Epic Penny Box Hunt - 3 Old Pennies Added to the Album!

After several hunts with low amounts of Wheaties we managed to get another wheat penny harvest with this box! I still am stuck on my record of 23 wheat pennies in a box but anytime I can get 22 Wheaties and 9 of them being pre-'30's I will take it! Oh yeah - I was able to add 3 OLD Pennies I did not have in my album - 1911 D, 1921 S, 1922 D! Yes - I found a 1922 D Penny in this box! Keep hunting and good luck! Rob. Amazing box! Had to be a partial collection dump. Some of these coins are almost unheard of for circulation finds. I bet some of the other boxes rolled before and after this one were loaded too. Also, that 48-D does NOT have wear, that's just a weak strike. It's a beauty with all that luster! For those rare dates is looks like someone probably popped them out of an old whitman album and cashed them in. LOL. I guarantee there were other semi-key dates dumped too.

Great hunt, lots of oldies! I buy unsearched wheat pennies in bulk from my LCS and I've found a handful of key dates. 3 1914d's 2 1909S's many 1922 weak D's and a 1922 no D also a 1931S . Only wheat I havent found is a 1909 S VDB but I'm certainly trying haha

Wow, that many old wheats in one box. Of all of those dates pulled, the 1927 D is the only one I have also pulled. It was an ender with the obverse side showing. Great hunt Rob!!

My oldest AU find in circulation is a 1933 Philly. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I did find it about 45 years ago but still, it was exceedingly rare to find an AU of that age even back then.

I heard there's an error involving a 1922 penny. They only made 1922-D pennies that year, but there's an error where there's no "D" mintmark on the 1922 penny. That's hard to find, but it does sell for about $40-$70.

His 22D has a weak D mint mark. The dies got worn so much that at least one die stopped creating the D mark altogether. That is the "1922 Plain" that you see in the coin books.
