Exactly what it was When out dancing all the time my disco days It does bring back great memories plus no one I knew Hate it like everybody else so I hate disco but I love my tisco and I love my eighties rock glam bands everything So certain people didn't understand it cause you're just supposed to be one or the other I guess to them But I go out dancing disco and then go to a party and listen to Van Halen and at that time they just came out

This was a huge hit in 1978 and it still slaps. What you heard were guitars, bass, and synthesizers. They were just as good live. You must also check out their song “Sukiyaki” .

I've recently come to realize that 1978 was probably the greatest year in music in my lifetime. Boogie Oogie Oogie was #9 on the Billboard Charts that year. Saturday night fever came out in December 77. The 1978 charts had five of the top 10 songs from one family.(BeeGees had 3, Andy Gibb had 2) it was the year the movie Grease came out. Another great song from that year was Love Will Find a Way by Pablo Cruise. Summer 78 was the season of Baker Street and Donna Summer's Last Dance.

That sound you're hearing that you think might be kazoo is actually a clavinet, the same instrument you hear Stevie Wonder play on a number of songs but which you'll particularly notice in the intro to his song, "Superstition." A clavinet is similar to a piano but smaller, electronically amplified (because otherwise it's super quiet), and makes its sounds in a similar but slightly different way than a piano, giving its notes more of a metallic sound. The clavinet is basically a modern version of a clavichord, a keyboard instrument invented in the 14th century and which was a precursor to the harpsichord, a bigger, louder keyboard instrument you hear a lot in classical music from the 18th century, like Mozart, Bach, etc. In the middle of the 20th century, Ernst Zacharias decided to update the clavichord by making it electronically amplified and the clavinet is the result. TWO FUN FACTS ABOUT CLAVINETS: (1) Stevie Wonder has referred to the clavinet as "my electric guitar," because it gives him that gritty, funky, metallic sound he can't get with any other instrument; and (2) because the clavinet is electronically amplified, you can attach FX pedals just like for a guitar, including things like wah-wah pedals and overdrive pedals. In fact, some modern clavinets even have a whammy bar for aggressive pitch-bending. It's a cool instrument with a very unique sound. Of course, these days, you don't need to actually buy a clavinet. Most synthesizers and computer music programs have at least one setting or sample that mimics the sound of the clavinet.

A few more you could react to are: Rod Stewart singing "Baby Jane" (A favorite of mine), Brian McKnight with "Back At One", Eternal singing "Oh Baby I" and "Stay", and Jon .B. featuring Babyface singing "Someone To Love". Thanks for all you do, it's greatly appreciated. Have a blessed day!

Another song by A Taste Of Honey you really need to check out is “Sukiyaki”, but just FYI, it’s a complete turnaround from “Boogie Oogie Oogie”. “Sukiyaki” is a ballad, and it’s absolutely beautiful. I think Amber especially will enjoy it. ❤

I applaud you guys -- neither of you are stuck up despite being RVC pop stars. 😁 Really, though -- almost 400 K subscribers? Holy popularity, Batman!! That is fantastic. Y'all deserve it. Super likable . Y'all's channel is even mentioned on other RVCs. This song brings back lots of memories. Disco was at it's apex at the time that this song came out. Maybe just rounding the hilltop of disco's popularity. But man was it popular. And the guitar/synth solo ? Come on, man ! Was a blast watching y'all dance. And I don't think either of you stopped boogie-oogieing the entire song.

I liked this one instantly when it came out, but it got overplayed and I got over it. Now it's growing on me again. I'm glad y'all chose an extended version and not one that was cut up for radio. You would also like their songs "Rescue Me," "Sayonara," and two remakes: "I'll Try Something New" (a Smokey Robinson song!) and "Sukiyaki." The lead singer, Janice Marie Johnson, is of Stockbridge-Munsee Indian background, and is in the Native American Music Hall of Fame. That first solo was not a kazoo 😂 but a guitar, but heavily compressed. (Roger Troutman and Ernie Isley used to do that a lot too.)The band GQ also has a nice version of this.

This song was a big hit--#1 I think, and won a Grammy or two. Yet the group didn't really take off with lots of hits. I think just a couple. They had so much competition, including the Bee Gees. I think those gals had a lot of talent though. This song should be on everyone's top 10 disco list. If you haven't done so, check out "Turn the Beat Around" by Vicki Sue Robinson--another disco high water mark.

The year I turned 21 some wonderful people took an abandoned four story Brick Warehouse two blocks from my home and transformed it into the quintessential european-style discotheque. We spent some time dancing to the music in our living room when we were too broke for the cover, but spent an equal amount of time dancing for hours on a crowded dance floor under a set of glittering disco balls with the music so loud you could feel it as well as you could hear it. The guys were in polyester leisure suits, wide collared polyester shirts with at least the top three buttons open and platform shoes. The girls in short skirts and and sparkly crop tops, 4in heels, 4in hoops and big hair. But that generation was generally in much better health and much more physically active than today's 20 something kids. Of course the 1980s was before AIDS made sex hazardous to your health. Which had a similar effect on things during that time as covid has had on recent times. You can see a definite before and after line and how people behaved and it really was a shame because things like disco music brought people together and made them happy. And then AIDS came and took all that happiness away. It took Freddie Mercury from us. That decade really was golden and it was a result of lots of protests and Sacrifice by previous generations and the music of the time was a celebration. The Vietnam War had ended and its subsequent draft as well. The Civil Rights Movement had changed things and people who had lost confidence in the greatest Generations government. Then there was the 80s Regan Clinton era economic bubble made it so everybody had at least one credit card in their wallet and you were still able to pay your credit card bill with another credit card. And we all had a low interest mortgage for an amount that was higher than we really could afford to pay. That's the basis for the current predatory banking system that owns 60% of the single-family homes in the US and are turning us all into a nation of renters with no personal Equity to pass on to our children or use as collateral to start a business. But it was a grand bubble while it lasted and we enjoyed every minute of it. But drug cartels gang violence and AIDS knocked that house of cards down. I'm glad I was one of those 20 something clubbers and had the experience before the world went nuts again. And I'm happy that the two of you are getting a glimpse of that world
