The top bolt broke while I was attempting to tighten it. I probably should have stopped wrenching on it, but i finally thought I had the bolt aligned... Incredibly frustrating.... Now I gotta figure out how i'm going to unscrew the bolt.

Alright Rob. I finally got all the parts in for the drivers grab handle (waited over 4 months)and installed today! It took me about 10 minutes. I did have to remove and reevaluate once. I can see it could be difficult because of the multiple pieces and moving parts. I've been doing this kind of work (mechanic) for over 30 years. I learned a long time ago that I'll take luck over skill any day!!!

FWIW I just ordered one of these on Saturday, it arrived by Monday (granted I'm also in Oregon) and it only took 5 minutes to install. Seems like they addressed a lot of the legitimate complaints people had with more recent versions. Everything fit together perfectly, and the little clip was easy to keep in place too. Awesome upgrade, looks great, and now my 5'3" wife can get in the truck easier too.

I fought with those bolts for about five minutes then I put a dab of anti-seize on the screws and they went right in. Total install time with tips from your vid: 20 mins. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for putting this up, Rob! My grab handle is in the mail - nice to have a video to cover the installation. What was the issue with bolt alignment? Just hard to start without stripping? Some people have reported having to bend the lower mount point - I assume you didn't have to do that.

It’s just tedious. Not much space to work, you can’t see the hole and it has to be aligned dead-on. Just take your time👍

Just fyi, that clip with the nut that Rob showed was too big, we both got ours the same day and the clip was large as well. She said if u have the larger clip that she would send the smaller one. I think bending that metal would have helped...maybe..but i dont want to mess with the original structure around that airbag, so i asked for the smaller clip. We will see..worse comes to worse. I can glue the nut to the back and do it that way lol. It looks good even when i was one bolt from getting it in. The pillar is spot on!

I think this Mod is great and should have come from the factory this way especially if you have a lift! However, if for over $170 not sure it is worth it! I can think of so many other useful mods you can do with that money. Next time provide a link for your subscribers so it is easier. To make a reply “see description” is not really cool!

Got mine today for a 2020 Tacoma. The clip (Metal Plate Speed Nut) for the lower bolt is too big. KJTO is aware of the issue and you have to email them to request a correct hardware bag. I'm looking forward to installing it.

So Rob.. what’s the secret with that top bolt? I have extreme patience but it’s wearing thin.. the bottom bolt is not an issue, but that top bolt just wont thread! Ive noticed that the original bolt is beveled, perhaps so that its easier to thread in the slot, but the replacement bolt that comes from KTJO has no bevel. I’ve even tried swapping the longer/shorter bolts, does not make a difference.. what was the secret for you?

Thank you for posting this video to show us. I am excited about this as it is the only game in town to add the handle. Did you have to do any bending of metal to get the screw to fit? Does it feel solid when you grab to pull yourself in?

TBH..I didn’t have much faith in the manufacturers ability to ever supply! I saw that TB was selling one so I ordered from them (I didn’t realize at the time they were getting it from that same supplier!). My order was confirmed on 12/6 and I received it on 12/29. No bending of anything and it feels rock solid👍

My guess is that Toyota made both A pillars the same for both right drive trucks as well as left. The left side would be the passenger side in other countries. I wonder if one could obtain an actual Toyota grab handle and pillar cover from a right drive truck. Would that fit the driver side on a left drive truck?

Rob, I have to say I was quite surprised and disappointed that my 2020 SR/SX Access Cab Tacoma didn’t come factory with a driver’s side grab handle. Especially since my 2015 had one. I'm still in aww about it this just completes the truck thanks for the video it helped on reassemble with the plastic that was the hardest part next to bolting the bolt down truly impressed, and this mod is coming with me on my next tacoma in 2024 TRD off road in vodo blue

Rob... I may have to taper my watching of your mods video. I ordered this mod for my Tacoma while watching it. The only problem was TacomaBeast must have quit carrying them, had to order it from KTJO 4x4. Hopefully, their ordering system is up to date since these are listed as clearance items. One thing I don't understand is why Toyota chose to not put this item on the driver's side since they have it on the passenger side. I'm sure that Toyota can get them cheaper in bulk than from a 3rd party aftermarket vendor. If Toyota wants to stay on top they need to quit cheapin' out on items such as this.

Not blaming you.... I ordered the grab handle from KTJO 4x4. They have only communicated once on my FB Messenger question of When they'll have stock to ship. They answered in one word: "soon". Subsequent communication (email, messenger, on their site) have gotten no response. Now I see that they have a 1.57 on the BBB and all complaints of frauds and crooks. I'm regretting the purchsae

Looks the same as the passenger side to me, but you’d have to have them verify that🤔

The airbag will function the same, but it kind of looks like the added bolt might affect the deployment of the bag. Only 1 way to find out lol
