It's kind of hard to believe that there was a time when the world did not know Robin Williams. Did being a newcomer to the limelight stop Robin from trying to get one over on the censors? Did it f**k!

Ninja isn't really offensive, he's just controversial. Also when you think about it, fact fiend isn't small but it's not big in any sense. So yeah it's safe to say that things people find offensive are usually pretty much grounded. Robin Williams definitely wouldn't have the success he had if he had to gain it in today's climate, not without more work anyways.

I don't think the first night at the museum film was bad at all, and it was super popular at the time. It even got a not so great xbox game. However, I never saw the sequels so It could very well be one of those cases where those ended up dragging down the series popularity in the long term.

Actually, it's a plot point in Flubber that he doesn't remember how he made Weebo. I mean, the movie was a remake of a movie called 'The Absent-Minded Professor', a major facet of Williams's character in Flubber was that he often couldn't remember things and that's one of the big reasons why he made Weebo. Weebo actually recreated the schematics of her own design so that he could create another one at the end of the movie, because otherwise, he didn't know how. That said, he probably didn't sell those schematics because he didn't trust other people with it. Flubber is already an insanely dangerous product for humanity to have.

The character of Mork appeared in Happy Days starting with season 5, which was 1977-1978. The Mork & Mindy spin-off started in 1978. E.T. came out in 1982. So the story about the producer's kid loving E.T. is false. Unless Mork went back in time. He could do that, right?

I knew he had a crude sense of humor and I knew he had a talented “potty mouth”. But I had no clue he was intentionally hiding curse words. I speak Spanish and Russian fluently. And I swear now I’m going to look out for that next time. Because I recall watching “Robots” and Fender (by Robin williams) does this bit a few times where he casually ventriloquists his hands to say things as if they’re sentient. And they have the Mork voice. And I remember telling my mom when I was a kid “he’s saying, ‘who’s your daddy’, in Spanish” then later. “he’s saying, ‘fuck your mother’, in Spanish again”. She thought the “who’s your daddy” one sounded a LITTLE similar, but refused to think it was saying anything vulgar in Spanish because, “They wouldnt let that in a kids film”.

In Flubber, they specifically address the reason why he can't make more robots; she is deliberately hiding from him the code that gave her sentience. There's a scene where he's sat lamenting that he didn't know what he did "wrong", and later in the film when she's been mortally wounded she shows him the code after all so he can build her 'daughter'.

I mis-read the title in the thumbnail and thought it said that Robbie Williams (the singer) had to be censored in 4 languages. To be fair, there's an argument for the censorship of Robbie Williams in 7,016 languages (the number of living languages which experts mostly agree are currently spoken in the world), but I guess this makes mores sense.

11:39 "Why don't you sell the technology used for (the A.I.)" IIRC, they actually DID explain that Robin's character had programmed and built that A.I. in a fugue state, and legitimately didn't remember how he did it, nor had he written it down. He didn't try analyzing her construction or programming because doing so might endanger her.

(Yes I know I'm 2 years late on the coversation) Robin's character couldn't sell Weebo's technology without selling her, the one working example, because her consciousness was an accident. That's explained in the movie she she's damaged and "dying" that her can't save her because he doesn't know how she works. Her daughter, on the other hand, the intructions Weebo left him to build a new one, THAT could have been sold. That generated a new consciousness, and it worked perfectly. The only question is would it generate a unique consciousness every time.

I'm still convinced that the little flying robot from Flubber came up with the conception of GIFs

It's a huge deal when he builds a flying car but the flying robot in his house is just standard fare I guess.

Gary Marshall, the creator of Happy Days proposed it. ET didn't come out until long after Happy Days stopped production.

Perhaps the danger of that robot in Flubber is exactly why he doesn't sell it.

(Regarding Flubber) I vaguely recall that he doesn't remember how to make the robot again, so it's a one-off. It informs his character-he's so absent-minded, he can create a revolutionary hovering, general intelligence robot, and then not be able to do it again to save his life.

Man, he got so much through in the show. I know Spanish, and a tiny bit of Russian, and he cursed so goddamned much in that show. It was a great part of my youth.

I have multiple favourite moments from Robin Williams but the one that often comes to mind is the story about his wife farting in her sleep from Good Will Hunting. A completely off the cuff line that was never meant to be in the film but it is an absolute ray of sunshine in an otherwise fairly dark and serious film.

His alcoholism, some of his life stories and how it words them, and how he kept talking about wanting to be free surrounded by dogs in that video it was very worrying. Hopefully this series does not abruptly end one day because...
