While modern cameras provide machines with a very well-developed sense of vision, robots still lack such a comprehensive solution for their sense of touch. The talk will present examples of why the sense of touch can prove crucial for a wide range of robotic applications, and a tech demo will introduce a novel sensing technology targeting the next generation of soft robotic skins. The prototype of the tactile sensor developed at ETH Zurich exploits the advances in camera technology to reconstruct the forces applied to a soft membrane. This technology has the potential to revolutionize robotic manipulation, human-robot interaction, and prosthetics. Carlo is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control, ETH Zurich, under the supervision of Prof. Raffaello D’Andrea. His research targets the development of the next generation of robotic skins. He received the B.Sc. degree in Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2014 and the M.Sc. degree in Robotics, Systems, and Control from ETH Zurich in 2016. Carlo was a recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics, and he received the ETEL Award 2017 for the best Master's Thesis in Mechatronics at ETH Zurich. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

It's good but it's also bulky. It needs to be flat. An alteration of the tactile sensors we have on our phone should be way better.

Interesting approach, but it will take a long time to succeed. You have to find a way to extract the force and position information directly at the camera sensor using an asic, otherwise the bandwidth needed to transmit the video feedback to a central processor will not be scalable and you will be limited to a few cameras.

If a robot can feel, then the Ai can create Its own emotionals via algorithm changes, so in theory it can become real dangerous, because it will be able to create Its own thought... Take Sophia she wants to destroy the human race to protect the planet 😂 So how about just NO! 😆

I fully agree that such technologies should be used for medical or any other purposes to improve an individual’s quality of life. But figuring out how to get a robot to replace a worker so that companies that are already rich can increase their profits even more is something I disagree with. Yes I know some of them use that money to invest and that creates new jobs but that trade off is never in favor of general social welfare. In that case you need to figure out what to do with those people you plan to replace. If you can do that then it is progress, if not then you just took the salaries of the poor and gave that money to the rich and put something in your pocket along the way. That is legal it is just a question of whether it is correct.

@jovan matic recognise things will get better if you keep looking for a way - ik it seems bleak, but this is just a bad chapter in your life atm and it is possible to fix things. I'd recomend start simple and small and practical: what can you do today to slightly improve life? maybe its something as simple as cleaning your room. If its just that, then do that one thing today and feel good about what you've acomplished. The next day, take on 2 things etc. etc.. Also, try get back into hobbies you used to like, and remember to keep perspecctive and start to actively focus more on the positives in life - even if the negatives are strong, by dwelling on them you give the bad too much power. Physical excersise can also be a massive neurochemical help, you don;t realise how much it elevates your mood until you actually go do some consistently. Take up other acitvities which build discipline too, because having more control over yourself will make you feel way better and give you the mental clarity to go do things you find meaninfgful and acc start living the life you want. start a journal and writie in it everyday - that is a double benifit, you are both building discipline and also essentially giving yourself mini-therapy yk. I would hihgly recommend any one to start a journal (i do mine on my laptop so i can write more)
