that wedgie. But yes the price of it in Europe is too high for sure.

With a knife you can also cut wedges if you need to split wood that way.... I don't see any use for the woodsman wedgie other than levelling up a table in camp if the ground is really hard.....👍👍

I bet it would work well in the applications you used it for the other day if you had more than one but that isn’t practical just for wood splitting for firewood.shelter building may be a different kettle of fish

Interesting video Rob. Especially showing comparative performance of 3 tools. IMO, that is the same as other prefabricated wedgies. Fine small tool, but redundant.

Wedgie... Hmm... When you spell it Wedgie, my butt cheeks are clinching. I don't know why... Well, let's face it, when do we buy shit that is absolutely necessary. Sure we do but most of the time we do it because we want to. Or just to have it. To feel good. Penis extention. Compensation. Whatever they call it, just own it and have piece, oh, no, peace with it. Good one, Rob. Go Evans!

I've never seen anyone make better feather sticks than you. Yours are a work of art! Also, can you make a beginners guide for bow drilling? I'm struggling with this method. I get smoke and black dust but never a coal... Thanks!

There's far better guys than me out there doing friction fire lighting. Wood selection and pressure are the two biggest factors with failure.

"Well built by me obviously" Spot on there Rob. I can see the point of the wedge but really it's just "Another thing" to carry. The big question with all of ones gear is would I buy it or not. Can the weight space cost be justified over its use.

Rob have you ever done a review on the Mora Wood splitter (like a mini spoke-shave) i wonder if it would be any good for making the handle section of the mallet where you were using the wedge. Lol always thought a woodsmans wedgie was when he got his underpants stuck in cheddar gorge. Nice review.

Great video! Looks like that wedgie is fun to play with, axe and knife are hard to beat though.
@dexterne3 жыл бұрын
What if it was an actual axe head (with a sharp bit) with that threaded eye? Could make your own handle onsite. The bearing block feature is an interesting idea, but I think you are right that it would have to be bigger. Is the point of the thing that you can take it on a plane without checking it? Maybe it's supposed to be a tool for an ultra lightweight bug out bag (that will probably never be used)?? Still I agree that I'd rather have a good knife, saw or axe than that thing, and if I'm heading out on purpose, I'm taking all three.

Rob, question: Could you have placed a piece of wood on the point of the knife and cleaned the baton handle almost like a draw knife? Also liked the idea of leaving the final cut for the baton until after you'd shaped the handle. Enjoyed this vid. Atb Malcolm 🏴
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
Yes mate the draw knife idea would work, however I've tried this in the past but the stick handle never stays in one place, soon as pressure is applied it moves, not something you will see me do on a short blade .
