I own both Worx and Husqvarna mowers. Originally bought Worx to do 3/4 acre lawn with hills and uneven areas. The Worx could not quite keep up and so I bought the Husqy that was rated for about 1 acre. Both mowers do a fantastic job but I have to say that the Worx is just not very smart and often gets stuck outside the wire when trying to maneuver a tough spot. The Husqy has been much more plug and play even though it is running without the return to home wire and the layout that was originally installed for the Worx without adjustments made. I am now having issues with the Worx (used in a different/smaller area now) making a good connection with the charger. I will continue to use both machines for different areas but when the Worx dies, I will replace with a Husqy because it is way smarter tech and more heavy duty. Either way, I have a beautiful lawn with no clippings and very little effort. The time I gain and the reduced wear and tear on my body from riding my zero turn are well worth the investment. Husqy owner 1 year and Worx owner 2 years.

My dog got used to the mower very quickly and also the mower has a sensor to detect obstructions and always avoids the dog if she’s snoozing on the lawn. But cleaning up your lawn after your dog is very important as the “poo” is very dangerous to human health if left to rot. My cheap robot does the same job as the Porsche version so I would recommend going down market or getting a more lower cost version as they both do the same job and both have the same internal mechanisms and electrical components that do this job. My tip is get yourself a three year warranty as a must have and this gives you peace of mind if you have $500 mower or a $3000 piece of kit.

I use a Husqvarna 420 with the Automower Connect module and Terrain extra grip wheels to cut a large sloping lawn. The results are splendid and I don’t have to do anything because the mower returns to its base station to recharge automatically and if it rains I can park it whilst I’m in the dry by using my phone. This solution may be more expensive but its hassle free and it handles areas with a steep slope. My lawn which can get very dry in summer actually looks better on the higher cut setting. This device has transformed our garden.

Good review, thanks! I mow the lawn with a 42", 16HP MTD riding mower that I bought 30 years ago for eight or nine hundred bucks. My only maintenance has been to replace the main belt about 3 times and the bags once. And I occasionally sharpen the blades. Mowing the grass atop a mower seems easy to me. The biggest positive to me for the robot mowers is they take up no space in the garage, unlike the MTD. But, like all things electronic, they will get better and cheaper with time and my MTD will one day need replacing. So I could go robotic in the future.

