I haven't read the manga in a while, but i don't remember the male main character acting goofy as a joke very much. I think this anime is trying to inject it's own comedy. From what I remember, he was pretty sauve when he needed to be, pretty chill normally, and occasionally goofy when it came to anime. The manga felt more romance and drama focused. This anime has a more generic anime rom-com tone. Also, the reason the two of them ordering the small lunch was interesting for their friends is because the meal was supposed to be super spicy. Idk why the anime left that part out. The scene doesn't make any sense without the dish being a unique dish that most ppl don't eat. The childhood friend is also very clingy in the manga, iirc.
