It's funny how AC/DC is considered an Aussie band, but only had 2 longtime members that were born here. Chris Slade and Phil Rudd. Ohwell, I still consider them all honourary Aussies.

Love the bagpipes. Grew up listening to the bagpipes, my dad was Scottish and immigrated to the United States with his parents when he was a youngster. We as kids were subjected (lol) to listening to the pipes and our lives were all the better for it. ❤️. Rock on!!!!!!!

I always liked bagpipes. But then, I didn't live with someone who played them. Lol Seriously, those things seem hard to play but when played well are awesome. My family roots are in Scotland which might explain why the bagpipes "speak" to me.

Hey guys I am from Melbourne Australia and I turn 60 this week. Back in about 1976 when I was 16 I was walking in the centre of Melbourne and heard this loud music coming from down the road. I walked towards it and it and there was ACDC playing on the back of a truck. I think you will find this was ACDC's first music video and their first hit track. Been an ACDC fan since then (about 45 years) I last saw them perform in Melbourne to a crowd of about 70,000 in 2009. They still got it. Their rock and roll is timeless.

One of the reasons this song works so well is that they are singing about their life. ACDC were no instant smash. In Australia in the early 70's, they played pretty much every night for years, getting fans one by one. Then over to the UK and did the same thing, and then over to the USA to do it all again for the third time. Every day often travelling hundreds of miles, every night putting on the same high energy show. The tightness and perfect timing was the result. Those early years meant that when they hit the big time in 1979/80, they were so well practiced that they could seem utterly out of control, but yet be in perfect unison.

@edwardpaulsen1074

Pffft!! Well of course not! Where would they find a singer with the same tonal qualities that could also play the bagpipes? Heck, just the bagpipes in general would be a difficult find, when that is the only song that really uses them, to go on a full tour! I have no doubt that there is a ton of respect for Bon Scott, but I would also say there are some logistical problems to bringing a set of pipers for just one song.

The legend is that they had the song rehearsed for recording when their producer, older brother of the Young's, commented that they should include bagpipes to instill their Scottish roots into the song. Bon said :"cool I used to be in a bagpipe band." Angus remembered seeing some used bagpipes at a pawn shop and went out and spent his last dollars to buy the pipes. The next day in the studio Angus presented them to Bon who queried "what is this?". Angus says:"you said you used to be in a bagpipe band." To which Bon replied "yeah, but I was the drummer"😏 Or something like that, but I always think of that and laugh when I hear this song. Awesome!!!

The school boy outfit was attributed to his sister she also apparently named the band they were talking about what to call the band and she saw it on the side of the soing machine and said what about AC/DC. She also said you look like a little boy upthere you should were a school boy uniform. Angus and Malcolm's brother and his old band mate were their producers. George Young and Harry Vanda were in aruably Australia's first international rock band the Easybeats and then became Australia's most successful Producers and Songwriters. George said to Bon the bagpipes would sound good in this Bon you were in a pipe band maybe you could play the Bagpipes in this. Bon didn't want to say he was a drummer so went down and bought a set of bagpipes and taught himself to play. Apparently it was hard to do live as the bagpipes have to be full of air and blow and sing was difficult and then the bag was full of air. Vanda and Young as wrote for the lead singer of their original band Stevie Wright and wrote all the Easybeats songs and Blackeyed Bruser, Guitar Band and the epic Evie 1,2 and 3 what a song. They also produced for The Angels, Ted Mulry Gang and Rose Tatoo to name a few. They also wrote for John Paul Young as well. When Malcolm passed Angus's eldest brother son Stevie play's rhythm guitar for them now. What a truly talented family. RIP Malcolm.

You need to listen to Let there be rock with Bon Scott and see how young Angus was and so full of energy. Studio version or live version but it has to have Bon Scott

This is an Australian anthem. It's so true about the entertainment business in all aspects. Probably even more nowadays. A brilliant song.

I think 1976 is when that came out . Bon Scott learned to play the bagpipes for that song

That was Bagpipes. Paul McCartney uses Bagpipes in one of his songs with his band Wings called "Mull Of Kintyre". Check that one out. It's really nice.

Bon Scott was in a pipe and drum band when he was young so he could see (or hear) how to make the pipes work in the song.

ACDC and INXS originally had their members both from Perth/Fremantle and made it big. Try this band called The Angels and they did a cover of "we gotta Get Out of this place!!!" it is a great power house rock track with a PUMPING BEAT......and horns :)

Angus. Every boys dream. To run away from school and join a rock n roll band. :) ...He's also the coolest skinny little white guy ever.

Watch any AC/DC song on the video concert live from Buenos Aires Argentina. It’s cool to see 80,000 people all head banging in n unison. I thought the stadium was going to collapse