I hope you'll have better luck with the Worx than I did. I decided to give the Worx Landroid M700 a chance, since it came with such impressive features on paper. Wifi, easy to replace battery, rain sensor, edge cutting, and so on. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite useless in my case. It's a 3 wheel setup and the third wheel is upfront, and it would constantly get stuck in every little dip or hole in my lawn. The Mcculloch 600 etc also have 3 wheels, but they have the third wheel at the rear, which makes them much more stable and less prone to getting stuck. The programming on the Worx unit was also very poor, with a lot of bugs. I often found it with the front wheel stuck in a small hole, and the rear wheels constantly spinning, diging down into the lawn. It never tried to back up to get unstuck.. I contacted customer support about it and they admitted it was a bug, and said it would be fixed. I also found that the programming was lacking in several other places. Husqvarna mowers have something called slope control, which minimizes the chance of it getting outside the perimeter in slopes, but the worx unit does not. I bought the worx because it could handle 35% slopes, since I have many slopes in my yard. Unfortunately, this little thing is not very intelligent, and it would often end up getting outside the perimeter whenever the yard was sloping a little bit near the perimeter wire. Unlike Husquarna, when it encounters the perimeter wire it will run the wheels in opposite directions to try and change direction. The problem is that if this happens in a slight slope, it will tend to slip a little bit downwards as it does this maneuver, and that causes it to slide outside the perimeter. It would then shut off, and I would have to constantly go out to rescue it and turn it back on. Husquarna doesn't do this. If it encounters the perimeter wire, it will not attempt to turn while literarily standing on top of the wire, instead, it will back off a couple of feet, and then attempt to turn. With slope control activated, it will also attempt to make a slight turn well before it encounters the perimeter wire, if the gyroscope detects that it's in a downwards slope, to prevent the possibility of it accidentally sliding outside of the perimeter wire the same way the Worx unit does... The worx unit will just run straight down towards the perimeter wire at the end of the slope, until it's standing right on top of it. Then it will attempt to turn, and then slide downwards as it does so until it's outside and stops. Every single time!. Very annoying! It also left lots of tracks on the lawn, since it has no guidewire and no radio signal in the docking station. The worx will always follow the perimeter wire to get home. The problems with that is:: 1. It leaves tracks since it always goes over the exact same path, unlike Husqvarna which makes changes to the path every time to avoid tracks. 2. The yard is often the most uneven near the edges where it needs to go, and it would therefore often get stuck on it's way back to recharge. 3. If it detects an obstacle on it's way back, it will in some cases just back up a bit, then move forward again. Then back up.. move forward again... back up... forward... until it runs out of juice. Other times it will attempt a left turn, and then move back in, but it will some times miss the boundary wire altogether and then it will run all the way to the other side of the yard, and then start following the boundary wire there all the way back to where it came from, and in some cases this would happen several times, causing it to run out of battery. I was less than impressed with the AI on this thing. It's clear to me that Husquvarna has much more refined programming, where they have accounted for a lot of scenarios. In short, the Worx is simply much dumber. Another problem is that the comb (slots) in front, which is supposed to funnel the grass through it, doesn't quite work as intended. It will often catch grass in such a way that it gets stuck, and the unit can't get free. The wheels have very deep tracks so it will quickly dig itself down in the lawn and get even more stuck. I even found it stuck in some dandelions that had been caught by the comb thing in front. and then it just gave up and stopped, and had to be manually restarted. I'm a bit of a tech geek, so of course, I also bought the ACS (ultra sound vision) to have it move out of the way when it detected obstacles on the lawn, such as toys, animals and what not. Unfortunately, it was very sensitive and again, my lawn would be filled with dandelions because it would violently steer away from them where they stuck up from the grass. I also found it to be quite a bit noisier than the Husqvarna. To sum it up: * Terrible programming with a lot of bugs. AI is not very smart, and It often ends up outside the perimeter. * Follows the same path back to the dock every time, so it leaves a lot of tracks on the lawn. * The front wheel gets stuck a lot unless the lawn is 100% even. * Connectivity issues. I often could not connect to it, even if it had a strong signal. * Noisier than the Automower * the comb upfront often get gras tangled up in it, so that it get stuck. * App has very basic features. You can't adjust how far it shall be allowed to move over the boundary wire or anything like that. I couldn't have it complete one full run without having to go outside to rescue it, despite spending days to fine-tweak the perimeter wire and leveling all the uneven parts of the lawn. After a week I gave up and returned the unit and bought myself an automower 310 instead. The automower cost almost twice as much, but it works flawlessly, and that's the whole point with having a mower like this, it should save you some work. It's possible that the worx might work well if you have a very even lawn, with no slopes, and no obstacles or unevenness or bushes or anything like that along the edges of the lawn, where it needs to go to get back to the base station. I had high hopes for the unit, based on the rather impressive specs, but I have to say that I was terribly disappointed. It's sad, because I really liked some of the features such as the weather forecast integration etc, making it not mow if rain is forecast. It could have been a great product, but unfortunately, it has too many bugs and problems and I believe this will only work well in a very simple and even yard. From now on, I will only use Husqvarna mowers (Mcculloch and Gardena are also husquvarna based). Sorry for the long post.

We have an automower, our neighbours have a landroid. I can see their landroid getting stuck sometimes and the tires creating muddy places in the lawn. The neighbour has to go out sometimes looking frustrated. While I can just sit in the house and relax. We have a automower 430x, which is much more cheap than the 450x, it costs like around 2000 dollars. Yes, the automower 430x is still more expensive than their landroid. But I definetely think it is worth it. If you invest, I think it is better to do it good, then to get half a solution which is creating bad places and frustration when your mower is stuck again. If I didnt have the money, I would rather wait and safe a few years, than buying a Landroid!

