Couldn't agree more on this one, as not only is it one of Duran Duran's best tunes, it's one of the best Bond themes out there. It gets its proper due among DD fans, but among Bond theme fans, often not so much, as sometimes it doesn't even make top 10. It's a top 5 for me personally, and those 5 are probably interchangeable depending on my mood and day of the week.

In the U.S., The Wild Boys could have been Duran Duran's second consecutive #1 song after The Reflex (#1 August 1984) leading to a 3rd consecutive #1 song with A View To A Kill (#1 July 1985). But, The Wild Boys anchored in at #2 for Four Straight Weeks. That must have been rough for the band. The first week for Duran Duran at #2, The Wild Boys was behind Daryl Hall & John Oates' #1 song Out Of Touch. The next week, Madonna's Like A Virgin leapfrogged The Wild Boys into the #1 spot from #3 & Duran Duran resided at #2 for three more weeks behind Madonna. Like A Virgin remained at #1 for seven consecutive weeks total. Not bad for Nile Rodgers who produced both songs.

Simon Le Bon has not been with Duran Duran since 1981. Le Bon joined Duran Duran in the summer of 1980. Duran Duran's original singer was Stephen Duffy (also known as Tin Tin) who co-founded the band with John Taylor & soon after had Nick Rhodes join the band. When Duffy left the band, Andy Wickett joined as their vocalist & after he left Jeff Thomas was in the group as their singer until Le Bon became their permanent voice for the band. Side note since Wickett was brought up. When Wickett was in the band, he came up with the melody & the chorus for Girls On Film, & Rio was adapted & altered from Wickett's song called Stevie's Radio that Wickett wrote when he was in the band TV Eye. Girls On Film considerably changed from the version the band wrote with him as well. When Wickett quit the band, he signed a waiver to the rights to the songs he co-wrote with the band & was paid £600, which converted back then to US currency would have been around $1,300. From Business Live (May 2009) & taken from the article "Andy Wickett: The Duran Duran Star Who Never Was." Andy Wickett: “When Simon Le Bon joined the group, their manager used to pay me £10 to give him singing lessons. I’d give him 20 minutes, getting him to sing Girls On Film. He used to try and copy me, because the band liked my style.” Then, of course, the band wanted the rights to his songs. “I went up to see them, and they gave me 600 quid, and I took it. They gave me it in £50 notes, and I had never seen £50 notes in my life. I got a keyboard with the cash, because I was into reggae at that time, and doing a lot of dub reggae, electronic stuff.” Andy now regrets his decision to give away the rights ... and untold riches. “I shouldn’t have done it,” he says. “But my solicitor advised me to do it. “He said ‘Sign it, so that you’ll have a paper trail, and that means you’ve got an interest in those songs.’ I went back to see him afterwards, and he said, ‘Actually, I don’t think you’ve got much chance of getting anything.’”

I always felt like this video was the trailer for a 1980s post-apocalyptic movie that never happened. If you're still looking for more Duran Duran videos, "Union of the Snake" has a similar feel to this one but the song imo is even better - one of the funkiest tracks they've done. "Is There Something I Should Know?" is also a great tune and an interesting video. These guys were so huge that I find it weird that pretty much the only song that gets played on the radio etc. anymore is Hungry Like the Wolf. "The Reflex" was #1 on my local radio station's weekly countdown for what seemed like most of a year. I think it's almost a curse of this band being so eclectic and so different that they really don't fit in even with the other '80s bands you still hear today. I'm really glad you all are enjoying them. P.S. I also love the song "Last Chance on the Stairway" off the Rio album but I'm not sure if there's a video for it.

