We had two in town, if something wasnt in stock at that store we'd run across town n check the other. Then one turned into a Texas Roadhouse restaurant and the other into an O'Reilly's auto parts. Then we had two family videos and one is now a laundromat...and the kids will never knoooooooww

Actually Metallica were right and this song kinda celebrates that fact. The point of this song is about how great walking into a video store was and the same can be said about a Record or CD store now everything is accessible online and Napster kinda started that but it is never as satisfying as spending the day in a record store much like how streaming services aren't as fun as Blockbuster or a video store.

The craziest thing to think about is that kids truly will never know...I wonder what else will change between now and the time I have children. It's so incredible the progress we went through in just the last 20 years as a species and how progress really doesn't wait for anyone. It doesn't matter if we think it's good or bad, it just keeps going, whether you like it or not. There are days when I genuinely wish I could walk along isles, exploring my options, and rent a DVD or N64 game again...just for the weekend. But those days will never come back. That's what progress does and we will all just have to deal with it as memories now.

Man... I came to psychostick to have a good time... Instead I'm crying. Here are my personal experiences: I experienced Blockbuster and Hollywood Video when they were near their peak in the early 2000's. I used to beg my parents to rent tapes of the Rugrats movies (and the DVDs once those were coming out). I remember the aisles of cases, the smell of popcorn, the bubblegum machines, the golden-age-of-Hollywood motifs. I lived near 3 video stores (2 blockbusters and a Hollywood video). Those places felt like second homes to me, especially since my parents and I bonded over movies. When we heard that those companies were going out of business and their stores were closing, we took one last trip to our closest Blockbuster. We bought a couple of the Old Pink Panther movies, but we've only ever watched one (I don't know if we have the other two). A few years later, that video store had become a Five Guys. A pretty worthy replacement, but it's not the same. The other two had more grim fates. The other blockbuster became a bank, and the Hollywood video became a gym/yoga studio. I miss those places. And if i could have three days, and all the money I could want, I'd go on a movie/game spree. Shame I'll never get the chance.

A beautiful ode to time-honored ritual. Man...I miss that experience. Nothing like finding the perfect movie and video game and then grabbing candy, popcorn, and candy on the way to the check-out counter. Netflix and streaming SUX! Mark my words,t they'll be coming for the libraries and bookstores next.

I love AVGN and have since my friend got me into his content back in 2008. I was only an 8th grader back then. He still makes great content to this day. Glad we still have this man. James is great and so are Psychostick. Btw my best friend is Red Shirt Guy from that show in August of 2018 lol. Psychostick saw my friend moshing by himself a lot and called him Red Shirt Guy and told him he's awesome. Also, they asked who had the hariest chest in the room and I showed them my chest and then they laughed as I did it and I asked "Should I put on a shirt and take a hyke?"

Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Premier Video, Greene's, some little hole in the wall place I can't remember the name of that rented stuff you couldn't get elsewhere, Book Broker (still exists but they no longer rent videos) Family Video is all that remains

Parallels the thing with Weird Al. Heaps of raw talent is there, but since they cater to the comedy niche they don't get taken seriously. I'd bet the live shows are worth seeing if you can.

Blockbuster Athens, GA 1996. In line behind a Iady with 4 young kiddos. The account she was trying to rent on did not seem to work. One of the older kids started yelling something that I heard as HEY! Tell them DADS LAST NAME! ,"Ay! tell em dah's lah's name!!!!!" and he said this over and over . Never forget the sound of emergency in his voice. Crucial.

The thing that kids that didn't grow up going to video stores will never understand is the sense of DISCOVERY that you got from going to the Video store. Looking through the aisles finding something weird/interesting that you never heard before. Getting excited reading the box and hurrying home to watch it and tell your friends about it. It was really an event on a weekend to make a trek out to your local Video store. Since the internet blew up there really aren't any hidden gems anymore. Everyone knows about everything and has heard about everything. Also doesn't help that there aren't many indie films that you can easily discover and watch anymore either. Although there WAS things about video stores that sucked, Like being out of a specific movie you wanted, dealing with lines, or getting a movie that was damaged... I still miss those days. 😢♥️🤘

you know with a couple drinks in ya this video is actually really emotional I was born in 97 and while I wasn't in the video rental world till the end. It truly was the end of an era. I remember renting some of my favorite movies from the west Coast Video. movies like Leprechaun, the remake of the blob and so on. movies I probably never would have known or would have made an impact on me as a kid you think places or objects are immortal but when west Coast went out of business I was 16 and a part of my childhood died never to return except for in the memories of others. videos like this take me back to a simpler time when my dad and mom would let me pick out whatever at West Coast and the memories I had about the experience. AVGN and this video truly are the greatest