I never go out to my yard without doggie bags. Most times, I pick it up before the automower gets to it. Sometimes I don't. The mower just smashes it and keeps going!

My lawn is flat and others appear to have issues with slops or undulations. I took the the time to set the boundary wire correctly and since have built up some areas where to flatten them. My lawn has a huge perimeter and very happy with the purchase. Other commenters here that seem to have trouble with Landroid all appear to be using them on slopes. So maybe this mower is better suited for flat areas. Would buy again

Thanks for the comparison video. The “weather timer” on the Husqvarna is a little confusing but not actually for the weather. It takes account of the trimmed grass blades and by their process of cutting it knows the length of them, if the blades are detecting they aren’t cutting as much, they trigger “weather timer” and the Automower goes back to the charger. The Husqvarna feature is more about the growth pattern of the grass than the rain or shine type of weather. The opposite feature to this they have is the “spiral cutting mode” for areas detected with high amounts of growth. When it finds these spots, it marks them on GPS and will always come back there to now more frequently or do spiral cuts focusing its effort on one particular area. I bought my Husqvarna 430X new and although I live in south Florida, it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought. Mine cost $2500 new and the price had reduced. I opted to have the GPS and the Auto-connect switchboard installed for app control. $2500 is less than an old used riding mower and the same price as paying service to do this over course of ~2 years. Just wanted to clarify as you’d mentioned this in your review but compared it to Workx robotic mower. I’ll have mine run in the rain and unless a hurricane knocks my power out, my little fella, named Jerry, is out there 4-6x per week for 3hrs a day. I don’t have to do it, so don’t care how long it takes it to get my lawn mowed just as long as it gets done and looks good all the time. My 430x has now operated for 2+ years. I have 1/4 acre lawn and it easily does this. The mower returns to charger when it’s low battery, approximately 3hrs run time and takes almost exactly 60mins to charge. Pro tip, have mulch around hard structures to eliminate the need to “mow to edge” and have the Automower “drive past wire” feature enabled and set to the appropriate distance. Mine passes the wire by default 8inches. This can be adjusted as needed. Anywhere you have a fence or tree, put the 10inches or so of mulch and your mower won’t have any problem cutting to the edge.

I live in Australia and own a 450X, my auto mower does more than an acre of rough paddock type grass, no manicured lawn here as I live in the country on 14 acres. At first I was skeptical of how it would mow all this unmanicured grass which during summer is limited to weeds of all types with big tufts and heavy stalks and lots of dust and high temperatures, now in winter and down to minus temps we have lots of thick cape weed which is knocked down first with a ride on otherwise it becomes a hard knock like a tree which activates the sensors and won't go over it, at the moment it looks almost like a freshly manicured lawn in places. My mower runs for at least 3 hours at a time and charges for an hour and back out again, seven days a week, 6 am to midnight, rain or shine, it does not need to hide from anything, can mow in the rain if you want them to. It has logged 3346 hrs with 92.4 % cutting time since Feb 2018, the rest is going back to the charging station according to the app, any ride on would have long expired. Work out the cost off running a ride on in that time. The only thing that it has had a problem with is the auto connect board which has been replaced three times under warranty. Here they recently changed the signal for the board from 2G to 3G, the board is made in the UK and costs about $250. It loses the signal and you cannot operate it with your phone but still do all functions manually with the keyboard, not a huge problem but it is good to know what the mower is doing when you are not home and where it is, also if it gets stolen! I have the fitted the wheel brush kit which has recently been replaced with a new set and also the wheel kit with bigger knobs as my ground is not flat. It does get stuck from time to time if the ground is loose or very slippery and it digs a good hole!, but again not ideal conditions so I can't blame it. It would take me about 3 hours to mow all the grass and leave wind rows of grass all over the place, the difference with the automower is amazing. The only other thing is the fence or green wire, I put it on the surface in the the hot summer so it baked on dry patches and was not covered for a long time, this has lead to many breaks in the wire over time, I have since replaced over half of it with new wire as the ground is very soft at the moment and buried most of it with a machine I made from a modified lawn edger not wanting to pay thousands for a specific machine. This is the main achilles heel of this type of machine, finding breaks is sometimes frustrating if the machine did not cause it. I now use a battery powered electric fence energizer and you can hear were the break arcing or you can use multimeter that has a function which picks up the pulse like sensing a live house wire. AM radios don't work here or spark plugs on mowers, I do have the Husqvarna tool but it is hit and miss. I would love the new wire free satellite tech that husqvarna has and with the new 4WD mower, that would be ideal! Anyway, very happy with it for what I put it through. In Australia the 450X costs $4999, the 450X 4WD is $5999 and a TS342 land owner ride on is $5999. I know some people love mowing the lawn, we have lots of holiday property's around here and people come up to sit on there mowers all weekend, I think its sort of like therapy getting away from the city! I have other things to do!

