oh yeah well I use lamp cord with the on off wheel in the middle for my power cord. So I can turn the subs on and off quickly. But the wire keeps starting on fire. Last time It caught on fire I had to use my bear hand to disconnect it from the battery. Anyway I always go to goodwill that's where, I source my power wire from I just go in and clip the power cord off of lamps & chandeliers. It's really a pain when it starts on fire and I burn my hand now I have a a power wire mark in my palm. Its infected too.

Thank you for your comment. I agree that he does help people take out the mystery on what an amp does. I do appreciate it. I've even liked some of the discoveries he's found like Ignite. The video was really just about what does bug me. I'm sure that Mr. Wizz will appreciate the feedback. I really wanted to just hold him accountable for his platform. I think he can do better and has the tools, support and funding to do so. I just don't agree with some of the judgments he makes about specific features that really don't effect performance is all. I respect that it's his opinion, I just wanted to air out mine.

@@alexandermelgar1767 There are many reasons. It's a very brave and dangerous thing to offer a product that looks like it offers less and is 2x the price. That's what JL does. The marketing they've done is to sell status. Many people buy into the illusion of status. That's why the price of used BMW's go for so much. It's a Ponzi scheme. The last guy to own that 2002 5 series is going to take it to the grave because he desires status but is too broke to buy something else and he's not reasonable so he'll pay $10k for it rather than a boring old 2018 Camry that will last 350,000 miles.. The other reason brands will lie about is the desire for performance. If there are two head units, Kenwood vs Pioneer with the same features but one says 40wx4 and the other says 320w total... Which one is better? Both are lying because each head unit is fused at 10A and use the same chipsets. But if you want your units to move, they have to seem better than the other guy.

You certainly have an interesting perspective. I've always taken his use of that lingo and puns as a reflection of the time from the '80s and '90s when car audio was new to the masses. More or less a reflection of what trends he grew up with as well as people in his age group (myself included). I can't speak for you cuz I don't know how long you've been watching him but he did start out as Old Skool Stereo. His channel was originally focused on exactly what I wrote about earlier; car audio equipment from the '80s and '90s. More of a nostalgia channel. Keep in mind, I'm not defending him as I'm sure he's capable of doing that himself. But even as much as you claim he waved his finger at that company perhaps take into consideration he's aware that company is no longer around, so any criticism is irrelevant. It's not as if that company is going to suffer from his criticism. On the contrary, you're doing the same thing to him. I will end my post with this comment, hate the game not the player. You kind of touched on it but he has an audience which he has to cater to if he wants to make money. He's doing what they like so they're as much to blame as he is. 🤷

I've been into car audio a long time just doing my own installs and have learned alot since my first setup. I try to stay humble in the fact that I can always learn something new. You claim to be teaching others but yet on the videos I've watched of your channel, I havent learned anything except some colorful language, and you bragging about how your stuff is better than let's say JL Audio. In my opinion I think your a little butthurt he didn't do a review video on the stuff you sent him. Your storytime videos is you just bashing others and maybe some slight bit of information on the company history. Realize that a majority of people could care less of the history of how each company did this and did that. Most people care about the price tag vs what they are getting at the end of the day and I feel Dereck is providing that info to those who don't know. I follow a woodworking channel here on KZbin and you and him sound extremely similar in that the techy engineer kinda way you make fun of some things. Just my opinion on this matter. Good luck in the future.

Many markets will call themselves a flea market by putting it in their name such as the Pasadena Indoor Flea Market . There is nothing negative or derogatory about the name/term.

Well, as a nobody-man child(audio is just one of my many man child hobbies), I've supported this scene since the beginning, when pullouts, vanilla ice, 4 head vhs players were the shit! Lol! I understand your take, and there's a lot I agree with, and Derick IS a part of the hustle of today's audio scene. He is in one way, helping the audio community, by sharing all the data he gathers, but I know he makes sure to pander to the d4s crowd(kids can't get enough of the cult), and the expensive brands they push. I see a lot of severely overpriced stuff, that's not much better than what we had 10-15 years ago, and even under performing equipment, for the exorbitant price. All in fair game, power is way cheaper than back then, lots of people interested in having something we could only dream about in the 80's and 90's. Lots of people that don't know how to get value for their $. I've spent a lot of $ myself, but started getting another perspective with your input from these videos. It's probably saved me more than I know. Been following you for a decade now at least, and appreciate what you do. I think your strait up, you tell it like it is, and you don't give a fuck. It's a good quality. It's why I've stuck. Always providing your knowledge and helping people. It's a great thing. You truly help people. On the same hand however... Derick IS a stand up guy, and does good business from my personal experience. Recently purchased a 17 year old Rockford fosgate amp(t3002), brand new, in the factory wrap and box still, for a pretty damn good deal. Paid the man, he sent it out in a timely fashion, the next day actually, and I am impressed with the transaction. I would have never found another to match the one I have, without his help, and he did me solid. He's saved me $ and time as well, knowing what to buy for a few local small builds, which typically involve a smaller budget. I WILL say this... You both have contributed more to car audio than I ever will, and have saved endless people a lot of time and $(myself included), and I thank you BOTH, for what you do for the people, and I will continue to watch and have nothing but good things to say about y'all.

