Im a Vet. I am glad he made a stand and told the truth about how Vets are treated after serving. 73% are homeless today Walking on the streets on a thin line. Fortunate for me after 5 years homeless I got off the streets from Mather program in Northern California.....but loss all my friends...who have found ways to ignore me and some think I am dead. But I am still here by Grace of God.....and got some news friends too. Yeah it is a problem in this country and has been for many years. Great reactions!!!

Thank you for your service, but where did you get that 73% number from? Statistics on the issue are spotty and vary widely but are typically stated between 10 to 40%. Way too high and should be easy to remedy with the money thrown at it, but government money always seems to disappear before actually getting to the problem.

I call bullsh**! 73% of vets are not homeless! That's such a ridiculous statement. I might buy 7.3%, but even that is a stretch. But, to your point, if even 0.73% of vets are homeless, that's 0.73% too many. By the way, I'm a Navy Vietnam vet.

This song is appreciated, our Vets deserve all the tribute they get. I lost my husband to PTSD and all Vets need the deep love we can express. Without them we wouldn't have our freedom. Thanks for your reactions. Love you both and your family.🫶🎶🔥

I'm 68, lost a fiancé in Vietnam, plus two good friends.🙏🙏🙏 And was engaged to vet, who lived with three others...they all had some degree of trauma (PTSD). I volunteered at the Long Beach VA, with Vietnam vets. I have an uncle, lifer in service, died from Agent Orange. Those vets have had it rough...if they still called it "SHELL SHOCK" They might've received the help they needed!!!!😵😵😵😵

This song, telling the story of many of our vets, doesn't get the recognition it deserves!!! Even though he's singing about our Vietnam vets, it still rings true for our vets who've been through multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you so much for bringing more attention to this song!

Huey Lewis is one interesting cat. He skipped second grade. Scored a perfect 800 on the math portion of his SAT, was all-state (New Jersey) in baseball and started university at Cornell. But before doing that he stowed away on a plane to Europe and hitchhiked across it with almost no money at all. To earn money he busked with his harmonica and singing blues songs. He was an engineering student at Cornell but left to be in a band after his junior year. He worked numerous odd jobs while playing in local bands until he hit the big time. That took 12 years to happen.

After hearing this one, I think you will appreciate Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon," written/sung from the POV of a Vietnam soldier in the thick of war. Hope you check out the video! (It's a live version.) He has always honored veterans whenever he performs this song live by having a group of veterans (local to whatever city he's performing in) to sing the chorus onstage. When he did the song for a post-9/11 concert, he had NYC first responders.

I was with the guard out of upstate NY, many of our officers I met in the early 80s were vets, three different wars worth, some of the best people I ever met and had a chance to talk with. I miss them all, I was stuck here in the states sending many a person over seas to different places especially when 91 hit. To many sent over to a crummy desert. I may be in my sixties now but would love to help in Ukraine.

As a long time Huey Lewis and the News fan, this has always been one of my favorites. What a great rock and roll tune it is. But even bigger than that, I really appreciate the fact that you guys got the message here that Huey was trying to convey. I went in the military in 1978, just after the last troops had been removed from Viet Nam in 1975. I worked with some Viet Nam veterans and I learned from the experience that the general populace of our country really has no clue about the negative impacts on these veterans. Especially the current culture. They were mistreated and unappreciated and most never recognized for their contributions. Very sad. Thank you for your family’s service to our country. Keep on doing what you’re doing, enjoying the music, and appreciating the message when it’s of good value. 👍👏

First of all, this album was one of the first 3 cassettes I got with my first boombox. It has truly stood the test of time. I wore this one out (which meant the tape got tangled so badly in the player that it had to be cut out). It's been years since I heard the song. I never realized until this reaction, that it was about Vietnam. Thank you for reacting to all these memories and thank you to all the vets who did not get that coming home.

