This song's proceeds were all donated to an AIDS charity. We were losing people left and right with no hope in sight to this disease. Then this song comes out and just makes you weep and gives some kind of hope. It was pretty incredible.

Return customers are the best customers, that's why there is no cure. The catholic church was able to cure black plague 200 years ago before anyone even knew what a germ or virus was but it didn't pay as good as someone who spends $200 a month to treat symptoms of their disease.

The AIDS epidemic was completely overblown. They were scaring people into thinking it was going to explode and start decimating the population, but that was based on the false narrative that it was a disease that would spread easily throughout the entire population. It's a disease that still to this day only affects gay men and drug users sharing needles.

In addition to what everyone else is saying, I think you should know that this song was done as a fundraiser/public awareness campaign for HIV/AIDS (esp. in the Black community). Dionne Warwick spearheaded the effort and, perhaps most amazingly, this was in 1985 when the stigma against advocacy for people with HIV/AIDS was HUGE. Dionne, Stevie, Gladys & Elton all took a substantial risk to their careers when they did this song together; whatever else anyone says about those four incredible artists, they covered themselves in glory with this. P.S. You must, must, must react to Gladys Knight & The Pips - when it comes to vocals she's in the same lofty tier as Aretha Franklin.

Seconding the recommendation to do Dionne Warwick's "Heartbreaker" which was written for her by the Bee Gees. Also worth nothing that a ton of the hit songs that the Bee Gees wrote for others, they also did recordings of themselves, so I highly recommend checking out their versions. You listened to Celine Dion a while back and she has a song written by them "Immortality" with them providing backup. As for Gladys, she's simply amazing and all of her songs are great, but I highly recommend "Midnight Train to Georgia" which is one of her biggest and I think also counts as a storytelling song. Seriously though, you can't go wrong with Gladys.

I love Dion Warwick singing this Bee Gee tune that they wrote, it's crazy because Robin was actually really upset that Barry decided that this song would be a definite hit, but he knew that choosing Dion Warwick to sing and record it...That she was perfect to sing this awesome song...Dion you sound absolutely fabulous singing this Bee Gees song, but you my beautiful lady made it your own. 💚💛🧡❤️

you need to put that in all caps - that it was written by the BEE GEES. You know if Jay sees that he'll jump right on it!!! 😁

Dionne is Whitney's first cousin . Dionne's mother Lee and Whitney's mother Cissy were sisters. Lee was the oldest daughter in the family and Cissy was the last child born in the family.

Stacey is correct they are first cousins through their mother’s. You can definitely see the family resemblance. I’m sure that’s why Jay thinks she looks familiar. Her and Whitney could pass for sisters despite the age difference (23 years). They Both have very beautiful and striking features.

@@cptneedham So much talent in that family, Cissy and Dionne's mother are also first cousins to opera singer Leontyne Price.

What I love is seeing how appreciative you both are of what for you are older songs. For those of us who grew up with these songs, these singers, it was great. Especially during the ‘80’s our performers did a lot of large charity events, Live Aid, Farm Aid, USA for Africa, Band Aid “We Are the World”. We didn’t know it at the time but we were part of a great music history.

You were right: That was Gladys Knight, appearing with the others for a superstar performance billed as "Dionne and Friends." Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight have some of the best voices ever, fantastic, unique voices, and Stevie is a fantastic multi-instrumentalist. This was the biggest hit of 1985 in the US and, I just found out, also a cover! It was recorded twice before in previous years as far back as 1978, including once by Rod Stewart, but this was the only one that became a hit.