I'm sorry, but I don't entirely understand this video. Your point on him with "black culture" for example. From what I've seen of the guy, it looks like he probably grew up around a lot of that stuff and I would guess the people he hung out with as a younger person just talked like that. He probably uses things like "do it bump doe" and "erry day" because he enjoyed talking with slang like that with his friends in the past. It's just his personality and I don't think it harms anyone. I don't think he's doing anything harmful towards the black community by using basic slang. To say that words and phrases like that should be limited to one race of people is in itself racist in a way. Just to me I really never took it in any sort of racist way, I never saw it as him doing that to be negative towards anyone or any group. Your other point, and I know it was partially a joke, but it still struck me as a bit stupid. He's wrong for criticizing amp companies on false ratings because of child labor? If anything this is further proof that amp companies should be called out more. It's pretty scummy that these huge amp companies sell amplifiers that are basically e-waste out of the box, and that they may actually have little kids and underpaid workers in general producing them. When Big D criticizes these amps for not doing their rated power and being a scam, he's not pointing the blame at the people who manufactured it, he's pointing the blame at the company who marketed and sold the product. These companies get their profits by preying on the folks who don't know any better, the people who see "1200 watts" on a box and want to buy the product. These same people who then install the amplifier in their car, turn it all on, and 9 out of 10 times are completely disappointed. Then these cheap amplifiers get put on a shelf to collect dust or are thrown into the garbage. There would be significantly less e-waste in our landfill if these scummy companies weren't out here selling products that are worthless right out of the box. The point behind channels like Big D has always been to call out these products so that people who don't know any better don't get scammed. I don't at all see how we should feel bad for these companies. They chose to make products with purposefully misleading ratings, all people like Big D do is show the truth. And no, I don't think it's at all easy running a company, quite the opposite for sure. But to me, that just doesn't justify scamming people to sell your product. Lastly, I do agree that your "name brand" companies do plenty of scummy things too, but there's a pretty clear line that I see between them vs "off brands". The way I see an amplifier, is as a product that is intended to produce a certain amount of power at a reasonable quality for your speakers to function from. If a company sells me a "1500 watt monoblock amplifier", and it produces 1600 watts instead, I don't really see that as a scam. The amplifier promised to deliver me a certain good (the power in this case), and it produced more. It's like if I order a 10 count chicken nugget meal and I get 12 nuggets in the box, I'm not gonna be upset. If it really bothers me, I'll just not eat the extra nuggets. Whereas if I order a product and get significantly less than what I was promised, I'm gonna be bothered by that. And that is the clear difference that you are going to be seeing between the "name brands" and the "off brands" 99% of the time. There's a reason companies like Skar Audio came out of seemingly nowhere and were basically considered a name brand within no time, because their products do what they say they do. Overall, there's a lot of good and bad points in this video I'd say. A lot that could be discussed here. I do agree with many of your points, such as Derick manipulating his videos/channel in such a way to earn more money. Or how he may point out details on some products that make no difference (and as you said are things MANY high end brands do as well). All of these and more I do agree with, I just think it's unfair to the guy to possibly point him out as being racist in any way. That sort of stuff can very easily make someone look terrible, when their intents may not be negative at all. It really just seemed like you had to stretch to make that point and I don't agree with it, as I went over a bit in the beginning of my comment. Maybe you can possibly explain a bit more on that one, and I'm open to that discussion.

China's aim is to an audience that doesn't know any better. I even mention right before that, (if you listen), that it's racist on the part of China. But when Chinese people are racist, nobody cares. Only when people think white people are being racist do idiots get mad. What you may not consider is that in many larger markets like the West Coast, Vegas and here in Phoenix, that would be Spanish speakers that do not know any better. Many times these people are know as Paisa which means, "Countrymen". People that are not as educated in a formal sense.

