So much great Manics material out there, I'm looking forward to seeing what you pick next. The Cardiff Millennium Stadium gig of 1999 (play "Design for Life" to start) which was essentially their Knebworth, would be my pick, but people have made some great suggestions otherwise. For something more intimate, the AOL or Maida Vale sessions on here are great, too.

Good lad for this, Rob. Same front man (James Dean Bradfield) your first video was from 1992. This is 2003. There's a load of links in your last Manics reaction, mate. The studio version of this is much heavier, btw.

To be honest, to really appreciate Masses Against the Classes you need a different version than this one, where the guitar is a bit drowned out. Maybe try the studio version, or a session: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52om6WHn8SEj8k

It's the same singer. He bulked out a bit in the good way after the first album. If you want to hear them be very raw rock then I'd recommend "Revol" kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJecYpeKp7GenaM The song is about how revolutionary leaders were failures in relationships. It's a clever play on words "Revol/loveR". I think the band aren't that fond of the track now but I really like it.

Hey mate, So the song you heard before was 'Motorcycle Emptiness' from 1992. 'Masses Against The Classes' was released in 2000 and was the first UK no. 1 single in the new millenium. It's the same singer (James Dean Bradfield), just nearly a decade on. The only change in the line up was lyricist and rhythm guitarist who disappeared in 1995. The Manics were supposed to tour the US to promote their acerbic post punk album 'The Holy Bible', relased the year ahead, which was primarily the vision of Edwards who was undergoing many problems including severe depression, anorexia and alcohool\substance abuse. 'The Holy Bible' is widely seen as the band's dark masterpiece and examins the darker aspects of the human experience including anxiety, sex work, the Final Solution, capital punishment and political totalitarianism. It's a hard yet thrilling listen and includes the single 'Faster' which I really recommend you listen to next; kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ2Ve6lqmd95p8k

Edwards has yet to be found, with some believing he staged the perfect disappearence to establish the ultimate rock n' roll myth, other theories suggest that his difficulties meant that he just wanted to hide and couldn't take the pressure. However, there has been no conclusive proof despite a number of researchesers trying to trace him and a (largely inept) police investigation. A number of days after he was last seen, his car was found at a known suicide spot with evidence he has been living in it for some days. He was only declared legally dead in 2008 but there has been no firm conclusion as to what became of him. The Manics were school friends, knowing each other from a very young age and it took a large toll on the other members which may account for why you didn't recognise Bradfield. Ironically, they became way more commercially successful from 1996 onwards.

Still no Suede Robk! Suede were the band that showed that there was more to the early 90's British indie scene than the Manchester sound. If 'Madchester' was the fire then Suede was the aerosol can thrown into it! They brought a sleazy, fey, glam-rock stomp to the scene.
