Robot Wars: Extreme - Episode 8

After an incredible Annihilator, attention turns back to other tournaments, with an All-Stars clash between Stinger and Pussycat being the main attraction in this episode. We also see if Razer can progress past Gemini in the same tournament, while rivals 101 and King B Powerworks tussle again.

Poor Sgt. Bash ended up in the pit at the end of the 101 vs King B Powerworks battle. It's very rare to see a House Robot end up in the pit.

Now that I think about it, that may have been intentional. King B was clearly out of control and Sgt. Bash could've been parked on top of them in order to pin them in place when they raised the Pit back up. That way, King B wouldn't take off when they came in to shut it down.

Christ.. Fighting Torque was such a massive downgrade from its predecessors. What on earth made them shift from a nimble, powerful, low-built robot that could work both ways up... to an ineffective, chunky target that was instantly immobilised by being flipped?

For those wondering why Mousetrap's weapon didn't work throughout the whole fight, it malfunctioned. If you wondered why the robot fired it's weapon it wasn't from the team activating it, it activated on it's own.

Really good battles in this episode of extreme, what with Razer and Gemini which is always a great battle to watch, though the "main event" with Pussycat vs Stinger wasn't really worth it as the "main attraction" of the episode. Atomic II was great in their fight, though tbh their opponents weren't really very good let's be honest. Tag Team Terror was always going to be one sided with Napalm in the cards, it's just really not a great robot! 101 vs King Buxton was great though, but it was obviously going to be 101 who won because it's just such a good robot.

Pussycat v Stinger was a good fight. Could have, perhaps should have been the grand final in series 4.

The House robots for Razer vs Gemini are actually Sir Killalot and Matilda. Shunt is not there. Hypno-Disc are not into the All Stars Quarterfinals. They went out in the first round against Behemoth fair and square. Behemoth is in the All stars Quarterfinals.

I don't get why Pussycat vs Stinger was hyped up as the main event when really it would've made more sense for Razer vs Gemini. The latter two were the ones that had similarities to them to talk about on camera; they were the robots that won the Pinball Warrior Tournament, as well as previous winners of the Best Design Award. And speaking of Razer vs Gemini, what were Mentorn thinking cutting out the true ending to the battle when it would've been a spectacle for viewers?! I copied and pasted this from the Robot Wars Wiki page... *"As Razer drove over the floor flipper, it activated, throwing the World Champion upwards and damaging its front wedge as it landed on the closing flipper panel. Its mobility now compromised, Razer was still about to grab hold of one half of Gemini by the flipping mechanism and attempted to crush it. However, the captured twin fired its flipper in an attempt to fend off the attack and, under the severe pressure, Razer's hydraulics burst, immobilising the entire robot. Because the flipper was only meant to be used on immobilised robots, the judges stopped the fight and judged it up until the flipper had been used, giving the win to Razer. The incident was edited out when the fight was shown on TV."* I understand the officials stepping in to put that error right when the floor flipper wasn't supposed to activate at that moment, much less contribute towards immobility, but it wouldn't have been the first time they had an error on screen to be sorted out with explanations, would it?

I read that Bigger Brother was supposed to enter the Mayhem but it had sustained damage form a 5th wars bout and Atomic 2 took it's place.

Because it was destroyed beyond repair...and barely functioned as the team wanted.

Napalm has never been good. In the first couple of wars they did ok because despite their terrible weaponry and awful armour, they were pretty reliable in comparison to the robots of the time. The problem was that they never really updated the robot so by the time they got to Extreme, they were one of the slowest, weakest, and flimsiest robots around. They were always a fun team though.

SPOILER Pussycat did the damage, but stinger's control was absolutely fantastic if you look how well aimed the strikes were despite the nature of the machine. I feel that should have been Stinger's match on grounds of style and control, aggression was equal, and the damage to stinger hardly affected their function

Not only that, but I think Pussycat vs Stinger was the wrong one of the two All-Stars battles in this episode to be its main event, let alone be as hyped as such. Razer and Gemini deserved it more, since they were two unique robots that were the only Best Design Award winners at that time (aside from Plunderbird) and were the only two machines to win the Pinball Warrior Tournament. Plus, there was Razer's unseen accident that was edited out of the battle because of it not counting against them, although I don't see why that was a reason to edit it out at all when it still would've made for good television, even though I agree with it not counting against Razer. What made Pussycat vs Stinger so special on paper by comparison? I think the two battles were positioned the wrong way round.

Razer vs Gemini - that'll be interesting. Can't remember if immobilising half of Gemini counts as a win. But Gemini weren't quick enough to avoid damage. I wish the producers had dropped the stupid idea of making the teams boast and trash-talk each other like a pathetic imitation of the wrestling, only with a worse script. Plunderbird and Chromalot could do it, almost nobody else could. None of this melodramatic BS conveys any useful information about the robots, at least on KZbin you can fast forward past it. King B and 101 are a remarkably similar pair of robots. And it was a very close fight until King B lost control. The tag match, Steel Avenger was the only capable bot in it. Possibly also Suicidal Tendencies. Ho hum. The 'Mayhem' - I seem to recall Atomic has a useful flipper. Don't rate the other two much. And Atomic promptly proved just how useful its flipper is, repeatedly. I think it was having fun. Pussycat vs Stinger - two fast, bouncy, hard-to-hit, very reliable robots. Maybe this will be down to who breaks down first. - which neither did. But I think Pussycat was better controlled and made more successful attacks throughout. JP's 'commentary' bears very little relation to what we're seeing. Was he watching the same fight?