I have installed many of both units. Husqvarna is superior. Is it 2000 better? Thats up to the purchaser. But many of your complaints are improper installation and lack of knowledge. The automower does not have a rain sensor, it uses IFTTT and open source to communicate with weather stations to know if its raining. It will make tracks in front of the charge station over time, but all models do that over time. Also your run time numbers are way off. Husqvarna engineers tell us to expect them to last at least 10 years in the field for budgeting purposes but many have lasted 15+ years.

The 3rd and 4th generation models also perform well when installed correctly. They had some issues with power supplies and wheel motors originally and have revised both of those parts and they are holding up much better now. There were some connectivity issues due to the fact that original boards operated on a 2G network that has gone away in most areas, so Husqvarna offered a free upgrade to a 3G board and now has a 4G board available. Doesn't the Worx leave a perimeter path. My guess is that it will over time. My previous mowers were Robomowers (Heavy and large) and then lawnbott (Tiny and light with spikes wheel) and they both eventually left a significantly more visible path than my 450X and those paths completely circled the lawn. It was a price I was willing to pay but did not really like it and the 450x has an adjustment so that it is not dead on the same return path all the time. Also, Worx swappable battery might be nice if you can think of a need to mow non-stop charging one battery while the mower is out, but outside of that I don't see the value as I expect my li-ion battery housed inside my 450x to stay in place and last at least a couple more years at a minimum (I am currently on my 3rd year). I can certainly understand the limitation of the height cutting of the Automower though. I have Bermuda which I run between setting 3 to 5 (range is 1 to 10). I think that height cutting limitation is how I scored a great deal on my mower when it was new because I bought it from a northern dealer that bought a truck load of them and they did not move as fast as he had hoped. Lucky me. Love my 450X. Can't imagine any other way to mow. Perfect Bermuda lawn 100% of the time.

I have replaced my old Landroid because of faulty front sensor (bought it 2nd hand, it's over 6 years old) and replaced it with the M500 (with ACS module). It's working perfectly and I can already see the M500 is of even better build quality. It mows over 300m² of grass here no problems. I have a Worx. The main problem with this mower is that it has to follow the " boundary wire" (is that the correct name) when going back to the dock. Husqvarna uses a guide cable. Always following the "boundary wire" creates track marks in your lawn at best and trenches if you are unlucky. I'm buying a Husqvarna for this season.

I have the same problem, i write to the services but I wrote to the producer but they say that this is the first time they have such a notification, which of course I do not believe. I asked for a software modification to make the landroid return at different distances from the cable to the base. If so, all the owners have done it, maybe they will reprogram it, but if people are losing it, unfortunately the prolem will remain and if the news spreads, the landroid project will cease to exist due to the lack of willingness to buy.

To those that comment on hiring a service to compare to the cost of the Automower: I have used robotic mowers for a bit more than a decade. I got each of mine for a very good price. Each one was sold used when I upgraded. And I never expect my current Automower's value to go to zero. As far as the service is concerned, my neighbors and many others on my street have a service. They will spend what I did easily in a three to four year period. So, my Automower is paid off by next year at retail cost (I didn't pay retail). More importantly, my lawn puts their to shame because it looks "just mowed" 100% of the time.

