In this farewell
There's no blood, there's no alibi
'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth of a thousand lies
So let mercy come and wash away
What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done
Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands of uncertainty
So let mercy come and wash away
What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done
For what I've done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving
What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done
What I've done
(Na-na, na, na, na-na, na, na)
(Na-na, na, na, na-na, na, na)
Forgiving what I've done
(Na-na, na, na, na-na, na, na)
(Na-na, na, na, na-na, na)

If The Batman gets sequel, I really hope the plot take some inspiration from this episode, specially the flashbacks. Since the first film was about Bruce growing from dark vigilante driven by vengence to symbol of hope, one good way to continue this story would be introducing Robin, showing Bruce bonding with Dick and becoming a father figure to the kid, finding a friend (besides Alfred) to trust with his secret .

I’ve heard plenty of people defend it. It just feels wrong though. His sidekicks have always been his family, and for one moment he ignores that familiar relationship to do that with her. It feels like a betrayal of everything he has worked so hard to build, and a betrayal of the trust Gordon gives him. Then they don’t even show how destructive that choice could have been, they just brush it off like it’s meaningless fan fiction. It’s bizarre.

This. THIS right here is why I think Robin/Dick Grayson as a character is so important to the Batman mythos and why it irks me when he’s left out sometimes like he doesn’t exist in certain incarnation’s. In so many symbolic way’s Dick IS Bruce. They’ve shared the same traumatic experience’s and have both felt anger and vengeance towards their parents murderer, but found that justice over vengeance is the true way in their own form. And that although Bruce was emotionally absent which was his major flaw as a parental figure, he still did all he can to make Dick better than him despite being the same by giving him a new home and family while Bruce was alone and only had Alfred to turn to when his parents died. In a way he truly is his son and why I personally think he’s the definitive candidate to become the next Batman when Bruce either croak’s or retires the cowl.

I love Robin, yet I've always had an unexplained feeling that Bruce letting a kid fight with him doesn't make sense... I do love Bruce being an absent parent, that does love Dick yet has to go on missions at night without Dick knowing why, and so he feels a bit of guilt, and gradually opens up and becomes a better parent as well as person. That puts the entire Batman myth into a mew interesting perspective of Dick introducing love into Bruce's life, instead of the usual "love interest". Dick: Does the hurt ever go away? Bruce: I wish I could say yes. But it will get better in time, for YOU. That I promise. - Why do I bring this up? Because Implicitly Pretentious has a pretentious habit of excluding it. I wonder why.. - Well, let's see. In this very moment Bruce makes a promise to Dick, one that he aims to keep. He wants to bring Zucko to justice so that Dick doesn't suffer the same fate that he does, not being able to find justice for the murder of his parents. Bruce has always been seeking the man who killed his parents, he has dwelled on this his entire life. This desire to find justice for the murder of his parents isn't only his strength, but his weakness. He doesn't want Dick to dwell on Zucko, to seek him out and take vengeance upon him rather than justice, he wasn't just scared of Zucko taking him from him (as selfish as this sounds), he's worried about Zucko pushing him over the line, because in Batman's eyes, that would be "taking him from him". Dick is someone who Batman views as pure of heart, Dick murdering the man who killed his parents in an act of vengeance is in a lot of ways Batman's worst fear in that moment, I think Batman would be more horrified by the thought because he would see himself in Dick, because Batman knows that if he ever caught Joe Chill he'd be on the edge, and whether or not he'd go over is a toss of a coin. - Reality is that Bruce was right in the end. It did get better for Dick, in a lot of ways, he's the better Bat"MAN", but not the best BATMAN.

I suppose in a thematic sense, Robin was also the beginning of forcing Batman to work with others rather than have others work around him. It was the beginning of Batman learning to be a part of a family again. That though he always had his father alfred, now he would have brothers, sisters, sons and daughters as part of the superhero community in due time too. And Dick was the first to begin that recontextualizing.

Anyone that says they want to be Batman really doesn't understand his character. He is a dark, tragic, and just very sad man. He never healed from his trauma, but fortunately he was able to help someone else through theirs. Dick Grayson is someone worth aspiring to be, he went through the worst pain and tragedy but learned to bounce back and still see the good in life. As Robin, he trained with the best and learned all the skills to be on par with the legendary Batman. He's proven this several times over. But he still has the heart and character that all of us should strive towards. Bruce even once said that Dick is the embodiment of what Batman should be

One of my favorite takes on Batman is that he's using "Robin" to keep Dick from becoming as angry and bitter as Bruce himself is. So when he says "I thought he might take you, too", he may not just mean "your life" but "your soul" if Dick were indeed to attempt to kill Zuko.

Fun fact: This is the first example of an animation doing the Akira motorcycle slide as homage to the movie, Akira.

It's the greatest Robin story EVER told. In any media. This is THE Robin origin story. Even Dick as a kid saving the hooker from her pimp is *chef's kiss perfection. Also, just do the Barbara and Bruce video already. There is so much meat on the bone there. Especially with the dynamic of their relationship in Beyond that would have never been repaired if it wasn't for Terry.

This episode is still remains one of my favorites and this was the one that gave Batman the animated series the first Emmy win Dick Grayson was such a fascinating character seeing later on in the DC animated movie universe they did him super dirty especially in justice league dark apocalypse War but at least the live action Titans show he's the main character and the central focus and they did him Justice and the actor that's playing him I forgot his he's really good as Dick Grayson easy the best life action version of him today sorry Burt Ward and Chris O'Donnell I've already forgot his name but he is so awesome as Dick Grayson on the Titans TV show

I think the whole "Bruce is Dick's dad" thing is overplayed. There's a reason Bruce never officially adopted Dick (until he was a grown man, symbolically). Bruce respected John and Mary Grayson too much to presume the role of Dick's father. Plus, in most versions, Bruce is only like 10 to 15 years older than Dick. Not quite old enough to be his father.

Thing is that is the relationship they have like it or not. Even if it's not part of the animated series, Teen Titans Robin basically confirms this with his line "I already have a father" to slade

Where Bruce embraced his loss as batman, Dick overcame his loss as Robin and then later Nightwing. That's why batman thinks of him as his greatest success, because Dick accomplished what Bruce failed to do.
