check out Frank Miller's Robocop 2 graphic novel. It's a comic book adaptation of his original draft of robocop 2, which was scrapped for being to extreme, too violent, and too expensive for the studio to have Frank Miller's name attached to the production. Much more focused, creative, and bizarre than what we saw onscreen.

@@naneek2 I own it, and actually like it. Sure it's zany and absolutely crazy at times, but it captures the whole satirical feel of Robocop's world. Over the top but I find that it adds to the entertainment factor. Also ties Robocop 3's plot really well together with 2's. No need for a Robocop 3 if they had gone with the original screenplay like in the comic.

Orion kept changing the script. They couldn't decide whether to keep it as a satire, an existential drama or straight action movie. If they'd just picked a thread and stuck to it, it would've worked a lot better.

@@naneek2 I actually was curious about that, so I read it. It is a dumb, pretentious crap. Miller in general is a mediocre bloodthirsty pervert. I can only imagine being an executive, paying for a script for a new Robocop and receiving that edgy degeneracy. Plus, comic itself looks ugly. Seems like artist wasn't paid good enough, so 80% of the time Robocop looks like a crumpled ball of paper, so the lazy creep didn't have to draw straight lines, only general shapes.

This movie was such a missed opportunity, instead of that Caine guy they should have resurrected Clarence Boddicker as Robocop 2 at the very beginning of the movie. That would have offered for a longer more interesting plot regarding Murphy and his former wife, with RoboClarence going after her, and Murphy having to finally take him down.
@AirwolfArchive5 жыл бұрын
navylaks2 In both sequels, the kid parts should've been played by Murphy's son - except he saves him from death in "2" and comes to his aid in "3", when faced with eviction. He'd now be back with his mother in the suburbs. She would've been more prominent in "2", per your great idea. She would be even more so in "3", having been forced to join the rebel group to survive. Lewis wouldn't have died till the end, when she sustains injuries as a result of protecting them - or her. He would now be reunited with his family, but mourning the loss of his partner - who if he'd lived as a human being, we were led to believe they may've had an affair. The long, lingering looks they exchange outside the coffee shop, before they receive the call to pursue Clarence and the gang, suggest this. Ellen would sense their connection in "3" and confront them on it; making Anne's act of bravery her ultimate redemption by sacrificing her life, given she failed to back Murphy up when it mattered during his execution. Ellen would forgive her before she dies and support her husband in his conflicted mourning. The Murphy arc would have then come full circle, without the need to resurrect Anne as a female RoboCop. He wouldn't live with them or go shopping and play ball - but would build some kind of a relationship with them and keep an eye on them.

Neil Blomkamp's robocop 2 will start shooting in dallas soon. It's a direct sequel to the original robocop, written by the original writing team who the studio chose not to work with during the production or writing of robocop 2. instead, the first draft of robocop 2 was written by Frank Miller. his work was scrapped by the studio because orion couldn't afford frank miller's writing credit, so they rewrote miller's storyline with a committee of in house writers already employed by orion. Blomkamp's version with a new story by the writers of the first robocop movie should be pretty interesting, if nothing goes wrong in pre-production. It sounds like he dropped alien 5 to work on this, and his interpretation of what made the original film work was very much in line with my own. Blomkamp's recent independent short films have been visual explorations of cgi flesh, so I think we can expect some truly extreme gore.

I cannot see the robocop returns film every getting off the ground at all. Weller was finished with it all back in 1990, and they killed off his partner, so where the hell can they really go from there, is beyond me. Be better off going from the 3rd or from the series that was done in 1994.

I enjoy Frank’s stuff for a long time now and I’ve read it. It’s good, of course, but of the stuff related to why I think they couldn’t use it for the movie that I remember, there’s a few sequences of entire buildings getting destroyed, action that would be tough and expensive to pull off, including details like wardrobe and makeup and some stuff that was simply hard to make look good on the screen. Only movie I can remember that had action inside a realistic place being demolished is “I, Robot”, which had the effects and technology playing a huge part of the amusement factor, and still was a much smaller demolition that what Frank’s script would need. So I don’t think it’s just a matter of being too “extreme” in the story, but just that it wasn’t practical. Btw, as someone who draws, I think Frank would have drawn that comic better than whoever did it, which unfortunately I don’t recall the name.

What really irks me about the movie are two things, one. How is it that Robocop 2 was directed by Irvin Kershner, the guy who directed empire strikes back, yet Robocop 2 still sucked.. two. Why the fuck would OCP willingly use A DRUG LORD’S BRAIN AS THE NEXT FUTURE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT?! In the comic, it actually made sense that they would use one of their enforcers as the next robocop
