Guilliman is one of my favorite Primarchs because of the situation he is in. he is the most competent leader of all primarchs... be he's also the one both loyal as hell, but able to realize that he needs to work within a system that he might not like....he's the ONLY primarch that could handle the Imperium as it is standing, and he HATES IT. He is a man who PERFECTED being good at as much as possible but not PERFECT at any one thing, forced to lead an ungodly disaster that he HATES, that SUCKS at most things and worships him as something that he has fought against forever. He was never the best warrior, but he is the only Primarch that is strong enough mentally to push back against the ENTIRE culture that he is suppose to be leading to try change its direction

I always liked him to this great Boyscout. Sort of Captain America on a Galactic scale. But as I read more I began to feel pity for him. He is clearly his Father's son but so much more than that. He was the ONLY Primarch that could have pulled any of this off. And he did it not to please his Father. But to prove to himself he was just a soldier.

Yep, the emperor made Roboute into an eternal slave of his own conscience: A slave forced and betrayed to fight against all odds in a war he did not chose for eternity because the only alternative is eventual extinction of the species. All while having to endure a lie that goes against every moral fiber of his being, for greater good. This is what makes him the ultimate hero. It's a perfecly crafted tragedy.

@@pedropierre9594 I'd say to Roboute fulfiling his duty to not let humanity die is as much a choice as for a loving parent caring about a child that would otherwise die is a choice. It is precisely that one who is truly dutiful has no choice at all because chosing to fail is unthinkable. Now scale those odds of parent letting his child die to letting humanity and everything he ever cared for die but having to labor for potentially all eternity to prevent it.

@@bolojohnson711 I am. I have my gaze pointed in that direction already. There will probably be an Ork video before I’m done with primarchs, and working on a Biel-Tan Eldar video as well. I collect about twelve different factions and follow the lore of all of them, so definitely love some Tau, Necrons, Orks, Chaos…honestly I love every faction and want to do deep dives on them all.

I used to think the Lion and Alpharius were the only interesting ones. But then the Horus Heresy books came out and I see that every one of them is absolutely awesome if given the right treatment by the writer.

I'd say Ultramar is Roman in theme, but the Imperium of Man overall seems closer to the Byzantine Empire...but yeah, Guilliman is actually awesome (although it took me decades to come around on this).
