What your father meant was "No talking when music is playing". Interruptions affect MANY great works like this. If it's pop music or rap or disco or big band, go ahead and yap. But if it's the kind of music that sends chills up your spine or makes you feel things, then SHADDUP! Do not disturb! Do NOT break the mood.

The way Jimmy fools you into thinking you're listening to his lead, and then suddenly he layers a whole new lead right on top of the previous one. And if you're listening, you'll hear JPJ bringing the fill with that base line. It just adds so much depth. Finally, Bonzo is playing in another plane and you don't even realize he's all on his own.

I am 60, but am in IT, so most of my co-workers are in their 20's and 30's. Most of them are also big Zeppelin fans. More than any other old rock band, they really gravitate to Zeppelin, and this is strictly by choice.; I was never solicited for this, although they have quizzed me about Zeppelin, The Doors, and a few others. Young people like to discover something on their own, not be "sold" or "marketed to". That just tells you the power of this group.

My kids used to mock my music as they were growing up in the 90's and 2000's. One late summer evening I was relaxing in the backyard by the pool. The sun had set and the evening was cool and pleasant. They came outside (they were late teens by then) as I was sipping a margarita and "Kashmir" started playing. They sat their vibing along with me so I kept playing Zepplin. This song was next and then "The Rain Song" and more. They became fans.

When Led Zeppelin was born, their music’s primary purpose was to grab the entire world’s attention and as many fans as possible. When Led Zeppelin grew into its maturity, the purpose of its music was to transcend this world and move into a different musical universe where only the remnant and true fans could follow. This song is one of the otherworldly.

I love the lines “we are eagles of one nest, the nest is in our souls”. He and the girl were from the same town (nest) and they carry that place and experiences within themselves. It’s a part of who they are She asked him to choose between her and his musical ambitions. I’m so glad, for all of us, that Robert chose music.

Robert wrote this song about an ex girlfriend that made him choose between her or his future career. At the time he was a teenager so it was young love as he was only around 26/27 when he wrote this. Another great vibe song is The Rain Song. I love the live MSG version partnered with The Song Remains The Same; the transition is really wonderful. This is from the movie The Song Remains The Same, which incorporates a fantasy cut of Robert as a medieval warrior. Each member had their own fantasy cut within the movie.

This song is so beautifully nuanced; you have a melodic guitar with warm bass notes before Plant's voice moves you soothingly along a path of quiet introspection/reflection, whatever it is that is in your feelings. Tastefully played drums are just enough to elevate without completely breaking the spell. All the guitar overdubs make this a sumptuous sounding song. One of Zep's greatest songs. Amber is right when she says that in this case they just take their time and let it all just sink in. What I love about this track is how Bonzo and JPJ lay down this amazing groove and it swings so hard. Then Page layers all these fantastic guitar textures with some fantastic chord choices. It's such a pleasure to listen to.

Just to let u guys know, this song was originally was met to be a Instrumental, but lead vocalist Robert Plant came-up with lyrics from when he was in this relationship with a woman which she gave him an Ultimatum. It’s her, or his Career as a musician. Of course he choose the music and Ten Years after the brake-up they saw each other again. The way he phrases things in this song is total Poetry, so you should download the lyrics and for sure you’ll see it. There are so many elements that makes all parts of this song amazing from each member. A Classic.

Can't dispute the absolute sheer genius of Led Zeppelin and of this entire album. I will disagree with the back porch, drinking vibe. I'd argue it is deep, intense, and introspective!! And brilliant!!!

You're not drinking the right Bourbon. A good bourbon whiskey is a smoky journey evoking memories of the breeze flowing through the oak trees, the soft murmerings of folk in the background while a creek nearby bubbles over the rocks, occasionally dislodging a pebble to clink against another.

@@canonfodder2068 You and Jay do have a point. I guess my "knee-jerk" was that there are plenty Led Zeppelin songs that damn near require loud, rowdy, back porch parties. This is definitely one which encourages contemplation and peaceful introspection. And NOTHING at all says a smooth bourbon wouldn't be perfect for just that! My apologies! ✌🥃

Would love for you guys to check out Zeppelin's song from their 4th LP " Battle of Evermore" it's an acoustic song with Jimmy on the mandolin. It features the late great Sandy Denny. An absolute killer duet. Side note: It is commonly believed to be based on events in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings' final volume, The Return of the King.

In an ocean of awesome, this is my favourite Zep song. The harmonic chords are so great, the melody, dynamics, , rhythm section, lyrics and evolving 70s production compliment perfectly. I never pick up the guitar and don’t play the opening section.

Oh...this one gets me every time. It's about the one that got away, and 10 years later she's gone, but he had a dream about her. It always reminds me of my first love. Robert asks, "Did you ever really need someone...need em bad." He knows.

Whenever I'm trying out a new guitar, the intro chords and riff is one thing I always play. Page originally wrote this thinking it was going to be an instrumental, with all the layered guitar sounds, but then Robert Plant came back with these lyrics, and Page was like, "OK, well then, guess we're doing it this way..." It's one of my very favorite LZ songs.

This is one of Page's guitar 'orchestra' songs, where he layered them one over the top of another. Another example would be Achilles Last Stand, which have guitars weaving in and out of one another. Physical Graffiti is probably my favorite Zeppelin album because of the scope and diversity of the music.
