I've been a U.S. coin enthusiast since I was seven (back when wheat pennies could still be found in ones change). Nice to see the number of hobbiests returning to where they were then! I was casually looking at related utube vids on coins yesterday, and decided to subscribe to the one coin site I found interesting. Again today, casually watching coin vids and found only one I wanted to subscribe to...and it was you! Again! Just like yesterday, the only one I found any interest in subbing to. I like that you reply to those who leave a comment. I don't do much collecting anymore, but the knowledge and history happily remain. Keep collecting!

It's nice that you have old coins in the US. Here in the UK, the coins are mostly new, with nothing older than 1971. That was when the UK decimalised, and many of the old coins were withdrawn. Those US nickels have a lovely silver sheen to them. Thanks for the video.

Now enhanced with brilliant gold-plating, it features a modern close-up portrait on the obverse and a burly American Bison pawing the turf on the reverse. The gold plated ("gold washed" is probably more appropriate) is almost certainly from one of the "private" mints around, trying to create collector value with stuff that ultimately really isn't worth anything OR, is a similar fashion, one of the late night shopping channels with the screaming idiots trying to create the same. They've done this quite a bit with state quarters, and all that came after the state quarters....plated a ton in gold, and also did plenty in platinum. Hell, even the U.S. Mint can't really seem to come out with stuff that ends up with any decent value, barring the precious metal stuff. To top it off, the quality began sliding down hill in the 2000s. I stopped buying mint sets at the end of the state quarter program. BTW, to clarify for your viewers that are not numismatists, the "silver" war nickels are 35% silver, 9% manganese, and 56% copper. You're one of the best roll hunters I've seen on YT, Rob....I'll be poking through your site for more. Having the scope on hand is excellent.

Yeah it's gold plated. Not really worth more than a nickel but it's still pretty cool. When I find them I give em to my little buddy. He just turned 12 so I'm trying to get him interested in coins. He doesn't get excited when I find a doubled die. I'll magnify it and show him on the laptop what I found and explain how it's doubled like what class it is and how to identify it with die markers and stuff. He just goes "oh yeah I can see it" and goes right back to looking at his phone. I'm like geesh, not easily impressed are ya buddy? I guess ya think everyone can just find a $100 or $1,000 coin every time they feel like it? If I could just manifest a car out of thin air would that entertain you? Haha he's a good kid though. But kids do seem to find things like the gold nickels and mint errors pretty interesting.
