That is the case for almost every Pink Floyd song. Nick Mason is, imo, one of the Top 3 rock drummers of all time. If you had just an above average drummer, these songs would just be "meh"... That being said, everyone who ever worked on a Pink Floyd song is simply AMAZING. I love thousands of songs, but Pink Floyd is just on another level...

It makes me a bit sad that this is Amber's favorite band, yet she really hasn't experienced them the way they are meant to be. Not as singles, but whole albums in a sitting. More than most other bands you really need this to fully experience Pink Floyd. One Day they will either do whole album reactions (or bigger chunks) or she will have reacted to enough solo songs to listen to a whole album on her own, and then she will TRULY fully know what she has been missing. We can keep mentioning this, but it won't make sense until they do this.

@krkhns

@@williamosborne6866 There are actually two bass parts - one is Fender Precision (Waters) the other a Fender Fretless (Gilmour). The Fretless is the bass you hear at the very beginning. Waters wasn't able to hit the right cent range without the frets. Gilmour had to. Same thing happened on One of These Days. Problem with that one is Waters received an award for it because he was the only listed bass player. Any fretless parts were played by Gilmour. It like the acoustic on this song - unless you know how Gilmour screwed up when he strung his guitar you will have a very hard time replicating the sound.

David Gilmour was singing at the beginning. Waters sang the "It was only fantasy" part and the ending bit. Gilmour is the one with the mellow voice. I remember when I heard this the first time over winter break from college in 1979. The album had just come out and I was with an herbally enhanced group of friends. 43 years later, Hey You and Comfortably Numb still are my favorite Floyd songs. I recommend listening to the entire album without interruption, and watching the movie.

This is one of the most mysterious songs on " The Wall". It describes someone who is longing for interaction but comes up against the wall that keeps people out. He seems to encounter people who are disappointing, rebellious teens breaking bottles etc. A song of longing for companionship. There are many,many songs I could suggest, but some that I feel you NEED are "Comfortably Numb, 1994 Pulse concert version which is light years above the album version you've heard, "Run like Hell" from the same concert, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", the album version is musically better, but the Pulse version would not disappoint, and "When the Tigers Broke Free" if you want your heart strings tugged on a little. They will continue to not know, because they don't care. They don't really read comments. "Drop down in the comments and let us know" is a scam. Fake interest. Exploiting the bands and suckering us.

I love the fretless bass guitar on this song. It's what adds that erie feeling combined with the synthesizer on the high level, then of course David Gilmore on lead guitar playing those notes you didn't know you needed to hear....

Listen to all their albums truly. From beginning to end. They’re all concept albums really, each telling a full story. I love every stage in the evolution of the entity, that is Pink Floyd. Through the different band member lineups, changes in sound, various content of depth and intellect over the decades. Pink Floyd- an otherworldly blip in time.

This whole album (and the movie) was a staple for me in my teens. This is beautiful and my faves are "Comfortably Numb" and "Run Like Hell". I love seeing you guys get teleported when listening to good music - it's so satisfying, like your channels. The reason why yours are the best is that you take time to analyze and dissect different components - whether music or movies. Bravo - Darlings!

We saw Roger Waters in Toronto last July (for our 40th wedding anniversary), it was incredible! The music is as relevant today as it was when we first heard it. After a lifetime we still stop to listen to the lyrics and let the music take us on a journey. Have PF music on repeat, it’ll get deeper and more meaningful every time.

I was at that concert last summer too! Great concert, and I was so relieved that Waters didn't have an opening act. And I loved the second half after the show, when he did huge chunks of "The Wall," "Animals," and "Dark Side of the Moon."

Honestly one of my favorite songs from my absolute favorite album composed by humans…. Other people will tell you to, but listen to this whole album in one sitting one day. The story of the album is so well executed, this is the beginning of the second half where the main character has completed his mental wall to protect himself. He realizes the loneliness crushing in around him since he’s had to isolate himself in order to feel safe and tries to reach out, but as the song says, “..it was only a fantasy… the wall was too high, as you can see…”

Most Pink Floyd songs are delightfully crafted and this more than most. The drums, the little piano rolls and of course Gilmour's screaming guitar. Love the reaction to the lyrics. It is a song about loneliness. Together we stand and divided to fall. Perfect. Amber don't apologize, any music that provokes some deep thinking and a emotional reactions is a gift.

A lot of Pink Floyd's songs have lyrics that are for Syd, founding member and signer/songwriter. Any lyrics that deal with schizophrenia or paranoia are their way of letting him know they still think of him and care.

So when i was in high school, this was my go to album, specifically from this song to comfortably numb. The reason was because I had it on vinyl and the first side of the second disc was this tune to comfortably numb at least. It's amazing. Also if you listen to it in one go, all the background radio chatter matters too!!

I was a 19 year old guitar playin" kid when I first saw Pink Floyd in 1971 in a gymnasium at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. Pink Floyd in a GYM!!! They were awesome then and became one of the most influential bands in my lifetime. My band in 1977 used to cover Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Brick in the Wall and the crowd was never disappointed. Amber, watching you react to these tunes warms this old heart on a daily basis. You are an old, wise soul and a very special lady. Jay...I say this with all due respect. I love you both. Never stop and always stay groovy! Peace and love to my family here. God bless.

Oh man, The Wall is one of the pinnacles of music in the 20th century, amazing on so many levels. They were so very masterful at telling stories of real lives and real struggles, often times drawn from their original lead singer who went crazy. I'm so glad you seem to appreciate it and connect to these musicians. If you want a deep dive video option, check out Roger Waters's solo version of Pink Floyd's song "Dogs" performed live (its like 20 minutes long). Waters and Gilmore don't like each other much anymore, they split one album after 'The Wall' but they kept on performing Pink Floy tunes even to this day. "Dogs" by Waters is outstanding. Gilmore's solo Pink Floyd work is stunning as well.