This video/music came from their 1st huge world tour that put them on the map. Everyone considered it the Arena Tour but it was the Sing Blue Silver Tour. One of there last stops on the tour was a 3-show stint in Oakland that was filmed as a concert for Cinemax. After this tour ended, they separated and stemmed off into 2 other groups. They only performed together for one event before they regrouped which was Live Aid in 85.
@edwardf1037 ай бұрын
This video/music did not come from "their 1st huge world tour that put them on the map" & it has nothing to do with the tour. First: Duran Duran was "already" internationally on the map since Rio came out in May 1982, a year and half before their world tour started. Duran Duran were popular in the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada & in the USA. What this tour did do was elevate Duran Duran into arguably becoming the biggest band in the world & into a hysteria- unseen since The Beatles came to Unites States in 1964, with their fan base. Second: Duran Duran started their world tour to support their new album, "Seven And The Ragged Tiger," released in November 1983, in Canberra, Australia on November 12, 1983 & ended their tour in San Diego, California on April 17, 1984. Duran Duran's world tour was called the "Sing Blue Silver Tour." Third: "The Wild Boys," has nothing to do whatsoever with their world tour. The most revered music video director at the time, Russell Mulcahy, who directed Duran Duran's first video, Planet Earth, followed by many others such as, Rio, Hungry Like The Wolf, Save A Prayer, Is There Something I Should Know? & The Reflex & etc., had bought the rights to William S. Burroughs' novel, "The Wild Boys: A Book of the Dead" (1971) & planned to make a movie based on this book. Mulchay wanted Duran Duran to do the soundtrack for the movie. So, three months after Duran Duran's world tour ended, the band went into the studio in July 1984 to write & record the title track & anthem for Mulcahy's film called "The Wild Boys." The film did not materialize & Mulchay's vision for the movie was actualized in the "The Wild Boys" music video he directed. Fourth: "Everyone" did not consider the "Sing Blue Silver Tour" the "Arena Tour." No one would have even known to have called this tour the "Arena Tour" & it would not have made any sense to do so. Fifth: Duran Duran released "The Wild Boys" as a single in October 1983 & the song was added as a bonus track to their live album, which was released a month later in November 1984, titled "Arena." The only connection "The Wild Boys" has with the "Sing Blue Silver Tour" is that the song was added as a track to (help sell) their Arena album. That's it. And in March 1985, Duran Duran released a concert film titled "Arena (An Absurd Notion)." Last: You say, "After this tour ended, they separated and stemmed off into 2 other groups. They only performed together for one event before they regrouped which was Live Aid in 85." This is the event that the band "regrouped" for mate in July 1985 after the band "separated and stemmed off into 2 other groups." The band soon became a trio from being a quintet & Live Aid was the last time the five members performed together until 2001.

The idea for the song came from director Russell Mulcahy, who wanted to make a feature film based on William S. Burroughs' novel Wild Boys (The Wild Boys: A Book of the Dead). He proposed to the band to compose a rock score for the film, similar to how he would ask Queen for Highlander - The Last Immortal in 1986. [6]

Duran Duran did an awesome cover of White Lines by Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel that’s definitely worth a reaction when you get back to your covers series.

Save a prayer and The Chauffeur are two songs that anyone new coming to Duran have to hear. The Chauffeur is just stunning, not everyone's cup of tea but it's one of their earliest songs, and they've performed so many incredible interpretations of it.

Both songs are beautiful & The Chauffeur is so different to anything that was released back then and still to this day. A phenomenal song and way ahead of its time for 1982.

The wild boys were the men coming back from war, and the reception the citizenry gave them.

These are my boys. I was mocked for loving them...until this song came out. Then people in my class said "These are the guys you like, right? Great song!" Ugh. Better late than never.

Always liked how this one sounds right on the edge of his vocal range

I've been waiting for Wild Boys! When this video came out people went insane. The cultural impact was huge.

They have avoided being the same forever. As the members changed and grew, so did their music. I went to several of their concerts, back in the day.

There’s not a sexier sound alive than John Taylor’s Bass playing, people need to remember that back in the 80’’s Duran Duran were considered to be nothing more then just a “Boyband” except they wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, such a great band.

In the 80s I was told I was a fool because Simon was not a great singer. But in every song (esp. this one and New Moon On Monday) you can hear he's got a very wide vocal range. And I've had a crush on him since 1982...

You guys are right about calling the video a Mad Max vibe. This Music video was made to completely pay homage to The Road Warrior. Which had everyone blown away in the early 80s! I've heard The Road Warrior was the number one movie Bands would watch on their tour buses in the 80s.

One of my favorite songs by DD because I love the percussion in this song. As someone noted earlier, Simon LeBon nearly drowned because the windmill stopped when he got to the bottom and his head was under water.

It is easy to oversee DD, but they may have been the greatest Band of the 80ties. They had had hits all through the decade.

Huge group they were on MTV constantly and even did a Bond song. They were a top 5 popular band in their time and a good group as well. Great lead singer
