It is a shame, But completely unsurprising. The woke crusaders are trying to go after every single game/game franchise out there, So at the end of the day the best thing to do is just to stick to the older games in my opinion. Ever since they've been pushing woke messages in video games I've been focusing on older games and I've really been enjoying either revisiting the older games that I grew up with (Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress, Bioshock) or visiting older games that I haven't played but have high praise.

I remember the Devs saying it gets better after a while trust us. So I thought and hoped that maybe the trailer was a miss direct, maybe after the first mission the camera pulls back and it's Shaundi playing a video game, throwing the controller saying "This sucks" or something equally as witty, but that never happened. I didn't mind the idea of a reboot, I was even prepared for new characters, I just wasn't prepared for these characters, or the story, or the writing.

I consider all this stuff to be what I call "low attention span content". It's what happens when a creator (whether a TV show, a KZbin video, a movie, whatever) doesn't trust its audience to stay engaged by the subject itself and feels the need to throw in sounds and graphics and things popping onto the screen or edited into the video and so forth to keep them watching. I'm not saying that this was necessarily the intent here, but it happens and I cannot stand it. If a video is going to throw cute little drawings on the screen or repeatedly cut to images of memes to emphasize a point or underline every cutaway with a click or whoosh, I'm just going to turn it off. Shit gets on my nerves.

The talent that used to exist were gone, or have moved beyond their interests in the past. They then wanted to make games they wanted to create, but players didn't want to play. Lack of leadership and so on. What actually killed the studio was that the Saudi investor pulled out last second which lead to the collapse. They had mismanaged the company to the point the investor was the only hope they had.

I will never understand the trend of rebooting a popular franchise to appeal exclusively to new fans instead of the old ones. The right approach would be either do something that appeals to both or just the old ones. If all you want are new fans, then create a new IP. It'd be cheaper, you'd have more control and you wouldn't risk losing existing customers. Why change the established one to alienate an existing fanbase for the _possibility_ of attracting a new one? Back in 2021 (or so) I participated in an online event for the selected game media outlets that revealed this new Saints Row game. We were shown the bespoken trailer and after that there was a QA session with the devs team. I think I was the only one from that bunch of journalists that played the whole series. Hell, some of those guys might not even were born when the first game had its release. I was the only one, I think, who was appalled by what I had seen. The chat was full of words "wow" and "amazing". That was a pure absurd really. The newb gaming cohort ate that trailer and started hyping. I couldn't get it and thought I might not understand the new trends maybe. But then I saw the sad and exhausted look on the senior devs faces. Those balding older dudes from the core Volition, who made first games, had this distinctive tired "I'm too old for this sh*t" aura. So I realised they were not happy with what they had created either, this zoomer sh*t was forced on them from the management above. Since then I cannot blame Volition for the fail of the new Saints Row. At least the core team guys, they knew it was bad but nobody cared about their opinion.

I loved Saints Row 2. It's a game I still like to go back and play every once in a while. I spared myself the torture of playing Saints Row 2022. I would still like to see a new Saints Row game. More so a reboot of the first two games, if that's possible. Just use the same world. Make the cities more robust, allow for more NPC interaction, accessing more buildings, newer vehicles. The game already had a good assortment of weapons.

Everyone wants a new Saints Row. Nobody says “This is amazing... SHUT IT DOWN.” But they have to hire ACTUAL WRITERS. That Joss Whedon style of writing is the worst, they really tried to make "relatable characters" by taking out all of the edge of previous games characters. A game made to appeal to "everyone", which in execution appeals to no one.

It has a bad story, horrible cringe characters, you can't rob stores, lack of drug cartels, stupid The Dustmoot missions that nobody asked for, playing too safe for it's own good, and ect. They didn't even put any effort into researching how the modern gangs operate like it was the case with the first Saint Row game. Ps. A bunch of youtubers would make a much better Saints Row game then this piece of trash.

They tried too hard to be edgier than GTA, and ended up going all in on shock value over anything else. Everything was over the top by the 3rd game, with all the futuristic garbage, which just killed off the fanbase through sensory overload. Ironically, GTAV was a step down from previous titles because they started to copy Saints Row.

What’s interesting is that after Saints Row 2 the series lacks one of the most important things to the story… *Saints Row.* I don’t think most people understand what the row is. The church where it all started and where it was rebuilt. The literal heart of the operations. Where the gangs first leader started the group, and also where he would begin his last day on earth. In the first game, the church is run down and covered with graffiti, almost giving off this image that reinforces how the gang is coming up from nothing. Even though the church couldn’t be an HQ in the second game, it still stood as a representation of all you were trying to accomplish. The row itself was missing from SR3 up to the latest game. If nothing else, this is just a nitpick with the story. Saints Row has been missing *Saints Row* for the majority of the series, which I think is a little symbolic.

