She's not the greatest singer, but she can carry a tune vocally when she wants to, and she's quite an accomplished pianist, having been raised by a banker and former classical pianist descended from the Yasuda samurai clan. The screeching that she became infamous for is not singing. It's primal scream therapy that she attempted to turn into avant-garde performance art. As far as her record sales are concerned, she has charted 12 number one singles on the US dance charts and has been named the 11th most successful dance club artist of all time by Billboard Magazine.

I came in contact with Yoko through a scholarship fundraiser in Ann Arbor, Michigan 11 years ago. We organized a concert with a lineup of local musicians covering Beatles and Lennon solos on John's birthday. She heard about it and donated $10,000. Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary of the John Sinclair Freedom Rally, a benefit concert held at Crisler Arena, University of Michigan's basketball venue, featuring Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, John and Yoko, and others, to raise money for John Sinclair's legal defense. Sinclair is a local anti-war activist and poet from Ann Arbor who was busted in an undercover sting operation for giving away a couple of joints to an undercover officer and sent to prison for 10 years. Three days after the rally, the Supreme Court of Michigan decided that 10 years for such a minor crime was unconstitutional and commuted his sentence.

@@shellyjones9833 I've been a friend of John Sinclair's for more than 20 years. We see each other every year at Hash Bash in Ann Arbor. In another case unrelated to his pot bust, he was charged by the federal government with conspiracy for allegedly plotting to plant explosives in a CIA office in Ann Arbor. The US Supreme Court threw that case out because the FBI didn't get a warrant for the wiretap. That case turned out to be just another nail in the coffin of the Nixon Administration. Next April John Sinclair will be doing a live internet stream from the building he was accused of plotting to blow up, which is now a marijuana dispensary.

@willdwyer6782
@willdwyer6782 2 жыл бұрын
Idealism is never unrealistic. In times of political turmoil it's often the only hope for progress. Why do you think it's usually the outspoken idealists who are violently silenced? I wasn't born yet when JFK was killed, and I was in diapers when RFK and Dr King were killed. John Lennon died about two months before my 13th birthday and I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I got the news he was dead. It was late in the fourth quarter of the Monday Night football game between the dolphins and the Patriots with the score tied at 13. Howard Cosell announced the death of John Lennon while Patriots kicker John Smith was setting up for the game-winning field goal with three seconds left on the clock.

@@willdwyer6782 it is unrealistic bro. From everything that I've seen about those two, they were Always setting a High bar. Those things were never going to be accomplished but that was the part that was idealistic. Idealism is almost always unrealistic but that is because they put that bar so high trauma that when going for the moon might end up being a blender and come up short, it affects a few people. So I understand where you're coming from and I understand where other person's come from time immemorial. This is because realistically the majority of humans would like to see a Utopia or perfect world. The problem is having intentions but then not enough people follow through and it's a repeated episode throughout time. There was Jesus and people before him all the way up to Mohandas K Gandhi that were dreamers and made a difference but not a huge difference because look how these people died. There's never going to be a Utopia on Earth. That's not being pessimistic but rather just being a realist. Human nature will always push some people towards taking advantage of the ones that are striving for a utopian society. Is in our very DNA should do this. I wasn't around back when John and Yoko were doing their thing but I've looked at old videos on KZbin where John and Yoko Ono we're doing some odd things in hopes of creating a mass peace movement. The 60s was not a mass peace movement. From everything I've ever read about the 1960s, the majority of people were not like these "flower children happy. " like John and Yoko just hanging out in bed with hopes it was going to create a massive peace movement in the world. The song Imagine is a perfect example of John Lennon wanting to see something change throughout Humanity, but realizing it wasn't going to change to the masses but only a select few here and there. I don't think the flower children from the 60s accomplished much of anything just like I don't think antifer accomplishes anything. Both of our children were so happy because they were probably tripping on acid and smoking weed as they where you're just hanging and chilling

My favorite story from John is when he met Yoko. He came to her art gallery show, and one exhibit was a tall ladder reaching up to the ceiling, with the obvious expectation to climb it, and to read what was written on a small note attached to the ceiling. John expected to see something cynical, and was ready to goof on it, until he read that it simply said "Yes." That captured him.

Actually Yoko was not a bad singer. She was into "avant garde" art and did some "weird" stuff (for example-"Don't Worry Kyoko.Mummy's Only Looking For A Hand In The Snow." But the flip side of "Happy Christmas",I believe, was a song called "Listen. The Snow is Falling." Her voice is very pleasant and the song is beautiful.

A catchy little tune for sure, but have you actually paid attention to the lyrics. Both the Globalizers and Marxist use the song as an Anthum. The answer no, I can't imagine: No Heaven, No Hell, No Countries, No Religion and No Possessions. I've always been a Beatles and Lennon fan, but this is would make Carl Marx just plain giddy.

Got My Mind Set On You is a cover of a 1962 song recorded by James Ray, who died of an overdose less than a year after he recorded it at the age of 22. George heard it for the first time shopping in a record store while he was in the Chicago area visiting his oldest sister about 5 months before the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. The Beatles started covering other tunes by James Ray in concert after Paul got turned on to his music in one of Brian Epstein's record stores. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2KoZ6usgpyDm6M

I read the full article of the very last interview John Lennon did with a reporter from Rolling Stone just 3 days before he died. John was doing the interview to promote the album John and Yoko had recorded together, the first new music John had made in 5 years. They had waited 10 years for Sean's birth, so when they finally had a successful birth, they both wanted to concentrate on being a family and being there for Sean. I'm glad they had those years to be parents together before John's tragic murder!

That was indeed Yoko Ono singing with John, and The Harlem Boys Choir sang the background “War Is over, if you want it”! What does that mean: "war is over if you want it?" I was a little too young to "get" this song when I first heard it. I thoughts wars "just happened." There are times of peace, and there are wartimes. That's history class for you. But the song's meaning is very clear: war doesn't "just happen, human beings make it happen." The message here is that we all have it within ourselves to choose peace. And what better time to remind us of this than at Christmas? But the song also poses a challenge: Do you want the war to be over? Well, what are you doing about it, as we enter a new year? If you want it, you have the power to make change happen. Thank you for acknowledging the anniversary of John's tragic death. You two are hippies at heart, and I love it.

I was 15 years old when John Lennon got shot. It was a few weeks before Christmas and this song got played a lot. Something you may or may not realize you do this bridge the gap between cultures and generations. We all grow up in our cultural bubbles of the type of music we listen to sometimes never hearing outside of that bubble. In this immediate gratification no attention span world we live in where people may hear a snippet of a song and dismiss it. You are sitting down and taking the time for yourselves and the people out here in KZbin land to actually listen to the song to find its beauty Instead of dismissing something quickly you may have heard in the background on the radio. There are many songs I’ve had to listen to many times for it to grow on but then I love it. On a separate note for us old heads, or at least me, it always seems surprising when people don’t know who certain people are in a video. The people in this video are all huge musicians. George Harrison from the Beatles who started this group, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne from ELO, and the fifth Wilbury who was not in this video because he passed away shortly before Roy Orbison. What was put in this video was a very poignant shot of the chair rocking with Roy Orbison’s guitar in it. I would love to meet you guys and sit down and just talk and play music for a couple days. Keep doing what you are doing! Peace!
