Stevie Nicks has often told the story of how she wrote "Stand Back". She wrote it on the day of her marriage to Kim Anderson on January 29, 1983. The newlyweds were driving up to San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara when Prince's song "Little Red Corvette" came on the radio. Stevie Nicks started humming along to the melody, especially inspired by the lush synthesizers on the song and "Stand Back" was born. The couple stopped, got a tape recorder and Stevie Nicks recorded the demo in the honeymoon suite that night. Later, when Stevie Nicks went into the studio to record the song, she called Prince and told him the story of how she wrote the song to his melody. On the night of February 8, 1983, Prince came to the studio and played synthesizers on it, although his contribution is uncredited on the album. Prince and Stevie Nicks did agree however to split the publishing royalties on the song 50-50, then, she says, "He just got up and left as if the whole thing happened in a dream."

Lol, that’s a cool story but can you imagine being lucky enough to have Stevie Nicks marry you and on your way to your honeymoon she starts working? I mean it goes without saying that you love someone for who they are and support them in pursuing their happiness but you’d also want them to rest and enjoy some personal time when you know how hard they work.

This is Stevie as a solo act away from Fleetwood Mac. In 1981 she released her debut solo CD titled "Bella Donna" Then a couple of years later she released Wild Heart , and then Rock A Little eventually culminating in the tour she did from her "Other Side Of The Mirror" tour. Yeah my obsession with Stevie Nicks goes back several decades now. It began when I first heard off Buckingham Nicks the song Rhiannon. Having read the Myth of Rhiannon of the Birds and then hearing bird wings beating in the original version of the song was amazing for me. Country Music "Bad Boy" Mr Waylon Jennings also recorded a cover of Rhiannon and I have to say he pulled it off quite well. She's one of those performers if you can't do the original singer "Justice" then don't bother cause you'll just screw it up. Waylon Jennings did a very cool cover of Rhiannon

Fun fact: Stevie got the idea for this song singing along in her car to Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” She got in touch with him and asked if he would work with her and he contributed the keyboard accompaniment. Hence why this song has it’s sound and is so similar to his musical style and something he would do.

Really? It's funny you say that because I'm the exact opposite -- I love Stevie's voice and normally I like her videos, but this one in particular is just cringe as hell for me. The mismatched dancers with the random freeze-frames, disconnected doors and windows hung at strange angles, the weird neon-edged slope Stevie's trying to balance on while an off-camera fan's blowing on her, it's all kind of a mess. I'd have vastly preferred just watching her sing in front of a band instead of... whatever this is. 🤨

This was my fist favorite song when I was a young lad. My older brother's listened to heavy metal and my older sister listened to oldies, and none of them appealed to me. I though maybe I just didn't like music until I heard this song come across the radio. I saved up my allowance all summer and bought a used radio from my step-father to run it 24/7 and turn it up whenever I heard Stand Back come on. I am still a huge Stevie Nicks fan to this day! Her voice affects different people differently but I think no one can deny that she is incredible at vocal phrasing---you can always hear the story she is telling and the emotion behind it. To this very day, when I am over someone/something I think "Maybe your attention is more than I can do." Check out some of her later work such as "Trouble in Shangri-La", "In Your Dreams," and "Secret Love" as well as such deep cuts as "Mable Normand" or "Garbo."

My favorite Stevie Nicks solo song ("Edge of Seventeen" is a close second), a great 80's classic.

She's one of my all time favorites. Love this song one of my top songs by her. That whiskey voice... Can't say enough about it. I really love "talk to me"

When I think of Stevie's solo career I always think of this song first. Glad you finally got to hear it.

The first time I saw her in concert, she was FANTASTIC. What surprised me was how petite she is. I think that must be why she wears heels all the time.

I'm suggesting two Stevie Nicks songs that were not singles. They are from her first solo album "Bella Donna". First there is "Outside The Rain" and then "How Still My Love". I love Stevie's music and have to offer something more than just her single releases. Great artist's have more than released singles to hear. You would also enjoy the title track "Bella Donna". The album as a whole is wonderful and something I listen to straight through whenever I listen to it. Bella Donna has always been a favorite of mine since 1981 and return to it often. It's a Classic!

The 80's were a prosperous time for female rock singers. Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Lita Ford...and Stevie Nicks. It was their time to shine.

I’m still addicted to this amazing song after all these years. Stevie with a little Prince in the mix , winning combination 👏👏 that was that “funky” sound Jay mentioned. a little of her witchy ways in the video too 🧙‍♀️
