You know, I usually just draw and listen to what's going on in the video as I'm working on commissions, but MAN. When you bring in my man Morgan Freeman(MY GOD) I just could not tear away at how stunning you made him look(that and the fact I love that 1000 year old man lol). I love how your instructions weren't confusing and you even made me to stop doing digital for a while and work with some traditional mediums, there's just something so pleasing and satisfactory about painting that just gets me. Beautiful work, I'm sorry for gushing can't wait to see more!

Papaya Khan well in art probably cuz if you can paint the deepest skin tone with adjusted shadows n transitions you can get everything in between. also most people can find a lot of techniques n tutorials of white/light skintones so between the two you should be able to do them all.

I recently got some water soluble oils because you don't need any of the harsh chemicals of normal oils - but I find it so hard to apply the paint thinly and evenly for detail:( I would be so grateful if you could give me some tips for doing detailed paintings with oils! I really want to improve at realism.

the cool thing about water soluble oils is that you can mix them with pretty much anything, i.e. water, oil mediums (like linseed oil or alkyds) any acrylic mediums, traditional oils, acrylics, etc., so you can do a lot of different things. plain old water will thin the paints just fine for details + decrease drying time (and a smaller sized brush will help lol). Camilla D'Errico is a world famous artist who creates stunning work with water soluble oils.

Simstastic is right! You would be looking specifically for what is called an acrylic retarder. It commonly comes in a tallish plastic bottle with a thin tip to squeeze the medium out of. It's kind of like a watery gel, transparent, and blends easily with acrylic paint. For how much paint she uses in this demo, I would say squeeze out maybe a dime-sized amount and a clean palette knife to mix into each color separately- or just as you go. :P Use about 1/3 to twice that amount if you want it to dry much slower. Don't use too much or you'll tint the color, or make it too watery (which is fine if you want to do that specifically). Happy mixing!

That was actually really helpful, despite the fact that I don't paint faces, I think it's gonna help me with my colored pencil portraits! ♥

This was SO HELPFUL! Haha I had no idea I could use primary colors for skin tones!! Thank you!! I only paint for fun, so I don’t know too much. This was really easy to understand and totally blew my mind! Great work!! The paintings turned out great!!

I really appreciate this video. Its so hard to find painting videos that help with minority skin tones. I also love the reminder that the palate is virtually the same-pinks, reds, blues, etc go into both skin tones, one just happens to be lighter.

AWESOME! Never thought of using both acrylic and oil together! It’s been quite a while for me having oil and acrylic paint, so today I thought of buying either. I had a hard time choosing between the two, but now I know I should have bought both!
