I was a Met Police Officer. After his death, I checked in on his parents a number of times and stood in their lounge chatting and making sure the press were not harassing them. They lived in a simple terraced house in Feltham. Lovely, humble couple. His funeral was to be held at a secret location. We spent the night duty plotting where occupied cars were knowing they would be the press with the intention of following the parents car to the secret location. When it came time for the parents to be taken to the funeral, we had vehicles parked up at key junctions. As the parents car passed those junctions, one of our vehicles blocked other vehicles to stop the press following. I'm proud to say I was one of them. They also had a police escort to the edge of our area where another car would take over True story with no embellishment or exaggeration.

Fat Bottomed Girls was released as a double A-side along with Bicycle Race. The lyrics of the song contain the text line “Get on your bikes and ride”, a clear reference to the other A-side. Bicycle Race has the text “Fat bottomed girls, they'll be riding today, so look out for those beauties, oh yeah” which refers back again.

Your baby is so lucky. My mom told me she put headphones on her belly when she was pregnant with me. That might have something to with my vocal talent. Unfortunately I'm not very good at the guitar because I inherited Dupuytren's contracture from my dad. It limits my endurance for tasks that require a strong grip or manual dexterity. If I practice basic chords on the guitar for an hour or so my left hand is going to cramp up. I've been thinking about learning how to play a theremin because you don't even have to touch it to play it. You change the pitch and volume just by waving your hands around it. The Beach Boys used one on Good Vibrations.

Brian May wrote this song. I feel compelled to give him a shout out as I’ve noticed ever since the movie, the other three members of Queen have been practically marginalized. Fat-bottom girls do indeed make the rockin' world go 'round! This was basically the equivalent of "Baby Got Back" for its time, only this is a better song (I like BGB, but it's nothing compared to this classic). Love this song, and loved Amber's reaction! Thank you for bringing this one back! My recommendation is going to be Freddie Mercury's version of "The Great Pretender" (yes, Freddie, not Queen; it was from one of his solo albums). If I had know you were going to be paying tribute to Freddie all day today, I would have recommended this weeks ago so it could have been included.

Contrary to popular belief he was not gay, he was bi-sexual and lived life to the most, enjoyed everything, men, women, drugs, drink, music, parties. He squeezed 10 lifetimes into one short one, there will never be another Freddy ever again, he was a trend setter in every sense of the word, an icon, a legend and the greatest frontman of all time for one of the greatest bands of all time. Love love love Queen, grew up to to my parents listening to them, I'm 440 now. I was 9 when he died and I cried.. took too young from an illness that was a result of his lifestyle. That's not me criticising, so little was known about HIV at the time and I wouldn't change a thing about his life apart from the one interaction that cost him his life. I'm glad to see your reaction to his onstage presence. In my opinion (others may disagree but), he is the greatest front man to ever set foot on stage. He could take an audience that was just "kinda there" and, by his movement and vocal inflection, carry them on his shoulders until they were flying high on the music just like him. No drugs, no alcohol on stage (many people mistook his honey-lemon tea that he drank to soothe his throat to be able to continue belting it out as him drinking beer.) He may have partied hard off stage, but on performance days he insisted that they all be sober for the show. After that they could go wild, but never on stage. Talk about professionalism in an industry that fully expected the band to be under the influence 24/7. Wow. I really, really admire his performance, personality and work ethic. It's so rare for them to "put the music and the fans first" that you really have to give him props. I may have my problems understanding parts of his personal life, but that doesn't influence my opinion of him, his artistry and pure musical genius. No judgment on ANYONE, I just am so straight that I have never been able to understand how a man can look at another man and think about them in romantic or sexual terms. That's not me saying that it's wrong... only that I honestly don't understand how it works so please don't bash me. I have many gay friends (male and female) and they are some of the best humans I have ever met. In fact, my friend Jim is godfather to my son so please... don't even try to hit me with that "homophobia" crap. Just because you are friends with someone doesn't mean you automatically understand them and their motivations. I have been dealing with judgment and racism my whole life (My father was Native American and my mother Caucasian. Us kids were never fully accepted by either side, let alone the community at large) so I refuse to judge people by appearances, but wait to find the content of their character. (MLK was a very wise man)

This song brought new and added meaning to the 60s/70s phrase "You can't boogie without bottom." Originally referring to a good bass line and solid drum beat - this works - too.

Oh the memories with this song! The first time I left it dialed up on the 8-track when my mom got in the car, rocking down the road singing along, the result from letting my young children listen to it on the way to church, the look on my preacher son’s face when he realized his sisters who all under 5 knew all the words,

Roger Taylor (drummer) has such an incredible voice. Queen was able to do so much more because of Roger’s voice. He is one of the main reasons their harmonies were so good. If you ever get a chance, their are Queen videos that isolate his voice. It’s incredible.

Fat Bottomed Girls is like a Southern Rock song, and it shows just how broad their reach was in trying different kinds of music. Bohemian Rhapsody is like a classical ensemble one could expect from Bach or Beethoven, then morphs into a modern full out rock song. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is a Rockabilly styled song from the 50's era. They really reached out to about every kind of music genre for their music. Incidentally Amber, you're really pretty when you have your hair down. Wear it like this more. I tell the same thing to my wife too.

Forty-five years ago I worked in a bicycle shop part-time, and we were always playing whatever was popular, especially Queen, while assembling bikes in the back shop. We displayed the inner sleeve of the album, a photo of naked "fat-bottomed" women riding away on bicycles. Good music to assemble bicycles to, and an inspiration for group of young bicycle crazed guys looking forward to what we might view on our next ride. Still riding 70+ miles in a week in my sixties and enjoying the view.
