Hi, in this video we used a rubber flooring transition strip to cover the wires. It worked well, but I prefer to cut the concrete about 1cm deep and lay the wire in the cut. It tends to be much less noticable.

What are you using to cover the wires across the driveway?
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, in this video we have a rubber flooring transition strip. Usually sold for floating flooring. It is available from Bunnings and you can buy it by the meter. www.bunnings.com.au/qep-33m-roberts-vinyl-edge-cap-grey_p0027321 We have also tried aluminium flooring strips and they also work but can interfere with the signal a little. It is always best to just cut 1cm grooves in the concrete and cover with silicon, but I am aware that a lot of people don't like the idea of cutting into the driveway. With all driveway crossings, first try laying the wire down on top first and test the mowers ability to travel on the wire as there can be significant interference caused by the steel reinforcement in the concrete. Once you have a good spot and it tests ok, then install the wire permanently. Thanks.

@@robotlawnmowersaustralia7913 Interesting solution. How did you attach (what glue etc.?) this flooring transition strip to the concrete? Alternatively what type of silicon would your recommend for filling in the grooves if cut - is there some special type or just the ordinary sanitary silicon? Many thanks in advance for answers!

@@WalterMadrassaHi, we typically use any outdoor rated silicone to stick down a transition strip if used. We also use the same silicon for filling concrete cuts. Great review. Can you tell me what the distance between the in and out cables should be for secondary areas? How wide does a crossover need to be between the areas? Thank you.
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, the distance between the wires is recommended by the manufacture to be 25cm, however you can narrow this to around 15-20cm for most installations. I have had this working with only 5cm between. So you can toy with this a bit and see what works for you. The thing to remember is all concrete has some level of interference to the wire signal. The type of rock and amount of reinforcement can affect this distance, which is why the manufacturer recommends 25cm. Thanks.

Thank you for the video, it was pretty detailed. Do you know if you can pick up the robot and take it to a separate lawn to mow, or does it need a separate docking station on the second lawn? There is quite a long distance between our lawns with some steps in between, so the robot getting there on it's own is not an option. Cheers.
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79133 жыл бұрын
Hi RU55K11. Yes you can carry the machine to a separate area. You must install the wire in one continuous loop from the charging station, around all areas you want to robot to operate in. So you would need to run your perimeter wire from your first lawn area all the way to your second area, then around the second area and then back to the first area to complete the continuous loop. After this you can carry the robot to the second area and press the start button three times to put the robot into "Homeless" mode. This way when the mower finishes its battery or scheduled time, it will just stop instead of trying to follow the wire to find the base station. You can just simply start the robot the normal way (not in homeless mode) but when the battery runs down it will find the wire and then travel on the wire for 20mins looking for the base station before stopping with an error code "Cant find Home". You can also install a second base station if that is prefered and share the robot between the two bases. I hope this helps. :)

Unless you predominantly sell Husqvarna, they don't allow me to sell their product. Could you please describe how it works with zones?
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
Hi Kosta S, Zones are determined by your yard size and shape and the installation of your perimeter wire. If you have a narrow passage between two different areas you can set the mower to start mowing at the largest section of each area. With the Worx models it is still very likely to travel through the narrow path anyway unless the narrow path has the wires down to 5-10cm apart. The mower is set via the multizone function which is a travel distance setting that records the distance from the base station to the start point that you set in each area. If you have one area that has a narrow passage that is say one metre wide then I would recommend you set your starting point at the end of the narrow passage but there would be no reason to set multiple zones as the mower will work it way around to all areas by itself. I hope this makes sense, if you have more specific questions please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Rocker, we get this question a lot because robot mowers keep the lawn maintained perfectly all the time. So if they are cutting longer grass that you can see being cut then they are not doing their job correctly. I can assure you they do cut the grass very well and you lawn looks freshly cut 365 days a year. I did take a video on cutting longer grass a few years back with a cheaper branded mower with the same blade type as the Worx Landroid. You can see in this video that they do cut very well with the kick back razor type blade system. robotlawnmowers.com.au/aiovg_videos/exgain-e1800-cutting-long-grass/

So this just does a random cutting pattern does it? Like most mowers seem to be. Shame they aren't smarter and more efficient like say a xiaomi vaccum.
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, Thanks for the comment. Yes they do still run in random patterns but that is mostly because it ensures that the mower can get to ever corner of your yard. Luckily for robot vacuums they have 99.9% traction, so when their wheels turn the robot know exactly how far it traveled or turned. With Robot Mowers the traction is an unknown variable. So for now all makes and models run in this random pattern. Hopefully in the next 5 years we will see some better technology that will both mow more efficiently and remove the requirement for a perimeter wire.
@1977pbrown4 жыл бұрын
@@robotlawnmowersaustralia7913 Shame. It seems the irobot one released to limited audience maps more like xiaomi vaccum. I think it uses wireless beacons so it knows where it has gone. Not sure how much that will however. The vaccum still knows where it is even if it has wheel spin. It's the laser optical sensor that determines its location so wheel spin doesn't affect its location. And it never misses a spot like these random patterns tend to do. Well eventually they get all spots, but in the meantime it's mowed other locations multiple time so not overly efficient. My xiaomi vaccum only cost 450 AUD before it was released here (prices gone up since they have distributors here) so was hoping there would be a 2k mower that was as smart as my vaccum.. Looks like there is still a wait unfortutely.

