Hi Rob, I'm still enjoying my TM! Just to mention about the handle. My hands are obviously smaller than yours because the fit is exactly right! Cheers mate!

Good stuff again Rob....you certainly made the Trailmaster talk 👍 the wet’n’dry sharpening system is just about my favourite. Look forward to the next one 👍

Nice proper use, basically felling, bucking, splitting and feather sticking with the same tool. Truely is coming close to a small hatchet aswell. But can also be used better as self defense than a hatchet. I like your techniques 👍

Cheap method is wet and dry paper on a mouse pad or you can use stones with a circular motion or buy a ken Onion electric sharpener with grinder attachment but that is expensive. Check out my sharpening playlist, should be something on there.

I’ve had a Trailmaster for more than a decade and I still love it as a chopper. I use it around the yard trimming trees more than any other tool I have.

I have an exact replica of the First blood knife, it's not great to use , tip looks to fragile, blade is too light to chop, handle is too round so when you do chop it just turns in the hand, I really can't fault the Trailmaster apart from the handle is a little slim for me.

Its a good display knife. But no its not a good knife, definitely wouldn't want to use it for any kind of chopping, skinning, really anything other than putting it on a shelf. Why wouldn't you buy a real knife, if you where going to spend that kind of money? Thats absolutely madness. You could have actually bought 2 actually good knives, for the price of that one dollar store knock off.

Only just found this video! That Coldsteel looks a bit of a monster. Not a fan of big knives , a BK7 and a Condor Matt Graham are my limit.. I like to feel I'M in control Not the knife. P.S. I dont bother making feathersticks anymore, I just make firestarters from makeup pads soaked in camellia oil and beeswax. Will light Anything!! But I do admire your skills. Will keep looking for more hidden jewels 👍👍

Excellent video good sir! For those concerned about controlling such a huge knife, I suggest you look.into a traditional Nepalese khukuri or an old school Cold Steel Ghurkha Khukuri. That's big. Its like my friend ReallybigMonkey1" here on YT says, guy sitting there bleeding says "Well I didn't mean to do it!" I know, but did you mean NOT to do it. 😂😂 Stop. Slow down. Breathe, Observe, plan and think "What if..." . I've used the Carbon V (as in Carbon 5) CSTM since 1987. Never been cut. Bled myself accidentally many a time with a damn SAK Fieldmaster...But...but...its SMALL? YES...so I wasn't paying attention as I should have😁

Good advice, going like an idiot with a large blade is a recipe for disaster.
@tikkidaddy

I have CP and walk on crutches. So I REALLY pay close attention to how a larger tool fits into my limitations. If I get tired, I stop a minute. Its not a race, and we are not trying to prove we are Superman. I cannot safely use a large ax, so khukuri fits very well. But hey WATCH your body parts guys. That blade is curved. You're chopping some log and your kneecap gets in the wrong place, your going like a house on fire , you can lose that kneecap. There are no sissy sticks. There are SMART STIX

One more question Rob, I apologize... Could you show your method for sharpening and honing a CSTM on bench stones (DMT, Spyderco) whatever? I don't use water stones because I don't want a big tub of water full of grit and have to flatten the things etc. Look down in that tub you'd think you could play "The Call of KTHULHU " and the Great Old One would rise and steal your CSTM😂

I used to sharpen big knives with a convex on my DMT stones with a rocking motion but now I have a ken onion gadget with the grinder attachment and it's sooo easy! As for non convex bevels I use the DMT stones.