We are also in Michigan and have very thick KBG (new sod last year). I really like the idea of an Automower, but nearly all the videos show thinner grass or cutting at shorter heights (since many automowers have max heights of 2.5" or so). We'd like to keep the KBG at 3" - 3.5" in the summer. My EGO electric mower does not have the power (lift?) to make the grass stand up then get an even cut. I'm concerned the robo mowers will suffer even more from this and the cut will not be even in a tall thick KBG lawn. The Worx has the fins that may help with this. Any experience/video/pics that could help understand performance in this scenario? Any chance an automower can cut as evenly as a Honda HRX top spec gas walk behind? I'm looking for max cut quality and evenness.

No way that a 450X is only mowing for 1.5 - 2 hours before having to go recharge! a 430X (1 battery) usually mows for close to 4 hours before needing to recharge. A 450X (2 batteries) mows at a faster speed if the ultrasonic sensors are on, and will mow for 4 - 4.5 hours before needing to recharge. And if you are getting tracks through your lawn then you obviously have it set up wrong since it has multiple ways to find its way back to the charging station. Even if it is using the same guide wire multiple times, it will vary how close it travels to the guide wire to avoid tracking. Nearly every flaw you are mentioning points more and more to this mower just not being installed and set up properly. I can tell you from a TON of first hand experience that there are several other reasons that you could've used to not choose the Automower. But after seeing that pic of your lawn and the lay out, the reasons you are giving make no sense unless it just wasn't installed and set up properly. This new version of the Landroid is going to be a pretty solid unit for the price and will take market share from the Automowers based simply on price alone. The problem they are going to have though is with warranty repairs and parts. There are way more Automower dealers in the US than there are dealers for Worx. And even with all of the Automower dealers that Husqvarna has and all the training classes they have done, they still have a HUGE shortage of good qualified servicing dealers. So with Worx having even less support or places to go to for parts, it will be a little while until they really take off. Hopefully they do not get lost in the HUGE wave of other robotic mowers that will be coming out from many other OEMs over the next year or 2. Either way, the real winners in the robotic mower wars will be us consumers because all of this competition will help drive prices down and make more models readily available in more areas as time goes by.

I liked your first video regarding the Husqvarna auto mower it was simple, direct and unbiased. But no way can you compare the H-450 to the Worx automower. There are soooo many more features the H-450 has, it's like comparing a Cadillac to a ford Fiesta and concluding by saying "for cheap reliable transportation get a Ford Fiesta." A Husqvarna 310 Robotic Auto Mower goes for around $1,299. That is what you should be comparing it to. Come on, be real and compare apples to apples otherwise you confuse newbies.

I don't think the comparison is unreasonable. He's basically saying that to perform the function of mowing the lawn, the Worx Landroid is less expensive and has features that better fit his needs. When I was mower shopping, I didn't know much. I fell into the misguided thinking of "more expensive means that it is better". As an engineer, I should have known better. Fortunately, the Landroid went on sale. I bought it thinking I would upgrade to the more expensive product later. Turns out, I'm completely happy with my purchase. @@asicengineer I guess if we pretend the other reasons besides the price were not in this video, then y'all would be correct. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Some of the features he liked included the positioning of the blade and the tires having less impact on the lawn. It's perfectly fine to like the lessor of the products. What I'm hearing you say is that if price was taken out of the equation, then the Husqvarna is the better mower. As such, y'all feel it's not appropriate for the author of this video to enjoy the features of the Worx more. That's a weird stance, right? I'll give you an example that would make people mad. I prefer my $300 Nintendo Switch over a $4,000 gaming PC. It's not the price, but it's the fact that the function of the Switch and its selection of games are more to my taste. I agree. Especially if he's now into around $4500 for both units. And you had to run all those silly wires. Plus a lawn service would be doing the trimming without the need for chemicals. I don't expect any of these robotic units to last all that long. And by long I mean getting 5-10 years use out of them which is what I would expect a $3500 lawn mower to last at a minimum. I suspect that for no other reason than advances in technology you will be buying a new one of these every 5 years at least. But it's more likely that something that's cost prohibitive to fix will happen before you ever reach 10 years. Not everyone with a pet is going to keep their yard perfectly clean. I can only imagine what the underside would look like the first time it runs through a big steaming pile of Rover's tootsie rolls or some gift that the neighbor's dog or wild animal left. I don't have any pets and my riding mower is always getting the tread on the tires packed with various types of gooey fun from wild animals that pass in the night and leave presents.

