Thumbs up. This is one of my favs. The satire about AI, capitalism, and militarizing the police is just as topical today as it was back then. Plus, that fucking theme is INCREDIBLE.

Robocop is one of my personal top 10 favorite movies. The second one is fun and worth watching, but don’t expect it to be as good as the first. As for ED-209 being garbage, “Who cares if it works or not?” 😁

I didn't see the answer posted yet, so I'll just say that Robocop's pistol, the Auto 9 in the Robocop universe, is a dressed up Beretta 93R. It's a version of the 9mm Beretta 92FS that is capable of firing single shots as well as three round bursts and has an extended magazine holding twenty rounds of 9x19mm.

The problem with this movie is it predicted so many things and the American society went in the predicted direction so far that by today's standards its cyberpunk world seems tame compared to reality. The newscast at the beginning was supposed to be hilariously bizarr, but it's not that far from what you see on TV nowadays.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!" Fun Fact: Nancy Allen first arrived on set when Paul Verhoeven was shooting the deliberately cheesy sitcom "It's Not My Problem" which appears on television screens throughout the film. Allen was initially horrified to think that she had signed on to make a film with an incompetent director. Movie Magic Fact: Most shots of Robocop and the police car show him getting out or preparing to get in. Peter Weller didn't fit into the police car in full costume. When he needed to be in the car, he wore the top part of the costume and sat in his underwear. To maintain the illusion that RoboCop wears the entire suit while inside a car, most shots show his robotic feet exiting first. Fast Thinking Fact: For the attempted rape scene, writer Edward Neumeier originally had RoboCop (Peter Weller) shoot past the victim's cheek, hitting and killing the rapist. While getting ready to shoot the scene as scripted, Paul Verhoeven noticed that Donna Keegan's legs were spread apart, giving him the idea to have RoboCop shoot between her legs and hit the rapist in the genitals. Neumeier loved the idea and that was how the scene was shot.

You gave a solid 8 but I guarantee you if you've seen it in the late 80's as a kid like me you'd give it a solid 9 or straight 9.5. It is close to perfection in the genre.

Amazing classic one of my favorites from my childhood Robocop directed by Paul Verhoeven starring Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Ronny Cox, Daniel O'Herlihy, Miguel Ferrer, Kurtwood Smith and music score by Basil Poledouris. Thank you Wade great reaction this film has two sequels and one remake Robocop 2 (1990) Robocop 3 (1993) and Robocop (2014)

Robocop himself is inspired by Dredd minus the whole judge jury and executioner aspect. Judges in the 2000AD universe are a mix between police officers and judges who can sentence people on the spot while Robocop does not have this ability. Dredd (2012) is a heavy recommend. It's slower budget so it's not on the same level art direction wise to the 1990s Judge Dredd film instead going for a more near future look similar to Robocop but the film is amazing, underrated cult classic. Robocop 2 is also really fun directed by Irvin Kershner who directed movies like Empire Strikes Back, less bloody as the film is only PG-13 but I still like it. The film was written by Frank Miller and Walon Green with Frank Miller being one of the most famous comic book writers of all time from Daredevil: Born Again to Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, 300, Sin City to name a few. Modern Batman films and Daredevil Netflix these were heavily inspired by his comics. Frank Miller also wrote the really fun Robocop vs Terminator comic books under Dark Horse Comics. Marvel also has a good amount of Robocop comics as well starting in 1990.

@@christopherhorton821 Prime Directives was a mini series in the early 2000s. The TV series was around 94, the Ford mustang just came out in the design, looked kinda weird as a cop car. There was a ghost woman in the ocp computer mainframe, very pg story lines. I will say that I thought Prime Directives was better than the older series, though it was still cheesy. I really liked the closing of it though.

Yeah this movie rules! Sure, it's a bit goofy and dated, but it's still awesome! And it has some messages that are still relevant today, like giant corporate entities taking over everything. Robocop himself was done all practical. They didn't have CG back then. Even the ED-209 was claymation! But despite the limitations of the time, they still made an awesome movie! Paul Verhoven is an amazing director! If you want to see another one of his masterpieces, check out Starship Troopers!
