Yes, this song/video was for AIDS, right DURING the height of the epidemic, when there was no hope, and when homophonia was around😮 and when AIDS victims (most of whom were Gay men) didn't have any family or any friends left when they were dying. This song was written by two legends - Carol Bayer Sager & Burt Bacharach. This was put together to raise money for AIDS, which at the time was a serious problem in 1985 and was not being funded or taken as seriously as it needed to be by the government. Elizabeth Taylor, who was active in promoting awareness of this disease helped to put these artists together, who at the time were in their prime. In regards to Gregory Abbott, he is an amazing singer and that song - "Shake You Down" is amazing.

The original was Dionne alone (she is related (aunt I think) to Whitney Houston. You mentioned that you looked at Elton John as a great songwriter. He is actually part of one of the most amazing and successful collaborations. Bernie Taupin would write WORDS with no music and send them to Elton who would then write the music.

Elton is a great writer, but most of his hits were written by Bernie Taupin. I'd recommend the movie Rocket Man, it tells the story of Bernie and Elton's relationship.
