For heavier Dokken try "Lightning Strikes Again", "Into the Fire", "Kiss of Death". Another really good song from them with that mysterious 80s feel and a killer intro is "Paris is Burning". They also did a cover of Emerson Lake and Palmer's "From the Beginning" that I think is fantastic. And as others have mentioned "Mr Scary" is George Lynch's famous solo...that you absolutely must react to.

Try listening to their albums from the mid to late 90's, I just cannot get on with those. Dysfunctional (1995), Shadowlife (1997) & Erase The Slate (1999). But they did release 3 great albums after those, Long Way Home (2002), Hell To Pay (2004) & Lightning Strikes Again (2008). Then they shit the bed again with Broken Bones (2012) I have only listened to this album on the day of purchase when released and have not touched it again. Their 80's albums are among my most played albums in my house, always listening to Under Lock And Key (1985).

As soon as I saw what you were reacting to today, my first thought was, "Someone tricked Jay into another power ballad when he thought he was going to get some rock." Others have mentioned several other Dokken songs to check out. "In my Dreams" has some amazing vocal harmonies. Their bass player, Jeff Pilson, could have been the lead singer. His backing vocals have always been a signature sound for Dokken, and it may show in this song more than any other. Another top choice would be "Heaven Sent" which contains an awesome guitar solo from a criminally underrated lead guitarist, George Lynch. It's loud and fast, and the licks he lays down as the song fades out are just as impressive.

About 20 years ago, I work in a high-end fashion store at the mall and on Sundays the manager let us bring in our own CDs to play in the store. So I made a mix that was random and I put songs from Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam to Zeppelin, Erik Satie, JS Bach and Aphex Twin. This song was on that CD and I had 2 separate young women ask me what this song is. I'll never forget that. It was awesome. This song is so damn good.

My uncle was a friend and roadie for Don dokken the singer. In his younger years my uncle was known for telling tall tales. Well one year him and his gf just up and moved to texas. A few years later they showed back up with a kid and lots of stories. My family thought it was more tall tales of him being a roadie for dokken meeting zz top, ozzy,Judas priest among many others. I never saw proof so i took it with grain of salt. My uncle was working at a local arena as guitar tech and head guy making sure everything technical for concerts was a ok. Well a few years later he left again. Went to texas. Came back minus a baby mama with his kid and an awesome harley. Plus a messed up foot from an accident. His health declined and when his son was like 8 he died. Me my brother my dad and my uncle started packing his stuff and I packed his room because my dad and uncle was a bit out of it aftermlising their brother. As I was loading up stuff i started coming across old instant camera photos of him with famous musicians and i start crying because i was only one that knew he was telling the truth the whole time. My cousin moved in with grandma his dad's stuff he wanted to keep he stored with me because he knew I wouldn't get rid ofnit. I was tasked by the family to hold it until cousin turns 18. 2 days after the funeral a guy calls my grandma's house and she answers. The guy was looking for my uncle and my grandma told him he passed away. The guy asked about my cousin by name. The guy said he's in town and wanted to see my uncle and this was contact number he gave. After the call my aunt asked who was that my grandma says some guy named Don was trying to get a hold of your brother. I was there that night hanging with my cousin. I was in my 30s at the time but I was trying to help then kid through. He was more a little bro than a cousin.he perked up and asked uncle Don called. Well 2 days later my grandma told me a bus pulled into their driveway. "Rural house long driveway." She said Don showed up to see my cousin and give condolences and to give my cousin his dad's let her jacket he left non the bus the year before. They gave it to my dad to hold on to.a year later I finally wanted to show my parents my uncle was telling the truth.I went got his photo album and started showing them all these personal pictures of my uncle with music stars.then a couple days later my dad told me there's lots of writing inside the jacket. I looked and about shit a brick.there's got to be at least 50 signatures of celebrity rockers in it. Ozzy, dokken, all 3 members of zz top, Phil anselmo, dimebag darrel, and many more. My dad just cried. I could look back and tell the rest the family he wasn't lying.

I haven't heard this Dokken song since the 1980s. Almost 4 decades! Where did the time go? Now that I'm watching your new reactions on a daily basis, I want to ask again that you play a Dave Clark Five hit. The Dave Clark Five were the first band to hit from England after the Beatles, in March 1964. The hits of the first album were: Glad all Over Bits and Pieces Do You Love Me Other hits were: Can't You See That She's Mine Because (my wife's favorite) Any Way You Want It Over and Over and many others. Mike Smith, the Keyboard player, really has one of the great gritty Rock and Roll voices. Dave Clark Five is the Drummer. DC5 hit before The Animals, The Kinks, Manfred Mann, the Who, and the Rolling Stones. Joan Jett, KISS, and Suzy Quattro covered their songs. They were the band Ed Sullivan had on his show the most, even more than the Beatles. Please give them a reaction just once.

