I'm 40, and videos like these make me feel old, but comments like these make me feel young. I think listening to (and maybe making) good music can keep old folks young and alive, and gives young people more wisdom than a lot of the old, too. Amazing that this music can still unite us. Man... 40 is a particularly hard age to watch John Lennon at, though. Am I at peace with what I've done with those 40 years?

I was in my late teens when this song came out. I was, like so many teens, convinced that my views were correct and set in stone. I hated this song! I thought it was sacrilegious, unpatriotic, etc. Oh my!!! Now, at 73, with life experience, a much larger world view, and a better understanding of gray areas and nuances...I love this song. It's brilliant and I could listen to it over and over. Am I sad that none of the sentiments expressed have, for the most part, become reality? And that John was murdered by a mad man? Yes. But the song still fills me with hope and joy. "You may think I'm a dreamer..."

Mary, I was 14 when this song came out. We had a "hippy" nun at my school, Sister Paulette, who was into Simon and Garfunkel, etc. I think she first got me thinking about lyrics in a serious way. Oddly, this particular song never made it into her repertoire. I think this song was my first real introduction to a more worldly and non-sectarian outlook about "peace and love."

The guy had a hard childhood and a lot of built up anger, during his youth and up until his early 30s Lennon was a total jerk but when he came back to Yoko in the mid 70's after his "long weekend" in L.A. (which was actually a couple of years of separation for the two) he had kicked his heroin addiction and really softened up and became dedicated to taking care of Sean and reconnecting with Julian. In response to your question about their relationship (her name is Yoko Ono). No, he was married to Cynthia and had a son, Julian. Yoko stalked him in the late 60s standing at the end of his drive. He happened to attend a gallery where her art was showing, he became intrigued by 'this strange woman' and then it went from there, leaving his son and wife. She pretty much took over his life and became a major influence on him. They even had a break for a year in the 1970s, where she paired him up with her secretary May Pang with whom he had a close relationship for a year. The relationship then resumed and they had a son (Sean). John was shot in December 1980 as he and Yoko returned from the recording studio in Manhattan late one evening, by a guy who claimed to be a fan and earlier asked John to autograph some records. The saddest thing is he'd just completed his album (Double Fantasy) and was about to start performing again, was back in touch with his old Beatle bandmates, and planning a return trip to the UK to visit relations and family. I remember the day well, as I was a student in college. We were all very shocked, upset, and angry about it. The nation wept at the untimely passing of John Lennon.

I'm 43 and I was raised on The Beatles and came to really love them on my own in my early teens. To this day they are my favorite band and John Lennon is my very favorite voice. My 11 year old has really started to discover them over the past year and a half. It's amazing to see just how timeless their music really is. 60 years later and kids are still finding them relevant.

I've been a lifelong Metalhead, but I've always had a soft spot for this song. It's beautiful sounding, the piano is somehow haunting yet joyful, and the lyrics.. he's basically just saying 'imagine if all the things that divide us weren't there', in a wa;y that's simultaneously poetic yet easy to understand. Simple AND powerful. As well, it's not a huge long ballad like some might have made for a topic like this, he doesn't repeat himself or drag it out.. it's short, sweet, and to the point.

This is fast becoming one of my favorite channels. Lennon was a man before his time and this is his ode to peace and unity and how the common man is hungry for it. You would need a heart of stone not to be moved or touched by this song. BUT, can we just talk about Jay and Amber? What great, beautiful souls these people are. I know they are in to it when Amber is swaying with closed eyes and Jay is rocking out the beat with his head. The world needs more Lennons...and Jay and Ambers. As Lennon would have said, Love and peace. x .

Yes, you'll love that song, with 'Woman' John encapsulated his love for Yoko, but it also has a universal message of appreciation for all women. 'Woman' was always planned to be the second single off (what was his last recorded album) 'Double fantasy', sadly the song was released posthumously, after John's murder. The added tragedy is John was probably the most settled and happy he'd been in his whole life, and I think he would have continued to be a successful solo performer. He had plans to do a world tour the following year, and was looking forward to meeting up again with old friends and family back in the UK. It's very likely he would eventually have collaborated again with each member of The Beatles, even if not necessarily all together as a full band. Such an enormous loss of a great talent.

I don’t know if anyone already suggested “Whatever Gets You Through The Night.” Elton John stoped in while John was recording the song and offered to add keyboards and backing vocals. He then said that the song would go to number one. John didn’t think so and Elton offered a bet saying that if it did go to number one, John would have to sing a few songs with him onstage. It did and John performed with Elton at Madison square Garden on Thanksgiving in 1974. He was very nervous not having been onstage in years. The place exploded, as expected.

The most tragic and sad part is that in 1975 Lennon took a break for 5 years to "bake bread" and came back in 1980 with the smash hit album Double Fantasy but was murdered right after. He was on his way to even greater heights than you could imagine, especially considering his previous work and that he was a BEATLE!

Yoko Ono is an avant-garde artist from Japan. They met at one of her exhibitions at a gallery called Indica Gallery. One of her pieces was a framed picture with a collection of random words that was hung from the ceiling. It had a magnifying glass hangin from it and little stepladder and the idea was to find a random word and that was supposed to to guide you in some way. When John went he grabbed the magnifying glass and his word said YES. So with that positivity in mind, he decided to see the rest of the show and that’s where they met.