I feel like Derek is just taking the mystery out of car audio wattage ratings for the average consumer, that is clueless the numbers are all fluff. It's more about expectations than actuality.. I look at it as a watts per dollar thing. Like amp "A" is giving me 500 w for $200 , amp "B" is giving me 600w for $150.... even though let's say they're both stamped with 3K.. He actually had and ignite amp that you recommended on the dyno, and I was rather impressed with the numbers. Amp dynos are really the only reason I watch his channel.

partly penny pinching, and partly because audio is often pretty low on the list of things a car manufacturer thinks is important. A plastic or thin stamped steel speaker basket weighs less and costs less to make than a cast aluminum or heavy steel basket. Light weight in a car=faster/more fuel efficient.

Not sure if you're aware (I mean I kind of get the impression you are), but the reason they're called flea market amps is because that's exactly where they are sold - at flea markets. Yes at actual businesses / shopping complexes that are named flea markets. They're not called swap meets they're not called shopping centers they are called flea markets. There happens to be 4 in my city that actually come up on Google search. I could care less about Big D but when he says that, he's calling the amplifier exactly what they are which is flea market amps. If he purchases an amplifier from Walmart or a swap meet then yes he should call said amp either a Walmart amp or a swap meet amp but in this case he's calling flea market amps flea market amps🤷

i really havent went out and got anything i couldnt get when i was younger but i saved a lot of the old things i had. anything that really stood out. that being said im looking for another mm.4000 and a jbl bpx2200 because those were both great amps imho and they were stolen from me a while back. i have found a close replacement for the mm4000 from a chinese buildhouse but large strong 2 channels just arent that popular now. found a number of new amps that will do the same power at 4 ohms as the jbl which is cool. many are full bridge like many of the old jbls were. anyways i like these particular amps because of the flexibility they offer. i dont really care for wiring down to low ohms often prefer series and these allow me to do that anyways i do like rebuilding these old subs people collect though some were pretty cool

Watching your videos have really humbled me I'm a audio junkie I love the work u do on reclaimed subs I not sure if that's the word I want to use reclaim I think it would be better to say ur an artist when it comes to that nature of ur work and I really love to see all the different combinations of parts come together when the art work is done I'm really going to make effort to get some of ur subs and unbranded amps I just got to get my shit together I dig ur positive out look and how much u try to do the right things with what u are doing and how u go about doing it and u make me stop sometimes and make me aware of my own actions and veiws I have or say and make think about shit in general about life and correct me and my response to things about life for the better and a positive out come for all brother . I think you’re off the mark here dude. I love that you pull-no-punches, have no scared cows and are willing to levy criticism wherever you think it’s due. You obviously have very thick skin and do not suffer fools at all. Genuine virtues, unlike the woke crap the NPCs think are virtues (ie. fake empathy). But we can get lost in how we define ourselves. And some of the criticism you levy at Derek can be levied at you. I won’t list them because it’s “just,like, my opinion man”. Okay, he might have disrespected the relationship you two had. But I doubt it was intentional. He really doesn’t seem the type. But it does seem like you’ve taken it personally and, instead of speaking to him about what you think he did wrong, have let it fester and then decided to air it in a surreptitious way. If I’m wrong and you think the faults you describe of his are bad-practices common in the industry,then why name him? All the things you criticise in this video can still be made without naming him. Man you are right about amp ratings. It is really messed up that an amp that does rated power is considered a good amp, and an amp does more than rated is considered a good amp. Amplifiers have become commodities. Most brands are getting them from the same small number of factories. If I brand X has a 1,000 watt amp with 1,200 Watts slapped on the side for $300 and brand Y sells the same amp with 800 watts slapped on the side for $400 then who is the real scammer?

On the flip side, the 4,000 watt one he tested didnt push anywhere near its ratings, but still was one hell of a bargain when it comes to watts per dollar. So in my opinion it really boils down to watts per dollar and value. A 10,000 watt amp that pushes 3,000 true watts but costs 200 dollars is actually a great value despite falling very short of its ratings.

I do enjoy Derek's videos just because I like to see how the amps stack up, is resistive load realistic no but it is a way to compare. Output to one or another and it's nice the difference of the board. But I really enjoy your channel... I love your sub run downs, but I like how you have a wide content, plus I respect your craft I now know what goes into a build and pounding out one after another at that pace is not easy. Besides what other person in car audio talks about hand jobs well other than Doug Bernards he's has no filter either and I love it... ✌️

I'm black and am not even remotely offended by his "cultural appropriation" as you call it. The statement about "how stupid the market is" has to be the dumbest thing you could've said. On another note... You are correct on how car audio companies rob their consumers....you are correct, PEOPLE ARE DUMB... Alot of these companies are focused at NEW AUDIO HEADS and will win them on false specs like 5k watts when it's only 500 watts ... I fell for it many years ago but learned quick... Jl audio is based in Florida and almost everything is in house is why they raised their prices ... I like jl audio but I won't buy any of their stuff ...
