I always liked the scenes where Murphy wanted to connect with his past family life or in a sense maybe he wanted to watch over them as Robocop, without them letting them know who he truly was. Even when Robocop told his wife that he didn't know her , i could tell it hurt him. A few moments later , Robocop walked over by the window to look at his wife as she cried. That was some good drama about how a man could really feel if his body was so badly damaged, that he could only live inside of a mechanical body. To me , Robocop seems to question what is more important , the man or the machine. Sometimes, it seems like Murphy struggled to hold onto his humanity, while trying to avoid becoming just a total machine. The older Robocop movies i liked best, with Peter Weller.

@amtraklover i remember the tv show, but i liked the Robocop movies better. I think the purpose of showing Robocop wanting to watch over his family, was to remind the audience that Murphy was still human, but inside of a mechanical body. Murphy missed being able to be with his family, when he use to have a human body.

@Robin-q1c I am a Robocop fan . Not only have i seen Robocop 1, 2, and 3. I also saw the entire Robocop tv series. I also saw the Rebocop reboot movie. I also saw some of the Robocop animated series episodes. I am more of a Rebocop fan than some. Alexis Murphy was a man first, a police officer killed in the line of by some crooks. After his death, OCP put some of Alexis's human remains into a mechanical body. The most important part of the mechanical body was Alexis Murphy's brain. OCP tried to make Alexis more of a machine, but he overode that program, because he was still human, not a cyborg. So, i am clearly a real Robocop fan .....

@Bill-iz3od I can't quite understand what Robocop meant by what he said. I mean in a mechanical body, how could he have feelings for a person that he couldn't remember? The movie seemed to question man vs. machine, or could the essence of someone exist in a mechanical body, without losing their humanity?

I agree with Paul Verhoeven. In my belief, not having his family there adds to the loneliness of Robocop, further stripping away who he once was. And the dehumanizing factor was one of the key elements that the reboot royally messed up on.

Robocop is about a dude who was forced to return to work. And not only work, but work 365 days a year and never be able to rest or go home. He'd see others grow old, retire, and he would see new recruits come and go until the company decides they don't want to invest in him anymore and he ends up trash. Overall, I imagine in real life Robo would get a very good lawyer and ensure his family is well taken care of.

Wanna know why? Because Robocop is a machine using a blanked memory human brain. Alex is dead. That face is synthetic mask that was made to honor Murphy. RoboCop does detective work to unravel the mystery of Murphy's death. He is overcome by emotions Murphy had from recovered memories. At one point he asks Lewis "Murphy had a wife and son what happened to them?" He didn't say "I had" He said "Murphy had". In the end RoboCop assumes the identity of Murphy. People always get it wrong with RoboCop. They always think Alex isn't dead. The movie is about a Machine becoming almost human by avenging the original owner and donor of his brain.
