back when I lived in Japan I bought an astro city for about $300. now I live in the States and it is my most prized possession! What an awesome candy cab.

That arcade cabinet looks literally like huge candy. Glossy and sweet. Good work with editing ;-)

Aw man you are so lucky to have gotten yours in the 2000s. There's this nice little arcade in Kendall, FL that has a monopoly in Sega candy cabs. Hell it might've been the same guy you got your's from.

It's cool someone so close by has an invested interest in the candy cabs too (I'm from the Huntsville area myself)! I've just started doing research and this video is a cool overview of what to expect. Thanks a ton!

I was gonna ask if the picture-tube (CRT) screen was flat or curved glass, but one of the close-up shots just showed it was the latter. Shame, as the flat-glass versions gave a sharper picture... Hence why all CRT sets came with one just before everyone stopped making them.

Hi ! Beautyfull machine man.I'm a Sega Guy too and I've noticed the Famicom pillar and key holder ;) Glad to see fans all around the world. I Have 4 Sega Naomi's universal cab (one in bad shape) Here in France the arcade has almost dissapeared,how is it in USA ?

+Michael Lepond Thanks! Arcades are having a small surge in popularity, but you never see Japanese cabinets. There are a few arcades in major cities in the US.

I would love to pick up a candy some day. Right now I have a Millipede I bought almost a decade ago when I was 16 and a Mame cab I brought back to life from a gutted space duel. Next project is finding a nice cocktail or tempest that has been gutted to restore. I love orginal hardware but far from a purist.

Hey man, thanks for the vid. I noticed your replacement speakers are not shielded. you might not have issues with it but ideally you want shielded ones like the originals to avoid any potential issues with the crt. more expensive PC speakers, even recent ones have shielded speaker(logitech z623), although i am not familliar with which ones fit the astro outright.

@RetroMMA9 жыл бұрын
At a smidgen under 6' now, back then it wasn't so much an issue (the formative years). These days, I just lift until the monitor is easily visible. I've never been a fan of sitting while 'Arcade gaming' since the cocktail tables at Pizza Hut and the sort. It just doesn't seem the same experience as standing. :/

Having pretty much never stepped into an arcade back when they still were around I have no nostalgia for the wooden cabs, and find their aesthetics to be very ugly. Candy cabs though were love at first sight. Hope to have one of my own this year. Unfortunately they they are all pushing 20 years these days and finding one in a good shape is a challenge.
