I would say anyone should be able to get a fire going in just about any conditions with those matches, I really like adding the fat wood splits, that should help extend the burn time. All really cool hacks. Everyone should put together a good fire kit, but even more importantly get out and use it. Be safe, have fun and get good at making fires in different conditions using different materials and methods. Including myself.😅

You’ve got me thinking! I’ve seen the tape covered matches before, adding the Fatwood splinter is a novel idea. To be viable they have to be easy and quick to produce. I think I’ve come up with the perfect solution, been playing about with an idea. I will post a video with my take on the tape covered match, it’s definitely different, I’ve never seen it done.

Great little idea, I'll be stealing that. If you want some strike anywhere matches Rob I've got some knocking about somewhere.

I also make my own survival matches. I wrap the match with cotton twine(leaving the head out) and then I soak it in wax. If I want to add an extra, before wrapping it, soak the match in wax and sprinkle it with magnesium shaving, then wrap and soak again!

I’m just waiting for some materials I’ve ordered and I’ve got some top quality matches coming off Etsy. I’ve made a jig to make these matches, I should be able to churn them out 100’s at a time. The time consuming part is the tape, I think I have overcome that problem.

Canadian Amazon has Diamond Strike Anywhere matches and some others. I've never had such matches but now might be the time to buy, eh?
@RobEvansWoodsman2 ай бұрын
I know they won't ship overseas and Diamond strike anywhere are not very good.
@RenThraysk2 ай бұрын
Yeah, in the US too, have both Kitchen and Penny strike anywhere. Were banned in the EU in 2018, though now we've left unlikely to get them unbanned.

If you use your idea and tape a "Can't blow it out" birthday candle to the waterproof safety match, it's going to burn and wind can't blow it out. Peace Ps A piece of metal oxide sandpaper won't be affected by wet like a striker pad.
@RobEvansWoodsman2 ай бұрын
I tried magnesium ribbon but it takes too long to light.
@rhettoracle96792 ай бұрын
@@RobEvansWoodsman Just thought of an option that I need to try, make scrapings from a cheap magnesium bar onto the duct tape before wrapping around match bundle. Hmmm
@allensterk61902 ай бұрын
would you like some strike anywhere matches they still sell here in the US I have several boxes at all times
@RobEvansWoodsman2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the offer but they would probably get confiscated by customs as you can't ship them overseas.

Wondering on soaking the match stick in oil (aka diy fatwood), whether it'd ruin the match head or not.
@RobEvansWoodsman2 ай бұрын
Good idea, could put some potassium nitrate in the oil!

@@RobEvansWoodsman Ah yes, the old birthday trick candle.

Another idea, is put a piece of beeswax coated hemp wick in it. Both as fuel, and so can take a spark in a pinch.

I don't understand why people like Gorilla tape at all. Its fabric is too thick and strong for the glue - it will peel away at the ends more easily than cheapo tape. Dollar store tape that's thinner and stickier wrapped twice as many times, is way better for my modeling projects..and less expensive.