Of course they have great songs that came later like "Dream Warriors" and "Kiss of Death". They also did a really cool acoustic thing when "Unplugged" was all the rage called "Dokken: One Live Night" - cool because while everyone else was "unplugged" George stayed plugged in the whole time Love you guys! George Lynch is highly underrated as a guitarist! These guys should be in the hall of fame if they aren’t in already!

George Lynch was one of the best guitarists in the 80s, and Dokken was one of my favorite bands. Into the Fire was one of my favorite songs, and if you want something heavier, check out Kiss of Death. Love you guys! Keep it up.

Mick Brown is a great drummer with a great sound. He is one of my favorites when it comes to sound. George Lynch was a 80s guitar hero so he over-shadowed everyone else back then. But, seeing them live and watching their documentary everytime I had a party, allowed me to appreciate Jeff Pilsen more and more. This band had greatness on every instrument and vocals. They were the best and one of the most under appreciated bands back then along with Tesla and White Lion.

Dokken is such an awesome band with so many terrific tunes of various styles! A real hard rocker of theirs that I’m sure you’ll both love (especially you, Jay!) is “Kiss of Death,” the lead track off their 1987 album Back for the Attack. Absolutely blistering guitar in that tune! I also recommend “Tooth and Nail,” the title track from their 1984 album of the same name, which was their second album. Very popular tune in concert and it kicks butt!

My favorite band. The best singer with Don Dokken and the best guitarist George Lynch. Plus, Mick Brown on drums/backing vocals and Jeff Pilson on bass, keys and backing vocals. Dokken was a MONSTER of a band.

George Lynch is a guitar god! Jay you will absolutely love his instrumental "Mr Scary" from the Back for the Attack album. He also builds his own guitars, they are gorgeous.

My favorite rock band as a kid! It is hard to pick a favorite song, but "Heaven Sent" is up there. Also, "The Hunter". The guitar work on the Back for the Attack album is epic, George Lynch was on absolute fire. I picked up a guitar for the first time in 1983 because of him.

Back in the 80's, the power ballad became the golden ticket for rock bands to score a platinum record (1 million copies sold in US)... and Dokken was 1 of the first 80's rock bands to use that trend in 1984 w/ 'Alone again' making their 2nd record 'Tooth and nail' a platinum hit. In 1985, u had Motley Crue scoring a hit ballad 'Home sweet home'... Scorpions had "Still loving you" in 1984... Journey scored a massive ballad hit 'Faithfully' in '84... And after that, bands would always include a power ballad to bring in the female fans to buy their albums and concert tickets... Poison had 'Every rose has its thorn' in 1988... Europe had 'Carrie' in 1986 and 'Open your heart' in 1988... Def Leppard had 'Love bites' in '88... Tesla had 'Love song' in 1989... Skid Row had "I Remember you" in 1989... Cinderella had "Nobody's fool" in '86 and "Don't know what you got (Til its gone)" in '88... Great White had 'Angel song' and 'Save your love'... Bon Jovi had "I'll be there for you" and "Dead or alive"... Guns n' Roses had 'Patience' in 1988... L.A. Guns had "The ballad of Jayne'... and so many others... Even Ozzy Osbourne had "So tired" in 1984 and "Mama I'm coming home" in 1991... Metallica had 'Nothing else matters' in 1991... Anthrax had 'Black lodge' in 1993... Testament had 'Return to serenity'... 'The Ballad'... etc.

Great tune!!!! One of my Dokken faves!!! You said you wanted to hear their harder side, something like Metallica. If that’s the case your next Dokken song has to be TOOTH AND NAIL!!!!!! One of the hardest, melodic songs you’ll ever hear with a killer guitar solo that goes on forever. After that I’d recommend IN MY DREAMS, JUST GOT LUCKY, KISS OF DEATH, IN TO THE FIRE, MAGIC MAN, and MR. SCARY (which is an instrumental. Enjoy!!!!!!

The 80's was the 70's hang-over...I know, I was there...lol...Dokken got noticed by mainstream radio back in the 80's due to "A Nightmare on Elm Street" those of us who knew Don Dokken before this period were thrilled to see this band become one of the first to attach a song to a movie, to radio air play...Rock ON!!

Dokken was one of my first hair bands I listened to. You guys should check out Dream Warriors by Dokken. One of their iconic songs associated with Freddy Krueger. Heaven Sent is darker than Alone Again. Burning like a flame is one of Dokken's upbeat singles, Mr Scary would blow your mind Jay. Mr Scary would be your heavy song Amber. The Hunter is a good song too. In my dreams is one their more power ballads. As well as Walk away. Breaking the Chains is pretty heavy. As well as Into the Fire.
