Growing up Christian, going to Christian High school and to a Christian College. Suffice it to say I have had my share of Bible study and theology classes and so forth. The scene withe the priest in the sanctuary is one of my favorite! "There is a God and I am not Him". There is so much theology summed up in that one statement! We don't always "win" in life and we don't always understand! Have faith in God anyway! Love Rudy even though we all should know it was embellished a bit form his real story (that what Hollywood does) ! None the less his story is amazing and inspirational!

Just a great movie, & true stories are always better than fiction. So many great sports films but I can narrow it down to five; “Miracle”, “Ford vs Ferrari”, “61”, “The Greatest Game Ever Played” & “Rush”. Hope y’all get to watch them all, for some reason not a lot of “reactors” have done these, which is a shame. These are absolutely fantastic & would really like to see them here.

If you guys love sports walk-on movies, you've got to see the flick "Invincible" with Mark Wahlberg. It's a true story where he plays a Philadelphia bartender named Vince Papale. (pronounced Pa-pal-ee). He never even played college football, but tries out for his hometown Eagles as a walk-on. I don't want to say too much incase you decide to watch it. It's awesome and Wahlberg does his own playing on the field. I highly recommend it guys!

For what it's worth, I always understood his Dad's attitude a little differently. It's not so much that he doesn't believe in Rudy, but that he just doesn't believe good things happen (at least not on that scale) for people like them. He didn't believe college was for people like them, or big dreams. Hence the story he told him at the bus station when he left. His whole outlook on life is just keep your head down and don't hope for anything beyond your grasp or you'll get crushed by disappointment. And he doesn't want his son (or himself) to be crushed.

The groundskeeper Charles S. Dutton had a similar Rudy-like story. He was convicted of murder at 18 and spent years in prison. He accidentally picked up book of plays one day and loved it. Formed prison drama group. Got released and went back to school. Ultimately pleaded for months for the Yale Drama School to let him in and ultimately graduated. He called his life story “from jail to Yale”. Amazing actor.

I went to Notre Dame and can tell you, football game days really are that amazing. No vibe like it anywhere else. Did you know that all of the campus scenes were really shot on campus? The extras in the background are all actual Notre Dame students who had been told to dress in 70s clothes. It was a couple of years before my time, but I recognize some of the people when I watch it. And BTW, thanks for the shout-out to the marching band's contribution. I played piccolo in the band and I will never forget the night we were rehearsing our formations in the parking lot and Lou Holtz, head coach at the time, came driving by in his golf cart and stopped and asked for the director's megaphone. He said he had noticed that we were always out there practicing for much longer each day than the football team, and he thanked us for always doing our part to get the team and the crowd fired up when they needed it. One of my all-time best memories.

This is still my favorite sports movie and I've seen tons of them. There are many I like but this one just always makes me tear up and feel good. Couple things I'm sure others have pointed out. It's not Bilbo or Frodo Baggins. It's Samwise Gamchee that Sean Astin played in the LOTR movies. He was also a guest star in Stranger Things for a season. He was in the Goonies as well. My personal favorite Sean Astin film is Toy Soldiers. His buddy DeBop is played by Jon Favreau. He later went on to play Happy in the Marvel Universe and is a director/producer. He directed Iron Man and is the guiding force behind the Star Wars Mandalorian show.

Hi guys. The real Rudy was 5'6" and 165 lbs as a defensive end. He became a writer and motivational speaker. Also guys, the speech that Rudy used to practice and recited that first time in the locker room, was a famous speech delivered by all time great coach (and former player) Knute Rockne. Also the reference to "Gipper" and the win one for me sometime, goes back to a former Notre Dame player George Gipp. He became very ill and from his hospital bed, told his teammates that one day when they were not doing well and it looked bad for them to win just one for me. That is where the expression win one for the Gipper comes from. There is another great football based movie y;all should watch if you haven't seen it. Brian's Song. One of the best buddy movies ever, and another one based on real people. Trust me, it's one that both of you will love.

They did change lots for the movie though. His family wasn't down on his dreams, he didn't have a brother that stole his girlfriend... that particular brother didn't even exist, he served in the army or something after HS, paid for school with the G.I.. bill, the team didn't threaten to quit, he didn't get a sack in the one game he played, etc. The local morning radio station had him on and were pretty brutal with him. But fantastic movie.

The jersey scene didn't happen in real life but makes for a great movie moment. In real life the captain and one other player requested he be given a chance. The crowd didn't chant but the QB sack was real and he was the only player at Notre Dame to be carried off the field. Pete was a representation of 2 of Rudy's best friends that both died. 😢

Another great reaction from you guys. I can't watch this movie without tearing up. But I want to add another perspective for you. In all my life, I have never seen any actor in any interview do what Sean Astin did. Years after the film, while being interviewed on TV, he mentioned the importance of the music score written and conducted by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith as being such an important part of the film. I am a film score buff. And one of the legendary events well known in the community of Hollywood Film Scoring is an incident while Jerry Goldsmith was conducting the orchestra for the film while watching the video simultaneously. I don't know which take it was, but at the end of it, the entire orchestra stood up to applaud Jerry Goldsmith. He was an icon in film scoring. And so well deserving. This movie is a gem in my heart. Thank You. JT

One animation for your family to show perseverance is "Monsters U". The Mike Kowalski's message from the beginning to rolling credits end exuded this point. Whether it was the setbacks, risk taking, planning or working your way up the ladder, it gives a clear example on how to deal with this in real life! It an excellent film example for parents and kids to use to discuss overcoming such things. 😊