@@1977pbrown Unfortunately this is not the case. The Irobot Terra is in trials in German currently and uses similar tech to your robot vacuum but out side is a very different scenario to your inside robot. Currently the Terra performs well in simple areas where the nodes have direct line of sight to the robot. If they were available here I would have them in my line up, but the price is likely to be in the AUD$4000 mark and additional nodes will be expensive. There is much better tech coming from other Robot Mower specialist, but again it is not available in Australia, but should be in the next 5 years. Hopefully only 2 or 3 if we are lucky. For now we are stuck with perimeter wires and random pattern mowing. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Ultimo, The wire is simply installed under a rubber strip used for floating flooring. You can usually buy it from flooring stores or the hardware. There is also good products out there link the cable duct in this link on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Electriduct-Rubber-Duct-Cord-Cover/dp/B002C8CIVM?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_9 Spacing the wires only 300mm apart will mostly stop unwanted travel travelling from one zone to the other. You can also use aluminium strip to protect the cables although it can interfere a little bit with the signal from the wire. Thanks.

Good video! I am considering this one as my first robo mower and have been reading various tests and reviews. Do you have any thoughts on how it compares to mccolloch s600 or r1000. Latest tests in Sweden give McCulloch the edge but I for some reason am drawn too worx. My feeling is that worx has much better app and possibilities too improve trough simple ota updates so it seems more modern and “smart”. Still I want the one that does the best job mowing as that still is the main purpose of course :) cut to edge seems like worx might doo better than many. Best regards, thanks in advance✌🏻
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
Hi, here in Australia the McCullough is sold under the Gardena name and are both part of the husqvarna group. So mostly they are a cheaper built husqvarna robot mower. The McCullough models have one feature above the worx model and that is the guide wire to bring the mower directly home. This feature becomes an advantage in larger installations to minimise the return home path and can make it easier to navigate the Robot through narrow openings. The worx however will manage all the same paths without any issues without the extra guide wire. You then also get the integrated wifi connection and the optional extras to choose from that includes gsm gps tracking, ultrasonic sensors, the magnet “off limits” and up to 1km wifi extender “radio link”. You’re quite correct about the app. It is a very user friendly and very stable functionality. Then the “cut to edge” really puts them over the top. So I might be a little bias, but I think the features of the worx far outweighs any other mower in the price bracket.
@marics19804 жыл бұрын
@@robotlawnmowersaustralia7913 Thanks for your answer! Yes it belongs to Husqvarna/Gardena "family. I have something about 350 square meters so one thing that I want to figure out is how worth it is to buy a mower with larger capacity. I have no problem spending a bit more just as long as it's not in vain. I really don't want to consider something made for 300 square meters, I'm thinking more like landroid M500 or M700 or Mccolloch S600 or R1000. What is your experience? Does it make sense to look at mowers that can handle 1000 square meters ? I kind of hope it would meen less mowing time and better handling of small bumps and handling of uneven terrain. Best regards!👍🏻
@robotlawnmowersaustralia79134 жыл бұрын
@@marics1980 You are very correct about getting a mower that is rated for larger areas. We always recommend you do not exceed around 70% of the rated capacity and that is for flat open areas. As soon as you have a few obstacles to navigate around or have separate areas to manage then we advise 50% of the rated capacity. So for your 350m2 I would always recommend going to a mower rated at 700m2 or more. The key things to consider that become a factor for the mower to mow in a reasonable time frame are: Cutting Width, Mower travel speed, Running time per charge and to a lesser extent for mowers under 1000m2 the navigational ability of the mower. So the Gardena and McCulloch both have 17cm cutting width and I believe the travel speed is around 20mt per minute and have a running time of around 1 hour to 1.5 hours. The manual suggest the time required to mow 350m2 is 5 hours per day 5 days a weeks. The M700 Worx Landroid has 18cm cutting width, travel speed of around 25mt per minute and a running time of 2 hours. The auto schedule function predicts the mowing time for 350m2 to be 1.25 hours per day 5 days a week. I would suspect that the recommended duration in the Gardena and McCulloch manuals would already allowed for complex areas. (at least at those times I would hope so) and the estimated time for the Worx is not allowing for complex areas. So if you have a few obstacles in your yard I would expect the Worx to take more like 2 or 2.5 hours per day 5 days a week. Which is still a lot less than the Gardena or McCulloch models. So again with twice the run time, larger cutting width and faster travel. I would take the Worx M700 every day of the week over the Rob 600 or 1000. Plus you get the App control which is great and the option to put other accessories on the mower.

@@robotlawnmowersaustralia7913 Man thank you so much for your replies, I appreciate it a lot. It actually was pointed out in a test that s600 can have too work for 14 hours a day to manage 600sqm which in my case is just about 8h/day of mowing and that's just not an option. This is NOT an easy thing to choose. I'm a bit considered about the ability to handle some small branch here and there and some eventual cone. Do you know if worx is planning an update of the models for 2020 other than the new L-series. They seem a bit overkill in my case :). Thanks again!! 👍🏻👍🏻

I like the new wr147e cause it's blade raises automatically which should help it from getting stuck at least somewhat. 2 front wheels should also be an advantage on the uneven areas perhaps. Hi Rodney, thanks for your thoughts. You need to forget about the process of waiting for your lawn to grow 2 to 5 cm and look untidy before you get the push mower out of the shed to cut your lawn. Robot mowers absolutely cut the grass and can cut longer grass if needed to get the initial length down. However the whole premise of these types of robot mowers are to keep the grass perfectly manicured 365 days a year. Your lawn will alway look like it had just been mowed. The mowers just cut a small amount 1-5mm all the time and mulch the clippings back into your soil. This frequent mowing and self mulching promotes lateral growth so your lawn grows thick and strong. They are great for the health of your lawn and saves you the effort of both owning and using your push mower. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Hi Stretch. Yes the docking station is waterproof and the rain or garden sprinklers will not effect or damage it. We do recommend a cover over the docking station to reduce the amount of direct sunlight the docking station and mower are subject to as the strong UV rays that we receive here in Australia will deteriorate the plastics over time.
