Yeah the WG isnt necessarily moustache twirling evil, think more "British empire" perhaps. They want to control and own, not so much destroy - though that doesnt mean they wont on occasion.

Aokiji's real name is Kuzan. Calling him "Ao-kiji" or "blue pheasant" is like calling Luffy "Straw Hat" or calling Shanks "Red Hair". Each of the marine admirals has one of these names "color-animal". That's why he's not called "Aokiji" in the flashback, as he only gains that name once he gets promoted from vice-admiral to admiral.

The backstory is always painful for me, but all the characters find this new source of motivation. It's like the second level of what Nami said back on Enies Lobby - when they know it's OK to save her, their strength will know no bounds. Back in Alabasta we see her great disappointment at it not being the true history, and even the king is shocked that she lied about its reference to an ancient weapon. She's been trying to learn the history this whole time but not only is it elusive but it's also the cause of the biggest threat to her life. She gave up in Alabasta, but Luffy forced her to carry on, and she joined the crew to survive that but still was an outsider. She knew what the full weight of the government as an enemy was like, and was keeping her distance with all the crew. Think about how she's been addressing them - Mr. Swordsman, Ms. Navigator, Captain. Everything she could to limit their attachment to her, all for that inevitable day that she would need to abandon them. She admired from a distance, but now she's opened herself to them and can truly be herself.

Fun fact: Saul is *not* a first. You've already seen John Giant in a brief scene in the Loguetown arc, when Luffy got his first bounty. This marks him as not only the first giant Marine in the series, but also the first giant, period. Although the scale of the background doesn't make it immediately clear that he's a giant, so it's easy to miss if you didn't know to look.

I know the scene you're talking about. He's in the foreground so can be mistaken for perspective. Plus the scale in One Piece is whack on the best of days. Easy to miss.

They didn't do that in the anime But in the manga there are title cards To present new characters Aokiji title card Is "vice admiral Kuzan later known as admiral Aokiji" Aokiji means blue pheasant it's an epithet Also for the one who destroyed the ship "vice admiral Sakazuki later known as admiral Akainu" Akainu means red dog A lot of people who only watch one piece missed this info

Seeing how utterly terrible Nico Robin's life has been from the beginning, it's honestly a miracle that she neither snapped and became the monster she was accused of being, nor did she decide to end it all before now. It speaks to how strong her mind and spirit truly are. And of course she believes the Straw Hats will eventually betray her or leave her; how could it be any different? For the entirety of Robin's life, everyone in her life leaves her, abuses her, or betrays her. She has no reason to believe things will be any different now, and more than that, she's terrified of hoping it could be different this time, for fear of having her heart well and truly broken. Fortunately for her, the Straw Hats truly are different. Props to the crew, and especially Usopp, for their reactions when Luffy ordered the World Government flag to be shot down. No hesitation from Usopp, no protests from the rest of the crew; just grim determination and resolve. Nico Robin is a Straw Hat, and if keeping her on the crew means declaring war on the entire world for the sake of a single person, then the entire damn world can just bring it on.
