Stevie Nicks has often told the story of how she wrote "Stand Back". She wrote it on the day of her marriage to Kim Anderson on January 29, 1983. The newlyweds were driving up to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara when Prince's song "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. Stevie Nicks started humming along to the melody, especially inspired by the lush synthesizers on the song and "Stand Back" was born. The couple stopped, got a tape recorder and Stevie Nicks recorded the demo in the honeymoon suite that night. Later, when Stevie Nicks went into the studio to record the song, she called Prince and told him the story of how she wrote the song to his melody. On the night of February 8, 1983, Prince came to the studio and played synthesizers on it, although his contribution is uncredited on the album. Prince and Stevie Nicks did agree however to split the publishing royalties on the song 50-50, then, she says, "He just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."

Lol, that’s a cool story but can you imagine being lucky enough to have Stevie Nicks marry you and on your way to your honeymoon she starts working? I mean it goes without saying that you love someone for who they are and support them in pursuing their happiness but you’d also want them to rest and enjoy some personal time when you know how hard they work.

Prince is on the synth. She wrote this after listening to Prince's Little Red Corvette.💜 He got 50pct of the royalty because of the synth appearance and because of the heavy Little Red Corvette influence. He also wanted to remain anonymous on the track.

Fun fact: Stevie got the idea for this song singing along in her car to Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” She got in touch with him and asked if he would work with her and he contributed the keyboard accompaniment. Hence why this song has it’s sound and is so similar to his musical style and something he would do.

Really? It's funny you say that because I'm the exact opposite -- I love Stevie's voice and normally I like her videos, but this one in particular is just cringe as hell for me. The mismatched dancers with the random freeze-frames, disconnected doors and windows hung at strange angles, the weird neon-edged slope Stevie's trying to balance on while an off-camera fan's blowing on her, it's all kind of a mess. I'd have vastly preferred just watching her sing in front of a band instead of... whatever this is. 🤨

This is Stevie as a solo act away from Fleetwood Mac. In 1981 she released her debut solo CD titled "Bella Donna" Then a couple of years later she released Wild Heart , and then Rock A Little eventually culminating in the tour she did from her "Other Side Of The Mirror" tour. Yeah my obsession with Stevie Nicks goes back several decades now. It began when I first heard off Buckingham Nicks the song Rhiannon. Having read the Myth of Rhiannon of the Birds and then hearing bird wings beating in the original version of the song was amazing for me. Country Music "Bad Boy" Mr Waylon Jennings also recorded a cover of Rhiannon and I have to say he pulled it off quite well. She's one of those performers if you can't do the original singer "Justice" then don't bother cause you'll just screw it up. Waylon Jennings did a very cool cover of Rhiannon

This video and the performance is so fire! I have never felt this way in my life looking at a female vocalist from years ago that could evoke this much emotion in me. This woman does not play around. She means every lyric and I feel sorry for anybody that messes with her. Because she grips that microphone like she owns it, and that voice is raspy and so incredibly powerful. When I watch her sing especially through her videos, I feel sorry for whoever she was talking about because she is not playing around. There were a lot of great singers in the 70s and 80s but I very much doubt anybody could touch her.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This was my fist favorite song when I was a young lad. My older brother's listened to heavy metal and my older sister listened to oldies, and none of them appealed to me. I though maybe I just didn't like music until I heard this song come across the radio. I saved up my allowance all summer and bought a used radio from my step-father to run it 24/7 and turn it up whenever I heard Stand Back come on. I am still a huge Stevie Nicks fan to this day! Her voice affects different people differently but I think no one can deny that she is incredible at vocal phrasing---you can always hear the story she is telling and the emotion behind it. To this very day, when I am over someone/something I think "Maybe your attention is more than I can do." Check out some of her later work such as "Trouble in Shangri-La", "In Your Dreams," and "Secret Love" as well as such deep cuts as "Mable Normand" or "Garbo."

@@Deborahtunes I stand corrected. I DID, however, have a crush on Stevie.

So this is a duet with Kenny Loggins but you MUST listen to Stevie and him do “Whenever I Call You Friend” it is probably one of her strongest vocals

She actually got permission from Prince to use the melody of little red Corvette for this song

Love Stevie, Love Fleetwood Mac. But listen to Songbird off their Rumors album sung by Christie McVie. One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs of all time, and such a stand out that Stevie isn't lead. It's so beautiful!!!!

Agreed. She is amazing. Love the F F concept, and delivery. Others I would like to recommend if I may, also maybe new to the channel are Paula Cole, Toni Childs, and Melissa Manchester. All unique and awesome vocals. Keep up the great job.

She wrote this song after hearing Prince Little Red Corvette. She was driving and pulled over to write thoughts down and then called him. Now we have Stand Back.

Love Stevie...definitely a GOAT and one of the coolest women in music. This is one of my faves, love her signature flowing shirts/dresses as she sings. Another fave of mine is Sara! Also Gypsy...well there are so many!! 💛🧡💛🧡

Saw her at the BOK a few years ago. She told us all a story about “Stand Back” and it’s origins. Look into the connection between this song and Prince. Stevie adored Prince’s musical genius. 💜

Stevie Nicks is all powerful because makes music she believes in. The vocals are an outpouring of her dedication to the one thing she cares for more than anything else. Her music. I see Amber wearing more Rolling Stones shirts as of late. Maybe we can get a video from the boys in the 8o's like, SHE'S SO COLD, HARLEM SHUFFLE, or MIXED EMOTIONS. If you follow Stevie Nicks let's hear her sing with Don Henley on the song, LEATHER AND LACE. Or if you haven't reacted to it yet, the video for GYPSY is a gorgeous production that plays to another passion of hers which is dancing. Enjoy.

I'm suggesting two Stevie Nicks songs that were not singles. They are from her first solo album "Bella Donna". First there is "Outside The Rain" and then "How Still My Love". I love Stevie's music and have to offer something more than just her single releases. Great artist's have more than released singles to hear. You would also enjoy the title track "Bella Donna". The album as a whole is wonderful and something I listen to straight through whenever I listen to it. Bella Donna has always been a favorite of mine since 1981 and return to it often. It's a Classic!

That's Prince on the keyboards you philistines. Stevie called him and said she wrote a new song based on the chord progression of "Little Red Corvette" and Prince said, "I'll be right over to help." So cool.

Ms. Amber: I have a t-shirt that has her pic on it and says, "Stevie Nicks is my fairy godmother". I get lots of comments from other females who see my shirt and say they also love Stevie. It's kind of a little bonding moment!

The SouthPark reference is even more hilarious when Jordan said she's gotta be the G.O.A.T of women's voices. That is the animal in SouthPark that passes for Stevie Nicks. I never made the comparison until I saw it on that show. After I thought about it for a second, I busted out laughing because I can hear the similarity. She can vibrate and manipulate her vocal chords in a similar way. This was such a pinnacle song to me. Her looks, her sound and her delivery are top notch and made me feel powerful whenever I listened to it. Thank you for the work you put into your channels and sharing the music and movies that shaped older generations. It connects humanity and is so uplifting when we can share our sorrows and joys with each other through music, sounds that can vibrate every molecule in our bodies.
