The 7D2 also let's you choose a minimum and maximum ISO, so you can use it in auto. I have set my max to 3200
@kristianvrum89795 ай бұрын
I've actually set mine to 6400, even though I don't want to go higher than 3200. The camera is then set to Auto ISO, and when I shoot I always keep an eye on the ISO, and if it goes up to 6400, I know Ihave to change shutter speed or aperture to get down to 3200. This means that the camera will always use the lowest possible ISO under normal lighting conditions, but if it's too dark I'l still be able to get the shot, albeit with an ISO that is a tad higher than what I'd like to use.

I just recently purchased the 7D Mark ii and upgraded from my Rebel XS. Your videos are super informative for me being an enthusiast. Thank you for your time you put into these videos.
Really glad to have found this post! Just the other day, I decided to trade in my beloved 7D, and pick up a 7D Mk II instead, which showed up yesterday. I updated the firmware, changed a few custom settings to the way I had them on the 7D, and took a few test shots. Really looking forward to implementing some of the things you talk about here! In my own experience, I've found that shutter priority (Tv) is good; setting the speed at 1/1600, with auto ISO, and a fairly large AF field. (It works well for birds in flight during the daytime, anyway; not sure how this would work at a football match.) I like your point about setting ISO and I'll be interested to try it out.

Constantly still use my 7D2. car shows mainly for the track stuff like the racing and drifting. Use my eos R for the stills

While I don't use it anymore, I have used the 7Dmkii for work for many years and still love it! I said this before though, you HAVE to be more specific than saying "sports". I shoot youth volleyball, and your settings do not always work for that. Also, certain horse shows like steeplechasing would be best to shoot at a narrower aperture for more DOF (depth of field).

not sure if you will see this but can you tell me general settings for youth volleyball with the 7d mii? shooting my niece's vb game today.
@SJHFoto Жыл бұрын
@@riflegurlsmom Hello! Assuming this is high school volleyball, I would shoot no slower than 1/800sec Hopefully you have a 2.8 lens. If possible, don't go over ISO 8000, but if you have to choose one or the other, higher noise levels look better than motion blur. If it is a middle school game, you might be able to "get away with" 1/640sec. What lens(es) do you use? Also, I typically bring an unused coffee filter to do a custom white balance in the gym for the best colours (Yellowish orangey tints are a bane of gymnasiums!) I have a flickr photostream with the same name (the name of my company) Have a look if you wish-we are doing tons of girls volleyball at the moment, so hopefully something there will help

Bright sun race cars at 200+ MPH - close that aperture a bit 2.8 will be blown out. Play with it, I am often at 8 or 10. 1/1000 even 1/800 is not going to produce desired results w bokeh background and "spin" on the tire sidewalls. More like 1/500. YMMV. As always, play with it. : ) 100-400 L is a great lens for it.

The 7D2 was always my go to camera with the 100-400. Something malfunctioned not able to get sharp photos. I put it on the shelf for over a year now waiting for an upgrade model. I am not sure if I am 100% sold on the R7 so decided I will send my 7D2 in for servicing thanks to this video. Thank you. I will now wait for the R7mark2 lol

@@angelogarciajr5356 I assume you don't do sports as a full-time job? If you do, you can register with Canon and get a repair discount (I think the 7Dii is still included in that)

@@SJHFoto I do shoot sports full time, but I never heard of that? I know there is a plan you pay for that accepts a couple cameras on the plan, but no info about sport shooter discounts. Maybe I will call them. Thanks.

Great video. I'd love my 7D2 when I started out. Passed it on to my son 😛as I use 1DX and R6. Might get him a 17-55mm f/2.8 as he uses it for Vlogging, so I can get my 17-40mm back 😜

While I loved this vid, and discovered also a similar auto iso sweet spot, I'd love for a followup on AF/centerpoint/field selections on modes, since they influence the ai servo vs one-shot so much.

I wanted a cheap camera, i remember good times with my 50d….two days ago i find a brand new 7d with 2 years of warranty for 419euros …. I pulled the triguer! Very surprised people use this cameras in 2023. My favourite lense was the Tokina 2.8 11-16mm.

Hi Rob, You have almost convinced me to get used 7d MK2, but I have Panasonic G9. it is a great all round camera, but I am developing a like to capturing small birds in flight. G9 focusing can be frustrating with this. Would 7D MK2 take me any further forward. Can't convince myself it would and i need to save up for something much more expensive?

Excellent video, intend to put a lot of these tips into practice... Question.... what focus point would you recommend using. Specifically for indoor sports, mainly karate/mma.... Thanks
@NA-xp2cr Жыл бұрын
Hey! The focus point shouldn’t really matter. It depends on your composition! I’d recommend staying away from dead center. If you are doing MMA, your lens depends upon where you are shooting from. Your compositions will be very different shooting from outside than inside the ring.

Can you or anyone tell me which AF pt. would be best to shoot football of soccer. I always try to keep a focus on the face or head area. I would like to hear your take on it.. Out of the 5 AF pt's that the 7D Mil offers, which do you find works for everyone best?

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for making this video. I shoot birds (bald eagles) from a distance and I understand the manual settings part but where I get confused is with the autofocus. I can't figure out which autofocucs mode to use. I've tried AI Servo but part of the problem is the sky which can be white which makes it very hard to get autofocus to work. Any suggestions as to what to do?

Try adjusting your focus points to center plus 4 or center plus 8. It may help the focus stay on the bird.

I got the 7dii about 8 months ago, i was using the 200d before. Interestingly, i was affraid to take the 200d beyond iso800, going to 1600 was scary 😂. But since the 7dii, I've been very comfortable going to 3200. Maybe its just a mental thing that I'm using a pro camera and it should be better than the 200d. One thing is certain, it made me realize that high iso is not as awful as some make it out to be.

I was kind of hoping for some less obvious tips like what's the best AF case to use, which auto focus point type, do you use micro adjustments, where do you like to put your focus points, are some points more accurate than others and stuff like that. This video was basically just an average how to use a camera video and was honestly disappointing. There's already loads of videos for beginners, not really sure there needs to be more made
