Child please I was beyond blessed to have been young in the 70's. I went to shows, concerts and out dancing at least once every weekend. The music was phenomenal and we were free and unembarrassed to dance and jive. Both girls and guys. Disco balls spinning, wild funky clothes and leaving your cocktails on the tables uncovered with no worry. Man those were the days to be young. Those were my days and I'm so glad they were.

Amber, Kool and the Gang have two sounds, smooth R&B of the 80's and funk of the 70's. The real difference between their two distinct sounds was due to the addition of their lead singer James "JT" Taylor. But we loved them regardless of the era. We jammed to their sound, along with other groups like EW&F, Gap Band, Cameo, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Parliament Funkadelic; just to name a few. These groups had the ability to get down and funky on one song, then mellow you out with smooth R&B tunes on the next tract. That's why we loved and still love them so much.❤❤❤

These guys were big on radio straight out of the gate with "Jungle Boogie". I remember it when I was a young teenager. Over the years these guys were always on the radio somewhere with lots of hits. The shows like American Bandstand, Soul Train, etc had a selection process by going to areas where they were filming and holding auditions. People would dance and they would select people from the groups who were dancing. Many of them stayed on for an entire season or several shows and people in the audience actually got to know their names.

Nothing beat actually seeing them perform, singing and dancing. That's even how I learned a lot of dance moves. I loved the Soul Train Line where two lines of people were on both sides and people took turns coming off the lines and doing dances down the middle. Soul Train and the original MTV back in the 80's really formed my childhood from around 9 years old and up through my teenage years. I truly loved those years. There's nothing like either one now.

"Jungle Boogie" is a must and all other suggestions in the comments are great for the future. Two other songs by them I must add since they were not mentioned are "Ooh La La Let's Go Dancing" and "Open Sesame". "Summer Madness" by them is a excellent and wonderful experience. Now another push for KC & The Sunshine Band and their songs "Get Down Tonight" and "That's The Way (I Like It)". Both have been suggested so many times. Lou Rawls "See You When I Git There", George McCrae's "Rock Your Baby" and Peter Brown's "Dance With Me" are wonderful and you would enjoy them, as well. They have been suggested before also. So many great jams to move and get funky. You have so much yet to hear. Great reaction by the way!

Need to see Prince’s life version of “Play that Funky Music” with “Hollywood Swinging”. Incredible performance with Prince playing guitar and bass guitar.
AMERICAN BANDSTAND and SOUL TRAIN were usually shown on Saturdays in Southern California, where I grew up, usually between 11 am and 2 pm. While AMERICAN BANDSTAND was usually carried on ABC affiliate stations, I seem to recall that SOUL TRAIN was syndicated, so it was often on an independent local station rather than a network affiliate, although that varied from market to market. Sometimes they were in direct competition with each other in certain areas but usually we could easily watch both shows if we wanted to. The Midnight Special, as well as Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert, however, were late night programs that usually aired around midnight or 1 am, usually on either a Friday or Saturday night. I seem to remember that they aired in the L.A. market on the NBC affiliate, if I’m not mistaken. They often followed Saturday Night Live from 1975 and onward.
That was the time, AB was on ABC and Soul Train was on WGN in Chicago.

American Bandstand, the show that started showing teens dancing to popular music on tv, started here in Philadelphia, when my parents were teens in the 50's! It became so popular that the ABC network moved the show to L.A. They used to have reunions and special appearances by the original dancers, but by now most of them have passed on. Later in the 80's there was another local dance show, Dancin' on Air!! I knew people from my high school that got on it!! The same thing happened, it got very popular and was on the USA network. Now TSOP has a history with Soul Train, as a form of it was the theme song for Soul Train for a number of years. It's a great tune, a bit swing, a bit funky, a great dance tune, you'll both (and all of us) will love it.

So I loved this song since I was a kid in the 70’s. You asked about Soul Train. I had a martial arts mentor named Benny Welburn (RIP). He was Gladys Knights bodyguard. We lived in Hollywood. When I was 15 in 1980, or so, Benny asked if I wanted to go to a Soul Train taping. I grew up watching Soul Train with my mom. I jumped on the offer and sure enough was in the studio watching Gladys Knight and the Pips perform their song Landlord. Saw the one and only Don Cornelius (RIP) do his thing. I wandered around the studio and noticed many episodes were taped in one day and the dancers brought extra clothing with them to change into to look different. A wonderful experience and great memory. After the taping we travelled to Las Vegas to a week of shows Gladys and the Pips did at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino. I still have the backstage passes and flyers.

So many of us living in Florida had the greatest grad nights mid to late 70's because Disney World would have the top groups performing live there! I saw Kool & The Gang, K.C. & the Sunshine Band, The Commodores, Chicago, Peaches & Herb, the list goes on! Also had Latin Nights, the best salsa & merengue music popular at the the time!

THE JIMMY CASTOR BUNCH - " It's Just Begun" 1970s Funk Grooves. for many years I thought this song was created by KC & The Sunshine Band cuz the voice and music style is very similar but I finally in 2023 found the original band and this song is very recognizable the moment you guys listen to it you'll love it. It's got such a brilliant bass line . Everything about it is awesome 💯👍