We've been running the low cut Husqvarnas for several years and the low cut grass stays greener in heat and drought than the 3 1/2 inch cut grass. Your comments on the "internet weather" is incorrect. That is not how Husqvarna operates... About the batteries. The Worx batteries end up being more expensive. The Husqvarna batteries last for years and years. And if they do go out it's simply a few dollars for a new pack. And about breakdowns, Husqvarnas bought through a local dealer will be supported for years. Dealers take good care of them and they'll last much longer than that Worx. So buying a $3500 mower that last for years and years ends up cheaper than buying 4 or 5 mowers that cost $900 in the same amount of years.

Yes it does all of that I own the WR140, it just doesn't show the mowed patterns where it has mowed but it does have an alarm and you can start and stop the mower in the app as well as set Zones up to 4 zones as well as manually set mow times or let auto set itself, it also updates firmware automatically via connected WIFI so your mower will always be up to date.

It would be nice if you could first try a robot mower before buying. I really cant decide between the husqvarna and the landroid. Landroid because it goes really close to edges, my whole yard is surrounded with fences. But husqvarna has way more experience in the field and i think is more reliable than the landroid. Help me decide! 😁

There is the advantage of having the 3 wheels and that's stability over any terrain it goes over. With the 4 wheels if the mower encounters a small obstacle it has to drive over it goes into a rocking motion. That's why Tripods are inherently stable on any uneven surface.
@WorkshopAddict

Right, but if the front wheel hits a sunken sprinkler head, the height of the grass that is cut will lower.

I have the Worx Landroid L, which does 1/2 an acre and mows up to 4 inches. I have turf type tall fescue, so it was very important that the mower cut at 4 inches. Either it could do 4 inches, or I wouldn't buy it. The Landrooid isn't perfect by a longshot, although I still like it. At least once a day, it crosses the boundary wire and stops. It's not smart enough to say, "Hmmm...a second ago I was in the boundary. Let me back up half a foot and see if I find it.". A software update should easily fix this. It's pretty good with hills, as my lawn isn't perfectly flat. It's never had an issue with moderately steep hills. Surprisingly, however, it's gotten stuck in soft dirt where it will just spin its wheels and think that it's moving. It's not smart enough to realize when its wheels are spinning but it's not actually moving. This brings me to my next point. All four wheels should spin. This would allow it to not get stuck, which happens at least once every two days. Fine if you're working from home like I am right now. I get up, save it and it keeps going. But ideally, you'd like to be able to have this run for weeks on end without any intervention. Four wheel drive would go a LONG way toward fixing this. There are other things I'd like to say, but don't want this to be super long. Long story short, these devices aren't perfect.

I can understand using Husqvarna for commercial sites, golf courses etc, but its features are probably more than what an average person needs. I’d rather purchase 2x Landroid than a single Husqvarna for the prices they’re at now. The user replaceable battery on Worx is a win! If you want a faster initial cut for the season, just have an extra battery ready.

What about the 315X? $2000.00. The 450X is for 1.25 acres and the WR140 only cuts up to .25 acres. This is like comparing a Ford F150 to a Ford F350. Both great mowers as we use both of them.

Just wanted to say: had a problem with Landroid after rinsing the wheels with water. The keyboard stopped working. Remedy: REMOVE the battery IMMEDIATELY so that no more electricity flows and wait until everything has dried up. Then we went again. Recommendation; be careful when rinsing, especially from below. The keyboard connector should not be adequately protected against water. I will look at it when the opportunity arises and seal it accordingly.