I don’t like using this word at all, but I think the biggest problem with the game was wokeism. The writers disingenuously attempts to appeal to “moDeRN aUdIenCEs!1!1!1!” by being as inoffensive and PC as possible, not understanding that nobody on either political spectrum cares. They also tried to appeal to the very small audience who otherwise wouldn’t even play their game in the first place. This is both creatively and a financially bad decision.

Simple Volition didn’t listen to the fan base when they kept saying “We Don’t Like It!” “Go Woke Go Broke!” “We kill the woke people in the first three games” But instead Volition refused to listen and verbally abused those who voiced an opinion to them that was in no way aggressive and then Volition had the sheer nerve and audacity to demand sympathy when they effed-up. I didn't mind the reboot, my main gripes with the game were the fact that the map felt uninspired and the main story was so short. When I reached the final mission it felt like "That's it?" and it didn't really leave me wanting to do any of the side stuff. This coming from a guy who does a yearly play through of SR2 and bi yearly run of SR3

People were already falling off with 4....then they tried to make it politically correct outtaknow where. Which made it worse. Thats the problem with these movie producers and game devs., they try to be inclusive wen the fanbase they had had no problem. Trying to be inclusive doesnt sell. This game was originally about gangsters. Also keep inmind this game has always h ad a rating for older ages (meaningthere was never a reason to he inclusive to begin with.) so wen you taking away things that made your game great just for appeasement, your killing your own game

Always fun to watch one of these and see how much the channel knows about this community. Anyone who doesn't understand that Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third are essentially entirely different franchises with entirely different fans doesn't know their shit. It's really strange to see you show SR2's metacritic score as proof of it being the favourite, when SR:TT actually has a higher score. I would strongly argue that SR2 is by far the better game and is certainly the favourite of many, but the fact is that SR:TT made the franchise truly mainstream and created a whole new generation of fans built on its over the top action. These two groups rarely see eye to eye, except for hating GooH and AoM. I think I can confidently say that SR2 fans did not care about the series evolving or innovating. All we wanted was the old game to be functional on PC, or a basic remaster. We'd long given up any notion of that studio ever releasing a competant sequel. Less confidently, I imagine SR:TT fans didn't much care for evolution either, they just wanted more wacky weapons, characters and missions, a fresh toy box.

People often use video games (As well as movies, TV shows, Et cetera.) as an escape to the issues they face (Whether that be in their own lives or in the greater world), However when you start to go after these aforementioned escapes to corrupt and try to push an agenda that people trying to escape by participating in said escape then it utterly infuriates people and causes them to either boycott your product or simply stick to playing older games (Or both, Especially). While those things can sometimes overlap they are not the same thing. Along with that not all media needs to escapist fantasy devoid of political messaging. With games especially it's more about the level you as a player engage with those themes. You can choose to treat very political games like fallout new Vegas and bioshock as fun sci-fi action games whereas people like me choose to think about the themes and political messages, and id argue neither of these approaches are necessarily right or wrong

To be honest tho I blame the gta fan boys for saints row's downfall bc when they were talking about it being a gta clone they were harassing the developers it wasn't like they were even playing the game they were just all over it like oh gta clone gta clone and then the developers got so tired of that they came up with all the wacky goofy ridiculous stuff that are in saints row 3 and 4 which were fun games but never should've been saints row games at all especially when saints row 4 got to be where Santa clause was in it then you play as johnny gat when you go to hell and fight Satan (even in gat out of hell) and then the entire game is a whole mixture with aliens and superheroes but saints row was originally about you fending off other gangs and take over their territory but the problem is the developers didn't really care about none of that so they got away from all that stuff and even when they realized there were ppl who actually were fans of saints row 1 and 2 the developers ignored them bc they were like screw it we rather have new fans that might get into saints row 3 and 4 then after all these years we eventually get the reboot which pissed off alot of ppl who were fans of 1 and 2 then pissed off more ppl who were fans of 3 and 4 so now that put volition out of business

I see it the same way. The blame for the decline of the series lies somewhere between the GTA fanboys and the developers. SR1 and 2 were my favourite games in the series. I also thought SR3 was ok. But I never finished part 4. I got the reboot with my graphics card as a promo perk. To be honest, I didn't find it as bad as most people did. But for me it simply wasn't Saints Row. If you ignore the name, you're just left with a below-average game.
