Roblox is might be one of the biggest games no one's heard of and a big part of that is their audience. Roblox dominates the younger gamer space, with around 75% of kids in the United States logging in and a massive concurrent user base. They have a great model, giving revenue to game devs who use their platform and making game development accessible to even tweens. Despite all of this... They still operate at a loss. You might want to revisit this sentence: "The in Game Currency Purchasing system is Non Predatory". A lot of games inside the Roblox ecosystem features all the usual Free To Play monetization mechanics (energy purchases, loot boxes, time gate mechanics, skin purchases etc) but this time aimed directly at kids without pretending otherwise. My kid burns through Robux (the in game hard currency) as if it was nothing. I've also seen quite a lot of popular games that contain adult themes that should probably not be on there. It's not all bad though, due to the limited engine capabilities, most games just end up being 3D chat rooms that help with reading and writing skills. The low barrier of entry and social aspect is obviously the main draw here.

I've played enough recent games and.... there's so much transactions that roughly a good chunk is pay-to-win. Seldom I find a game that doesn't really focus too much onto currency. And ever since tix got removed, getting any sort of change to clothing or other stuff is impossible without lending from friends or buying them.

Outside of the unique games or games that are of a similar genre but unaffiliated, any game that has a strong community or genre such as the Napoleonic ones or Star Wars ones, ect, the majority of people are mid to late teens or even older if they were in such communities back in the earlier days of ROBLOX.

ROBLOX has a variety of problems: predatory behavior, inappropriate games, a business model which has been shifting towards a monthly subscription, and a temporary fanbase.

Whenever this does happen however the user usually gets what they deserve. 2. Millions of games are being uploaded to roblox every second and there aren't that many moderators compared to that size. Thats the cost of having any popular platform like roblox. You are bound to find a few bad apples. 3. To be honest I have barely even spent money on roblox (5 dollars) and I'm genuinely having fun eith the games I find there (usually). I don't see what you mean. 4. How is this an issue? Obviously this is temporary but that is obviously expected due to the pandemic.

My biggest qualm with Roblox is how unintuitive the search algorithm is. There used to be a way to organize games you would search though genres, but that system got removed. Roblox only lets you see what it wants you to see via recommendations.

Hey, I wondered when you guys would do a piece on Roblox! I've played for a long time and had a lot of fun and memorable experiences on the platform with good friends. I originally played it because my PC couldn't run anything better, yet even as I trend out and away from its target demographic, I find myself coming back to because of the amazing developers on the platform that make the kind of games that just couldn't exist anywhere else. I love the video, but just to tack on something from personal experience, it's worth noting that "big kids" have been on Roblox in notable numbers for a long time, but the "experiences" on the platform that they play are usually different from the ones that the core audience of Roblox plays. For example, Roblox's premier FPS experience "Phantom Forces" has a live competitive league (check out the Competitive Phantom Forces Network here on KZbin), and other more technical games like "Blackhawk Rescue Mission 5" (an open-world raid shooter) and "Entry Point" (a challenging mission-based shooter that plays like a hardcore rendition of PAYDAY 2) just to name a few of my favorites draw good numbers of 14+ year old players all the time. More "big kids" might incentivize more developers to make experiences geared towards that portion of the audience, essentially creating two core Roblox audiences: its original tweens and early teens, and a new wave of older teens on their own set of experiences. Maybe Roblox themselves could help with that with new experience categories? Mostly just spitballing here.

That’s due to your age, when you created your account you put your birth date in, and for anyone under 12 they implement a “safe chat” which tags out a lot of things, like numbers and names so children don’t give away information, if you are older than 13 you can contact roblox support and try to change ur age but it’s incredibly difficult

I have been playing roblox for a long period of time to the point that I am not really in the demographic, take that info as you will. The atmosphere of roblox is changing rapidly from a majorly 9-12 year old base to a 13-16 year old base. I am within a roblox group with 30k members and around 400 players on the game in a day, and the ranges are much more older than I usually expect as prior to this, most of these groups had 9-12 year olds. So roblox should take the leap for growing the older audience because those players grow up, they want experiences that fit their tween/teen aspects.