Thank you so much, Jay and Amber, for "getting it". Many of us have wounded warriors in at least one generation of our families, even if we aren't Vets ourselves. Knowing how difficult it can be for the civilian population to separate the war from the warrior, people and governments might be more careful about not just the treatment and care of those who serve and their families, but about the foreign policy decisions they make and/or support.

Saw Huey Lewis and The News in Denver in about 87. Cant remember who opened for them, but during the intermission their was a power outage backstage. Huey can out with a couple of the guys and sang a few songs acapla. The old Mcnichols Arena had such perfect acoustics, you could hear them singing clearly anywhere in the building. After a few songs, Huey sat down at the edge of the stage and told stories about life, touring, his family, even told jokes like a stand up comedian. Took questions from all over the audience to help kill time until the problem was fixed. After about 45 minutes, they finally got the show started. Lasted about 2 hours. The tickets I had I won from a local radio station included meet and greet the band. I've been to over 150 concerts in my life. I've been very fortunate to meet about half of the performers I've seen. But ABSOLUTELY HANDS DOWN, Huey Lewis and his band were the most humble and personable people you could imagine. There was nothing "Big Stars" about them. Just a bunch of guys that loved to play music and talk to the fans. CHEERS from Colorado

Amber, you said that the US does not do very well to its Vets. i have to say it is night and day compared to my home country of Canada. Our vets get almost no assistance from our government, and the compensation they receive is laughable. It is only since the mental health crisis came to light that we have even BEGUN TO assist those who have served. As a man whose ancestors have served in both World Wars and the Korean War, I am angered by this beyond belief.

Sports was a MASSIVE selling album that spawned SEVERAL hit songs, the album was 1, and I remember it well, I was 13, and man we jammed to this album, it was a big massive album, it has SIX top hit songs, out of 9, that days a lot. ….AND….I still own my vinyl to this day.

My father (who was in his late 40s when it was released) looooooved this album so much - he'd play it non-stop! So for me, this is Dad Rock.

One of the few serious songs by this band. Great tune about the struggles of a Vietnam vet after the war. I still don’t think you guys have reacted “I want a new drug”. Awesome upbeat song, lots of horns for Amber and of course, a terrific video.

Yep, they did that one. Looks like this is their 9th Huey song. Still plenty to choose from.

Your next Huey Lewis & the News song should be either Couple Days Off, or Hit Me Like A Hammer. Also 19 by Paul Hardcastle is another good Vietnam War vet song.

The Sports album was released in 1983 and ultimately charted for 160 weeks. That's over 3 years. That's how BIG of an album it was. I got to see them live during that time. It was incredible. I always love a band with great horns, too. Less prominent in this one but usually a big part of any of their music.

I love this song. When I was a kid, there were a lot of guys in town who had come back from Vietnam who were often treated like sh#t. And my uncle has struggled mightily, though an outsider would never know it. To paraphrase Charlie Daniels, a rich kid’s sent to college, a poor kid’s sent to war.

Great song, and like so many others who mentioned it, brings much needed attention to our Vietnam Vets. Thank you for reacting to it! Also, the next Huey Lewis & The News song you should react to is 'Hip 2 Be Square ' awesome song with a very fun video to it. And it even has horns for Amber!

I too am a vet. I live far back in the woods, where the noises in my head are fainter. I see my brothers on the street, and I know them by their haunted eyes. Ive faired marginally better, but only because of the remote nature of my soul, even before the Days of Thunder. Those of us that yet survive Southeast Asia, have made our peace or died. But sadly, war is generational, and each must taste the taboo fruit of death by organized violence. The streets resound of the silent parade of shattered souls. "War! What is it good for?" the only answer obvious to the multitude. Yet war eats the souls of those who must stand amidst it's flames year in and year out. I can only bow my head.

I’m served during Operation Desert Storm/Shield. My dad served during Vietnam. My grandpa during WW2. The over the top celebration of the troops after DS/DS made me feel strange - after they way my dad’s era was treated. God bless ALL of our veterans. 🇺🇸🫡
