The camp scenes were filmed at Berry College in Rome, Georgia where I used to live. My favorite part of the movie is when Julius went to Gary's home, and they hugged on the porch - all while Peace Train was playing in the background.

My favorite ALL TIME movie. Can quote it from front to back. Seen it in theaters when it released and the response in person was AMAZING. I can never turn the TV when it comes on and I've watched it about 500 times 😂. I cry everytime still aswell. Just a really good film loaded with talent across the board.

This is such a great movie, I’ve watched it so many times. Worth it every time. Two more of my favorite football movies are “RADIO” and “THE BLIND SIDE”. Both true stories. Oh and also “WE ARE MARSHALL” another true football movie, and “FACING THE GIANTS” a very inspirational movie. And yes Amber, all of these are great, emotional, happy, and sad at times, but always uplifting . Love y’all’s movie reactions.

I remember as a kid the separate water fountains and the "No Coloreds Allowed" signs. I thank my parents for teaching me tolerance. In college, in the '70's, one of my good friends was black, and would do anything for you but still had to deal with bigotry. He went on to be very successful in his job. On 9/11 he was in one of the towers. He got out. Unselfishly he ran back and saved over 40 people but unfortunately lost his life when the towers fell. He was a true Titan.

The thing that is not being said was the impact the Titans had on all the surrounding communities. People from as far away as North Carolina and Pennsylvania traveled to watch a High School football team. I was 11 yrs. old at the time and got an autograph from Redskin running back Larry Brown and New head coach of the Washington Redskins George Allen who attended Titan games. This winning atmosphere traveled across the Potomac into Redskin territory as we watched our beloved SKINS march all the way to the Superbowl in Jan. of 1972 against the undefeated Miami Dolphins. Miami won 14-7. But we had beaten the defending NFC Champion Dallas Cowboys 26-3 which was good enough for me.

This classic movie holds a special place in my heart because I knew all the real people the movie depicts. I was a senior at T.C. when those events happened. Some old-timers don’t like the movie because it takes great liberties with the facts, but most of us love it because it is great drama with an important lesson. Julius died five years ago after spending many years traveling around the country, giving inspirational talks on race relations. Some truths and untruths: Alexandria was not a southern hick town but a cosmopolitan, metropolitan suburb of 110,000. T.C. had been integrated since 1965 and at the time of the events (1971) was 30% Black. Hammond (Yoast’s school) had just two Black students because it was in the rich end of town, and G.W., in the poor end, was 60% Black. Race was not the main issue at T.C.; school rivalry was the issue, due to the merging of the three schools. Boone was not new to the school. He had been assistant coach at T.C. for two years preceding the events, and he was my P.E. teacher in his first year, when I was a sophomore. I liked Boone a lot and had a good relationship with him even though I was not a football player (I was varsity cross-country and track). As most people know, Bertier’s first car accident was not as shown. It actually occurred after the season, but the movie changed it for dramatic purposes. T.C.’s hardest game was not in the State Championship, but in the regular season, 21-16 versus Marshall. T.C. had 9 shutouts in 13 games. I saw all the regular season games. Oddly, the team’s best star was not in the movie; he was a running back who led the state in yards and touchdowns. Yoast was one of the best coaches in the state at the time, and there was widespread resentment over Boone’s selection as head coach. It is true that the training camp at Gettysburg transformed the team, and students were marveling over it when they came back. Boone was a hard-driving coach as depicted, but he had a great heart for the game and for his athletes. Singing among the Black athletes (including some basketball players) was a longtime tradition at T.C, usually done in the locker room. The players were allowed to wear their jerseys in school at any time, and they actually acted as a calming influence as depicted briefly in the film. I witnessed an incident where a player used moral suasion and school spirit to stop a fight that was starting. My favorite true thing in the movie is an event I witnessed: Ron Bass’s arrival. It actually occurred at T.C. in the first week after training camp. I was with the cross-country team, warming up at the end of the track straightaway. At the other end, a fancy car drove up the ramp from the parking lot and onto the track. Everyone was amazed; cars weren’t supposed to do that. Ron (with very long hair) and a military officer in uniform (his father) got out of the car and talked to Boone, who had stopped practice and came over to them to see what was going on. Later we learned that he was a hippie quarterback from California. He was terrific, both a fine passer and a great runner. He played much more than was shown, and he always kept our opponents guessing. Bertier was a great success in the wheelchair Olympics in the shot put and discus throw. My brother met him once in the gym in those later years, and they played ping pong. Bertier won, because he was excellent my brother says.

No, it isn't the same game. Marshall University is a college in Huntington, West Virginia and was the school whose football team was nearly wiped out by the devastating plane crash in 1970. T C Williams was a high school team from Alexandria, Virginia and their opponent in the state finals was Marshall high school located in Falls Church, Virginia.

I love the part near the end after Gerry is injured where he talks about 'Olympics for people in wheelchairs', what he means is the Paralympics which funny enough are coming up from August 28th to September 8th. You should check the coverage out either on NBC or CBS. Gerry did go on to compete in Paralympic sports. It's unfortunate he died the same way he was injured.

This one of my favorite movies! The soundtrack takes me straight back to high school! 1971-72 was my sophomore year at OKC Millwood. Because of “white flight” most of the kids I had started kindergarten with there had left. (No busing as Millwood was an independent school district) My sisters and I were among the few white kids in a majority black school, an experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Our parents believed in racial equality and lived that value by refusing to participate in the white flight and by being active in Millwood parents organizations. My sisters and I got a front row seat to the reality of discrimination because we saw it happen to our friends. Our dad is 96 now and still lives in the house we grew up in.

others have said it in comments..."We are Marshal" and "Miracle" are incredible sports films based on real teams, and I have to add a few of my favorite films based on real people and teams: "Hoosiers", "Moneyball", "Ford v Ferrari" any of these films will tap into that spirit of competition vibe and will motivate you. I know coaches who have had team film watching events around several of these films, because they're so inspirational. My father has been a high school football coach for just over 50 years, he was coaching games the month after I was born and is preparing for the 2024 season already this summer. I know you two are both former athletes and are coaches, so you know what it's all about. Keep up the good work!
